Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
I'm driving from Chicago to Charlotte on Friday and am thinking of going to Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum in Tennessee on the way. Has anyone else been there and is it worth a visit?
thanks, Jim |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Yes. It's only about 10 miles off I-40. But, depending on traffic, it could take 30 to 45 minutes to get there. There are usually about 90 to 100 cars there. Floyd owns about 8 or 10 of the cars. The rest are on loan to the museum. There are some rare cars there including a 69 Yenko Camaro, L-89 Chevelle, Dodge Daytonas, Super Duty Pontiacs and a few Hemi cars. Well worth the trip.

Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
It is about 8 miles from my house. I could go once a month. Floyd is a great guy, and there most of the time. Let me know if you do stop, maybe we could do it together, then do lunch. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Bill,
I haven't decided exactly when I'm leaving yet, but would like to get together. Will let you know later this week. Jim |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Jim,
Be sure to take lots of pictures...especially of the Monaco Orange 69 SS Post Sedan Chevelle. Dan. |

Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Jim.....as has been said, the visit is well worth your time and Floyd really is a down to earth guy. If hes there, coax him into talking about the times that he raced in the ARCA series. He was using Richard Childress engines and thats how he met Dale Earnhardt Sr whom he has great respect for. This is the main reason that my Earnhardt Intimidator Camaro is there - Floyd's friendship with and respect for Dale Sr.
Although Floyd cut his teeth on vintage muscle cars, hes no stranger to modern muscle. By now, he should have his 06 Z06 Vette. If you're a Chevy guy, you'll enjoy the Chevy muscle motors on stands along one wall. All the great ones are there. Floyds website: www.musclecarmuseum.com |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
I stopped there in 2001 with my 1969 L78 Camaro convertible and Floyd came out and spent time looking at the car, we then spent hours after museum closing just looking at his Chevelle project and all the cars in the museum. He is really a nice guy, got a great picture of him and I in front of the Camaro. |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
We were there two weekends ago. I wouldn't make a 12 hour trip just to see it, but it's well worth stopping in there on your way. A very wide variety of cool rare cars.

Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Hi Warren,
Would that be the maroon car? I really like that car. |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
I go whenever I go up to Pigeon Forge for the fall rod run. If you like Pontiacs, he has a large Super Duty collection from 59 to 63. He also had a 69 Kingswood Estate with the L72 427. Nice cars!

Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Floyd is a super nice guy and the museum is really fun. Ive been restoring a 68 Camaro, Corvette Bronze, and Floyd happens to have a very nice one in there. I ask him if I could "cross the rope" to take some close up pics of a few items on the car to help me. He took me out there and said he appreciated me asking because some people do just that without asking. Well worth the few minutes out of the way in my opinion. Kevin

I've admired that car since the first time I saw it. My 68 RS/Z28 is Vette Bronze from the factory - a much over-looked color - and is refreshing to see among all the red, blue and white cars. Good luck with yours. |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Great to meet you there yesterday Jim.
As usual, great collection of cars, and nice to hook up with a fellow yenko.net member. Hopefully Jim will post up the pictures of the yenko, 2 ZL1s, motion and berger cars that are on the floor at the moment. |

my 1969 L78 Camaro convertible [/ QUOTE ] Which one would that be? |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
The Yenko was a yellow camaro, owned by the same guy a long time. I am sure several know the car and owner, I just can not remember the name on the marque. One of the 69 ZL1s was #25. It had N50s on the back, cool. It did have headers though, some of you purists would have not liked that. LOL

Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Phil,
Yes, that was the burgundy car I took to Floyds. I will have to find the picture and mail it to you. |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Stefano,
This was my Burgundy M20, 3:55 ratio ragtop with white standard interior, black top, that I purchased from Charley several years back. This car was featured in several magazines, both covers and centerspreads, as well as printed in 9 hardbound automotive books in full color. It even was used for a MuscleCar trading card. This car was a VanNuys built car and the original chassis broadcast sheet and original dealer sales invoice was with the car. The dealership is still in business at the same location today, and the parts manager there now was also there when this car was ordered and delivered. Dealership is Parker Robb Chevrolet on North Main street, Walnut Creek, Ca. |
Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Thanks for the info. I am aware of that documented L78. I have the magazine it was featured in as well as the trading card.

Re: Floyd Garrett's Muscle Car Museum
Floyd's a really nice guy.
He attended ACES Chevell-Abration w/us in 1999. He brought a few of his cars there, but it was his lawnchair that got everyones attention. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...floydG0001.jpg |
