1969 Yenko Nova
I sure everyone knows thos car but a guy I dont know to well came by my shop today and told me he found some pictures of his buddys car when he bought it new and thought I might want to see them. He said the weather was cold out when he took them and the car had around 500 miles on it. His friends last name was Earnspiker and he ran slicks on the rear most of the time and drove it like he was at the track most of the time. Kinda cool and thought you might like the picks.

Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
Correct Kevin, the car sold new at VV Cooke and Mitch and I had a conversation about the car only a few days ago and he liked the photos also. Suprising how many VV Cooke hi po cars are still around here that are unfound or say un known about by the plubic.

I posted them before, but will try them again. The car was found out behind a body shop! |

Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
Anyone notice the SS badging in Marlin's pics?
I remember studying these photos with Marlin at past SCRs and wondering what was up with the tail pan SS being mounted high and off to the left. Note the rear shot, even with the sun glaring badly you can positively identify an SS badge high and to the left. I've always figured Yenko must have utilized one of the existing holes that were cast into the rear trim panel for the original SS badge, and simply relocated the original SS up and to the left and added his own 427 or Yenko crest emblem down and to the right, much like he did on the 69 Camaro tail pans. Now if the info regarding the first set of pics is correct, and that they were actually taken very early in the car's life, then my emblem theory may be shot as the SS is absent from the grille, likely as it left Yenko in Canonsburg. I believe the info about the pics to be correct as the original inspection sticker can be seen in the 1st set of pics placed in the middle of the windshield Kentucky style, while later on it is on the driver's side corner corresponding with it's time spent in Indiana. Perhaps the owner decided to add the SS badge back to the grille, since it was an SS just with a Yenko added 427. It's just interesting to me that it's definitely different in the 2 sets of pics. Wonder what the tailpan treatment was originally, did Yenko move the SS but keep it like that? Seems like it would be an awful lot of work to drill off a riveted SS emblem only to replace it in a different location. Looks like small 6 cyliner type marker bezels with Yenko's own 427s on the fenders, but also looks like the 427s are above the marker lights not in front which would leave exposed holes where the 396 marker bezels came off. I'm betting the car had no SS markings when it left Yenko, except for maybe the steering wheel. Any thoughts? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
I always thought that the original owner resided over the border from Louisville in Indiana, and that the car migrated back to Kentucky later in life where it was eventually discovered behind the body shop. Regardless as to the order of ownership, we might not be able to determine how it left Yenko - so many things happened to these cars on Day2! I was actually trying to determine if the wheels in my pics could be the Cragars that are on the car in the other pics https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Unfortunately, the Indiana owner is deceased, but his widow was kind enough to submit the photos. |
Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
Supercar_Kid;
I zoomed in on the the first two pics and it looks like the 427 is in front of the bezel. Would love to have 1200 dpi scan of the original pics to tell for sure. |
Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
The fellow who brought the pictures by for me to see said his frind bought the car new and they lived in Louisville at the time. I think the SS grille emblem was put on at a later date by another owner.
|
Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
I bet the rear SS emblem that can be seen in Marlin's pics was added by another owner too.. Probably at the same time the grill SS emblem was added.

Those are definetly not L60's on that car. [/ QUOTE ]I think it's safe to say they're plenty bigger than the E70 14"s it would have worn out of Willow Run. I was just pointing out that they're obviously greatly oversized and not something Yenko would have likely installed and sold new like that. It was probably delivered with XTs like most 69 sYc Novas and had Cragars and bigger tires added on day 2 by the owner. I'd bet it had shock extenders in front and air shocks in the rear to get it sitting like that too. |
Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
Agreed!
They might be L60-14's, but not 15's as I had a set of 15's on my first Nova - had to jack the rear end up pretty tall to keep the lips from cutting into the tires https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif |

Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
Not sure those are L60's they look like radials, but a lot depends on backspacing - or rolling the lip https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I'll try to dig up a pic of my first Nova with the L60-15's, they were really square and made a major racket when the lips came down on them.
One night while racing 5 wide on the Roosevelt Blvd in Philadelphia, I hit a low spot on the road. The lip came down, sliced the bulge of the sidewall, and left a strip rubber dangling off of the tire. That stupid strip flailed around and slapped rubber streaks all over my new cortez silver paint job https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/mad.gif Then again, I could have stopped https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif |
Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
My brother-in-law had '69 Z. I remember helping him "roll the lip" so we could put a set of Mickey Thompson L-60s on it.

Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
I thought SC Kid was talking about the FRONT of the car. It is higher than the rear.

Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
I don't know...they could have been smaller (Thanks SC69Sam https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif) I just may be old. I DO know that I rolled the lip due to tire interference, though.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: 1969 Yenko Nova
I ran L60 15 corvette ralleys on the back of my sf deuce before I put on the Fentons. Delco air shocks, with the H block extension on the top of the shock. Goodyear polyglass L60 15s. It would only rub a little if you hit a bad bump. Never rolled the lip.
