'69 Z, Sorriest thing I've seen this month
 

I was following the car below on my way home from work today. The condition of the car kinda turned my stomach, but my curiosity got the best of me so I talked to the owner. Turns out he is the 3rd owner, has owned the car 32 yrs. Original block is long gone but he has all the heads, intake and carb on a 350 block in the car. He also has a DZ block in a shed in his back yard, I couldn't get a good photo, but it has the Tonawanda stamp and a partial vin. I can get the numbers off it, would be interesting to see if the car it came out of is back on the road somewhere. I also need to get a good pic of the cowl tag. The owner is looking for a quick-ratio steering box for the car, so I told him I would let him know if I hear of one. I asked him if he would be interested in selling the car, 10 bonus points to whoever is first with his answer.

well he is at least still enjoying it and actually keeping it going...now go oil up the cyl walls and decks on that DZ block so it dont go to heck sitting.

Personally, I think its kinda cool that he's motoring around Florida in a ragged-out Hugger Orange 69 Z... You never see stuff like that up here anymore. In PA all our cars are either restored or sitting out in a field left for dead.

I agree, at least it is still driving around some. Shame it's sitting outside, guess most of the damage is already done though.

You are the winner. He plans on restoring it someday when he gets all the parts, $$, and time to do it. I did offer to help him on his parts quest since he only lives about 1/2 mile from me and I'd like to see it actually get started, though I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Yes, and try to image the hundreds, if not thousands of '69 Z's that have already gone to the crusher over the past 37 years. Just look at that "patina."

By the looks of those hoses it looks like the car has had the very rare "heater delete" option installed at one time.
Who needs a heater in Florida!

I love it. The musclecar answer to the RAT ROD. Dollars to donuts he will never restore it. Every car I see on the road up here that needs work is getting restored down the road, or I am saving it for my son, or grandson yada,yada,yada! Too much money to restore. If it is a Tonawanda engine, then it isnt a real DZ engine. They were all produced at the Flint engine plant.

I didn't get a good look at the stamp pad. I stand corrected on the tonawanda issue, not a Z-28 expert by any means. It was getting dark, too much junk in his shed and needed a wire brush. I did make out the DZ and it's been sitting there long before anyone thought about restamping anything. I will get back over there and take a good picture of both the eng stamp and the cowl tag when I get a chance.

Pray that he doesn't try to go over a set of RR tracks at speed. Rusty Camaros have been known to break in 2 when the body bolts rust out. So True.
In 1979,a friend finished a quickie resto on his 69 SS/RS Camaro in his garage.He totally ignored his rotted trunk floor,thinking it wasn't an issue.
On it's debut,he drove by our Auto shop class & went over a speed bump at speed,when BAM!...the trunk floor broke loose w/the gas tank falling down.
I can still hear our shop teacher laughing.
