What do you think about this 69 RS?

I just did "BIN" on this car. The seller has contacted me and wants to give me money to go away as he says there was another party who believed that he had made a deal outside of ebay to buy the car and he feels bad about it. Regardless of whether or not you believe that story I now have a decision to make. Please let me know your opinions on the originality and collectabilty of this car. Thanks!

I like it, to bad the deal will sour someone but if your locked in fly out inspect/pay for it and store it somewhere and have the car shiped home.

someone must live around there that can lock it up for you for a week until Fred can grab it.

I like the car as well. I posted about this car to discuss the DX1 hood stripes. Seller never explains which wheels come with car (i.e. dog dishes or ralley's) which were original to car. It is amazing to me what prices are for these cars.

I really like it too....it's a sweetheart! . I remember looking at this a few days back and loved the shot w/ the steel wheels and doggers. . Looks super clean and hugger too....you're the winner, don't let it get away! .

Like the undercarriage of this ride. Nice original patina. Your mission is to make him "feel bad" about this situation to the OTHER guy who supposedly cut a deal outside of ebay. The scales are tipped ever so slightly in your favor. Now massage it to an overwhelming victory! Good luck. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Take no chances in delay of getting your deposit to this guy or mess up on any of the auction conditions. . Looking at his history he appears to be an vintage tractor guy so hopefully a good ol' boy? . I see a Z10 car in his history too. . Good luck....this thing looks beter the more you look at it! .

As soon as the seller receives the deposit, request a bill of sale, with both of your signatures included. Pay the remaining balance, and bring that baby home. Good Luck! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

The seller probably wants you to offer him more money over and above the BIN price. I'll bet a higher offer from you would turn him right around and cure his bad feelings and possible seller's remorse. I wonder if your taking of the BIN price caused him to think that it may have been too low and now he's shuffling around in the dirt with his hands in his pockets trying to get more money for the car. Makes you wonder if there's really another buyer.

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

Well I told him that I wanted to buy the car as agreed through ebay. He was perfectly fine with that. The "other" party was a dealer or at least wheeler/dealer in NY. Deposit is on the way and I am going to go get it myself. Fred was booked up and didn't know when he could get it so its time for a road trip! The more I looked at the car I realized I didn't want to let go of it for a few bucks. Except for the hood and maybe the spoilers it is so original! Not to many around like it these days. And to someone who asked, it comes with both sets of wheels and tires. The dog dish and Good Year bias are whats going to be on the car as soon as it gets home. I will sell the rallys and redlines as they do nothing for me. Thank you very much for all your advice and opinions!

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

I don't know about you guys but the older I get the more and more I appreciate the truely original cars.
That thing is beautiful, you couldn't replace it for the BIN price... it would be hard to replace it with a resotred one for that price and it is an original paint car that looks to be almost perfect.
Can't wait to see more pictures....

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

It is home. It is a very awesome car. So clean and untouched. A/C will freeze you out, runs and drives like new (a new 4 wheel drum brake 327/210 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif ) Even still has the spiral shocks. The dog dish caps and steel wheels are back on the car and the original flat hood with original paint and stripes is on its way here from a previous owner and will hopefully be on the car shortly. I will post some pics when it's done. Thanks for all your input.

Dropped tank down, nothing but a few paper scraps. A previous owner found a folder under the back seat with some papers in it. He can't remember what was in it but he knows where it is at and is mailing it to me. Hopefully something cool in it. We will see.

CA car from Nov. '68 to sometime in 2003 when original owner passed and a dealer bought it at an estate sale. It is near impossible to find a car like this these days..

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

Congrats on car. Great color combo, DX1 stripes, all original. The all original part is the best part knowing that nothing has been screwed with over the years creating problem after problem. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif Remind us what you got this car for, was it $28k+/-?

I also love the A/C being in the deep south. Enjoy and do one of these https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Did you get any paperwork/folder from the previous owner yet?

DWCamaro69 06-03-2006 08:16 PM

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

A few receipts or some kind of papers a previous owner found under the seat were supposed to be in the box with the hood but I never found them https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif I guess they fell out in transit as he said he just slipped them into the ouside box at the last minute. I am pretty bummed about that! Interior:

Cool car guy had it for sale for a long time don't know why?
He tried to trade it to me back many months ago on a 396/350 RS/SS.
Good luck with it!

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

Yes, the previous owner that was in OH had it for sale for some time and on ebay. I don't think it sold very quickly because he was pretty firm on $38,500. A little high for this car at that time I guess. I didn't pay anywhere near that.

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

I need some opinions on whether or not to detail the engine compartment. It is untouched but not as "pretty" as the rest of the car. Some people who have not seen what a 37 year old untouched engine compartment should look like think that it doesn't look like a 27K original mile car, especially when the interior, exterior and undercarriage are so nice. Even though not pretty this is the best engine compartment I have seen on a low mile car. Some people don't understand what 37 years does regardless of miles! Anyway my question is the car more collectable with the engine compartment left along or cleaned/painted up? Thanks!

Clean it and put a light coat of WD-40 under there and wipe of the excesss. They are original only once. m

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

I had the same dilemma when I purchased our Chevelle. Only 20K miles, but the engine compartment looked pretty crappy....and it did not have the benefit of being a California car. It had been driven (albeit sparingly) for several years in Northern IL, year-round, and then had 29 years of less-than-ideal storage conditions https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif . But once you start, where do you stop? Get the engine compartment looking spiffy and then all of a sudden the chassis doesn't look so good any more. Do that, and then you start 'finding' all sorts of flaws in the paint, and on and on it goes. Like others have said, do a little gentle cleaning, drive it and enjoy it.

ORIGLS6 09-25-2006 05:56 PM

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

Agreed! I have an unrestored '69 Nova and did the cleaning and WD40 trick to it. Lots of other products out there to help with the detailing as well. (Simple Green, Castrol Super Clean, etc. .....and the old stand-by; kerosene.) I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with the results.

Don't over-do it; just clean her up and enjoy it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

I agree that when you start the detail job you are not going to be satisfied till you have gone from the front to the rear... now as far as the minor surface rust goes.... try this... www.safestrustremover.com
then hit it with cosmoline or boeshield.

DWCamaro69 09-26-2006 06:47 PM

Re: What do you think about this 69 RS?

That rust remover looks cool. Fortunatly not much in the way of surface rust in there, just dirt and missing paint. You did an amazing job of cleaning your Tuxedo RSZ up! Thanks all for the advice!
