Rick's First Generation sells a rear speaker grille that's a perfect knockoff of the original, but needs to be painted to match color of package tray (eg semi-gloss black for black package tray).

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Thats the one for 67-68..uses a chrome Phillips head screw as well. All factory units were installed painted interior color/specificly rear package tray color. All dealer installed units were left painted a light gray color...

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Thanks guys! Does anyone know if any of the audio systems from 1967 actually received 2 year speakers from the factory?

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Both 8-trk or Multiplex used two rear....AM-FM used the single dash speaker unless the rear fader was ordered as an option...That then means factory RPO U80 or Dealer option...Either way without the Multiplex or the 8-trk all you could have is one rear speaker.....Confused yet?

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

No factory multiplexes in 67 Camaros. Only way to get two rear speakers in a 67 from the factory is via an 8 track. You could get a single rear speaker for either an AM or mono AM/FM radio via RPO U80 "Auxiliary speaker"

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Correct.....So if I carry it a step further then..... A 67 Multiplex (dealer installed) would use two gray speaker grills.I have yet to see a dealer installed rear speaker painted to match the interior color...At least on cars with real paperwork to back the option.

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Thanks again guys. I have the code on my trim tag for the rear speaker, so I know there was at least one when new. However, there are two there now, so I don't know if one was added or ???? The original radio is gone and I have yet to take a hard look at the wiring etc. to see if there are any clues there as to what was original equipment.

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Check the front kick panels for wires or speakers...a must for stereo installation....FYI..you still used the center dash speaker for a mono radio even with 8-trk....

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

What kind of radio mast? Assuming it would still be original a single piece mast is an AM/FM, collapsable mast or a rear mounted mast indicates an AM radio. If your trim tag is coded for the U80 speaker, then an 8 track is out of the running since the U80 option was part of the 8 track package (at least in 69) and your trim tag would be coded 2U for the 8 track instead of 2R for the aux speaker and you would have 4 speakers in the car, not 2.

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

5 speakers with the 8-trk..4 w/o the radio option (just 8-trk.only)..At least in 68.Unless it has the AM/FM multiplex w/8-trk.Then 4 speakers....Very rare set up..Very Rare..

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Thanks Mark. I'll have to look at the mast as it is in the trunk, but I think it was collapsable??? It was located on the front fender. Definitely has the 2R code, so I guess no 8 track...no speakers in kick panels (but some lovely speaker holes cut in my mint deluxe door panels https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif) I guess it's looking like an AM radio with rear speaker. Does anyone have good pics of both the am and am/fm masts that they could post please? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

[/ QUOTE ] If you had gauges and the tape deck is on the console, where would the controls for the multiplex go? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

my guess is the the console would consist of (from front to back): gauges, shifter, flush-mounted multiplex dials (4), forward-facing 8-track.

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Good question...I've never personally seen that set up. Only have the schematic in the 68 Delco Service manual..part number 7305211..The multiplex unit is like the std. four knob underdash setup like 67.Not the 68 console type. It would mount under the glove box area...My 68 has the AM/FM mono with the 8-Trk....I've done some research on 68's.....

Not nearly enough room for that Denis....It would have to be under the glove box( I have a tissue dispenser there in the pic).See attachment...

Steve, Thats soo cool! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif My 68 has the am/fm mono with the 8-track stereo combo too! very rare to have both options. mine is in a vert. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Wouldn't have multiplex controls in a 67.

In 68 (and 69) a multiplex AM/FM with an 8 track used a different model 8 track that took the output from the multiplexor and passed it thru the 8 track player and then out to the speakers, instead of sending the signals back to the radio. This setup used the 4 knobs on the 8 track to control the tome, balance and fade features of the multiplex. The flush mounted knobs in the console compartment cover were used with the AM/FM multiplex alone.

68l30 08-05-2006 05:44 AM

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Correct.there are two different players for the different set ups.# 7305206 for the tape player,#7305211 for the mutiplex 8-trk.....and 7305221 is the multiplex unit for the 8-trk combo....follow? Does # 7305221 have the 4 knobs as well ? I've never seen one.......Only the Special 8-trk player 7305211....

Remember, the radio and the 8-trk were always seperate units. It actualy works backwards from the way you would imagine. The 8-trk player controls the power for the radio.Put in a tape and the radio is killed dead by the power feed supplied from the 8-trk.Two seperate wire harness are used also....radio.. front center speaker and left rear...8-trk..used all four corner speakers and not the center dash. Five speakers unless you had the AM-FM multiplex...no center dash speaker...Again all 68 info here.

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Ok.I answered my own question...The AM-FM multiplexor in use with the 8-trk # 7305221 did not have any knobs. It took the place of the std convector (heat sink) mounted behind the dash.So ...it would not mount under the glove box but behind the dash out of site. And yes,the knobs on the 8-trk control the multiplex function......Sorry...It's been awhile since I studied this P.I.T A set up.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif

I thought hte multplex controls were integral to the forward facing 8-Track ( in '68 anyway ).

In '67 I think this was only offered in a mono sytem ?

also some 8AM/FM 8-Tracks used a radio tape switch when installed @ the dealership ( I think ).

this one is on e-bay right now - not mine :

here's a NOS 8-Track with the radio tape switch in the same auction

NOS : ebay 8-track w/ radio-tape switch

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

SQUID...That one is not NOS. Read the description and it says for parts only. You are thinking NOS because you see a box but the box is not even mentioned. It also does not show the remote amp-heat sink thingy that I can't think of the name of.

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Just posted a pic of the remote amp-heat sink thingy. The 8 track is not nos but the switch and the remote amp-heat sink thingy looks to be nos. The pad on the 8 track is in mint all original condition.

Re: '67 Camaro Factory Rear Speaker pic???

Well there is a lot of differnt opinions on what is right for these systems. However, When I reinstalled the am fm multiplex
in my 68 Camaro it was not so easy to get it right. I read the production manual and studied the drawing on where the multiplex was installed.and it shows the exact bracket that was used. It was a bitch to install the unit up on top of the steering columb. It has a special bracket that bolts onto the sheet metal up there. I was lucky to find the orig holes that
were intalled at the factory or I would of never been able to guess that is where it was installed.Beleive me it was a bitch
to do. The easy part was installing the controlls in the glove box
as the orig holes were there. I was extreamly lucky that the orig
council was still on the car.
