Got it! The Z28 I wanted in high school.

Well finally, with some great help from people on this site, I got a new toy to play with. No its not a 69 or a 701/2..............its an 80
For those who have seen my previous posts, I found one that was nice.
The story- I decided to take 1 of my high $ Mopars off the table. For me, it made sense, even though i feel i will never get the return on my money that this car would have continued to appreciate. But, it ends up paying for at least 4 of my other very fun and collectible cars.
The car i sold, i listed here at one point.........1971 Plymouth cuda 440-6, shaker 4 spd, super track pack etc etc.
Very original, 26k miles and matching everything. documented with a perfect broadcast sheet.

The car i bought?
Well first let me explain that i am soon to be 40 and when I was 17 and my Volare was on its last legs, I wanted to buy a car.I had worked since the 7th grade and had saved some dough. My dad said NO. He would only buy one for me.........not a bad deal...........but it put the choice in his hands. His salesman's wife had an 80 Camaro with a V6 and an automatic and now it was mine. I loved the car, put BFGs on it, a sunroof and, a killer stereo (my Dad was the midwest rep for Pioneer https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif) I drove it senior year and all 4 years of college. I finnally sold it and my college acquired 71 Lemans sport convertible, to finance my 88 Mustang GT convertible when i was 23.
But..........what i really wanted when i was given the car was a 4spd Z28. Soooooooo I have taken my revenge.

With some help from Rich N.(not P) on this site and ebay I purchased a 1980 Z28. 4spd 350, 26k original miles, 80% orignal paint, all original interior and original and matching #s throughout. I would consider the car a survivor! This car has been babied its whole life. The car was ordered new in CA. however that limited you to a 305 and an automatic so the orignal owner ( I am the 3rd) had it delivered in Meford Oregon to get the the 350 and the 4 spd. I have the original order sheet and as luck would have it, while the seller was looking for a lost cell phone, he tore half of the build sheet out from under the front seats springs leaving the other half for me to retrievehttps://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif

I will have bruce post a couple of shots.

Great Story... I will one day have the Camaro that I really wanted when I was in High School... 1988 IROC 1LE... I probably should go ahead and buy one... they are really inexpensive right now.

Great story... inspiring for all in search of that high school cruiser! It seems to me those late 70s-early 80s Fbodies are becoming rather popular in this crowd. I think they make wonderful cruisers and low mile original cruisers are still available ala this post. Good luck and post some pictures please!

Congrats and good luck with your dream car. I was searching for the build sheet for my sons 81 z yesterday and located it under the drivers seat. I need to remove the seat to get it out without ripping it.

Nice! All I can think of when I see a late 70's early 80's Z28 is Fast Times at Ridgemont High! "I can fix it, my dad has an awesome set of tools". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Steve and anyone else interested,

I found 2 build sheets in my 81 Z/28. One was under the drivers seat and I can see another under the gas tank. Still there because I don't want to ruin it.

Put some older rallys and BFG's on it to see how it looks. Rides nice.

I just snapped a few interior shots, I have been driving it so it needs some vacuuming.
Some interesting options on the car is it is an AC delete car and one of only 307 of the 152,000 80 camaros built that had the "new digital radio"
Aftermarket in there now, original radio snug in a box https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

Bob, Those shots are actually in Mt Prospect (home of the blues brothers cop car) at my buddys house on my way to the GTO club meeting this weekend. However it is architechurally similar to Mark's block. In Park Ridge, we live about a mile apart.

John,
What do you mean by A/C delete? Is that shown on your build sheet as a deletion? I thought A/C wasw an option. My car is also a 4 speed car and has no A/C either.
Part of my build sheet is missing so I would like to see yours if possible.

Nice car. Interior looks famliar.

Rick, you are probably right about the AC, I was told it was AC delete but he probably meant it did not have it.
When I get the rest of the build sheet and piece it back together I will share it with you.
How about some details on your car?

JOHN

Re: Got it! The Z28 I wanted in high school.

John,
That would be great if I could check out your build sheet, thanks.

My car? Mine is the 305 with the 4 speed. Only engine available in 1981 with the 4 speed. In the USA that is. You could get the 350 but it only came with the automatic.

In Canada you could get 350 with the 4 speed. My car came with the computer system but was removed by the previous owner. Has the 3:42 posi rear which is pretty stout for my neck of the woods. Don't have to shift down when going up hills.

The motor was rebuilt before I got it and although it runs strong it still needs a little extra. I might put it back to original. Not sure yet.

The car is extremely solid and has 76,000 miles on it. The repaint from the previous owner is not that great and it's headed to the paint shop next month to get repaint and the stripes put on. I have the original white rally's and a set of N90 rally's like yours which will be going on after repaint.

The car is a blast to drive. These cars are on the rise and becoming very popular. I only wish my 70 Z was in the same condition as this 81.

Good luck with your car and have fun with it. Got any engine shots??

Hey John, I just did the same...Back in 1978 I bought a brand new 1978 Z/28, 4 speed in Dark Blue Green Metallic. After 2 years of searching I just found one and are waiting for delivery.

Awesome!! I have been enjoying mine alot. While its not that fast, the 4 spd still makes it fun to drive.

Great Looking car.
I too am looking for an original 1980 Z28 loaded with T-tops and 4 speed.
It is what I started to order but couldn't afford back in 1980.

Looks nice. See if you can come by Lombard on any Saturday night during car season, it's a pretty nice gathering.

I would like to hit Lombard. My problem is the cars are in Lake Geneva and i am usually with them on weekends. I will have my Hemicuda in town for a show in Park Ridge a weekend in June. I'll see if i can blast out there that weekend. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
