correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
I've heard gloss, semi-gloss https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif Which is correct and does anybody have a paint code for it?
Thanks |
Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
I do own a 70 L-78 Camaro with mostly original paint. Car needs resto and eventually will get FULL everything.
I've been following the above subject with much interest for years. I've never read, seen or heard of an accurate paint company code for the tailpanel black. After seeing BKH's Yenko that went to Charley I could SEE how Glossy they were. Most people go way too flat versus, a quite glossy semi-gloss. There was also a low milage original paint Garnet Red 69 L-78 at Carlisle (yr ??) owned by Jeff Boone from PA. Hopefully readers here can attest to its gloss.... See my 70 L-78 Tailpanel below, and look in corner around license plate for gloss!!! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...panelBlack.jpg |

I will have my original paint 69L34 at the Camaro National @ Carlisle in the Y building with the Vintage Certified cars. You are welcome to inspect the tail panel.

Steve,
Mind if I take a small paint scraping ( sample ) for color testing? It's an old car! Who cares!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Steve |
Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
Just wondering out loud: can you use the same paint analzyer that they scan your car's paint with, on a photo of the car's paint? hmmmm https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
It has enough scratches over the years. Looking forward to seeing you, and hoping my car answers some of your questions. I know we have been trying to get together for over four years. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
I painted my 70 camaro about 70-80% glossy . I think it's very close.

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
I am wondering just how much waxing and polishing contributes to the glossiness of the tailpanel?? Especially if you use a rotary buffer or a coarse polish/wax.
I am not so sure it is suppose to be a gloss color. I think it's along the same lines as the rocker panel black out. Rick H. |

All righty then, all we need is someone to post two pictures of their original blacked out tail panel. One showing the back and one showing under any spot not covered by wax, polish, etc.. Anyone, Buehler, Buehler, anyone? Rick H. |
Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
Can somebody find Rick the previous thread so we don't have to go through this again?

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
This subject has been discussed at length and basically we all seem to agree to disagree to a point. That is why I invite anyone going to Carlisle this month to look at my car and form their own oppinion. Where is Brian when you need him ... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
That is an awesome car. Who owns that now?

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
After much consideration and debate, I believe the tail panels were in fact painted glossy black....Are you happy now BKH! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
Have an original paint 70 SS396 L-78 here that belongs to Nils Julin who's on this site, its absolutely Gloss Black. Jim https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif

Re: correct color of a '70 B.B. Camaro tail panel?
I'm happy. Hey Steve, what about the Rally Sport headlight door blackout. Is that the next debate?....BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Hey Brian, you and Joe made my day with that little tidbit. Nothing like learning how things were done at the factory by careful examination of these survivor cars.
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif I am working on the smog brackets with and without holes now. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/blush.gif |
