1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
My buddy is finally finished with the ground up restoration of his Original 1963 Z11 Impala. This is the original Jack May car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
http://www.angelfire.com/extreme4/hanksz11page/ He fired it up for me Saturday, this car is truely badass. He plans to make a few shows around the country this summer with it. Pictures don't do this rare piece of GM history justice... http://michiganclassics.com/misc/z11_rt.jpg |

Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
The car looks fantastic. I seen the finished chassis at the 409 Nats in Kansas City and have been following the website restoration for some time now. White and red interior with the chrome reversal wheels look absolutly stunning! I've always considered the 1963 Z-11 Impala as Chevrolets maximum effort drag racing package above everything else.

Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
Hank has restored a couple of 63 409 cars in the past, but this one is the best by far. Must be the heritage https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

Over Anxious,
Awesome piece of machinery! Thanks for directing us to the pix. Mind if I ask you what tires he is running on the rear? Size/manufacturer. Thanks |
Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
No idea on the specs. I know that no detail was overlooked on this project.

Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
Joe,
Any details on how the car was found and/or the lineage traced? The car looks great. |
Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
Wow... nothing beats original racers!
Question: What is the difference between a 409 motor and Z11 motor? |
Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
I'm very glad to see Hank got the car done. I knew it was close! I also saw the great chassis at KC and spent time with Hank.

Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
Everything except block, cam, carbs, distributor, distributor drive shaft, timing gear set, exhaust manifolds, and some bearings and bolts. And that's just the engine. It was stroked to 427cid.
(it was NOT the "mystery motor" that apppeared at Daytona in Feb. '63). The Z-11 was done under Duntov's watch. The MK-II mystery motor was entirely Dick Keinath's endeavour under wraps of upper management. I can't wait to see Hank's finished result... Verne Here's the original car: http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...rantz/tn-7.jpg Notice how the front fenders are brighter than the rest of the car. They weren't primed. Just paint over shinny aluminum. |
Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
Three words: Oh my goodness!!! What a car!!!

Re: 1963 Z11 Impala FINISHED!
Paging BOB G.........
Why not ask Hank to bring it to SCR9????????? Between that car and one of Don Fezell's, those early "muscle barges" should be well represented!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif |
