Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
Great pic....so cool any of these old plant pictures! .
I always remember that '65 era shot of I think the A.O. Smith plant....it's of a winter day w/ snow blowing and new Corvette bodies waiting peacefuly on train cars for shipment to St. Louis assembly and exciting 'lives' of their own? . I think it was published in some old Vette mags maybe Noland Adams books....anyone have this or other cool shots to share? . ~ Pete |

Hey Bruce.........I've got it figured out don't I?? |
Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
Neat pictures Verne. Anyone else notice how scratched up the rear frame crossmember is on the '66 Impala? Neat photos however.

Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
hey is that a elec fan on the wagon rad ???? never seen that before..
|
Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
Hey Bud, it looks like the shroud is just laying on the fan and clutch with the radiator hoses waiting to be mated up to the radiator thats in the car body.

Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
Wow, these are great Vern....more, more! . I noticed the same scratches Rick....better keep a picture to replicate exactly and show the judges? .
The wagon sure looks loaded w/ woodgrain, Mk1V and C60....the fan I don't know either? . I love the body drop guide rods and how the workers have the mount-biscuits over them and ready....while another Mk1V looks over the one guys shoulder. . Quite the uniforms....must've been casual Friday? . The guy in the Hawaiian shirt is wondering if anyone will ever notice he used an I instead of a 1 on the engine gang stamp during his morning shift in engine assembly? . Is the line equipment Chevy Orange?? . ~ Pete |

Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
OK, I'll try to dig up some more. I was wondering how many would notice the MKIV that was next to have a body dropped on it. Painted exhaust manifolds and all..... Did anyone notice the little sticker on the rear brake drum? That's a 2 letter code (in red) for the axle designation, so the workers knew which one to pull from the pallets. (they were always on the right drum only)And notice the altitude of the car behind the wagon. These are the pictures that matter the most if someone is trying to perform an historically accurate restoration. Afterall, that's what restoration is supposed to be, right?............... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
Oh, and I apologize to Bruce (and everybody). I attached the original size photos by mistake instead of the thumbnails I made at 600x600. (I'm a dummy) Verne |
Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
Check out the overspray on the Mark IV exhaust manifolds behind Hawaii 5-0.

Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
OK, I'm going to sneak up on these next ones. They're kind of in order of assembly. This shows a '66 Leaving Fisher Body. It drops through the hole in the floor and meets the Chevrolet assembly line.

Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
Now it comes down to the Chevrolet Trim line where more equipment is installed to complete the body. Sub-components arrive with build sheets attached, then thrown away (most of them https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif) http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...eringChevy.jpg
Notice there is no gas tank yet, and although it doesn't show, there is no jack or spare in the trunk yet, the lights haven't been checked, etc, etc. Notice that the body cradles are the same ones that will finally rest the body on it's chassis. (those Chevy orange ones!) |

Did anyone notice the little sticker on the rear brake drum? (they were always on the right drum only) [/ QUOTE ] Likewise the frame decal is always mounted on the drivers side of the frame and likely for the same reason. The reason it is likely on the drivers side is according to several photos I have seen, the frames came down the line upside down until just before the engine/trans were installed so the decal would be on the same side of the line when upside down. |
Re: 67 Van Nuys Assembly Line pic
Yes Rick,
Here's the turn-over with the rear axle assy ready under it. (no sticker visable on the drum, but a large one on top of the axle housing) This may be '59. Notice the pile of lower control arms on the floor! http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...meFliprear.jpg And while the frame was upside down, it was marked with the VIN derivitive with crayon. This is a '63. http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j3...Nonframe63.jpg |
