1970 Camaro Rear Bumper Guard

I'm in need of the two bolts and washers that hold the bottom of the bumper guards to the rear end panel on my '70 Z28. Thanks.

This is one thats done wrong a lot, the bolts look way to small for the brackets. S B C are the originals on my car, not sure how correct you want to be.

www.amkproducts.com has similar if not the same 1/4"X 1" Bolt. I have seen a different head marking than Jack's above picture....so long as some G.M. headmark would be OK!
WELLNUT is/was brand of Valance nut of which AMK has on page 70 of catalog, but not sure if O.E.M. Washer useage appears to have been improvised at factory, as not captured or anything special

No self tapping bolts used, rear valance has a 1/4-20 (coarse) Nutsert on my car. I have seen cars with and without a black plastic or hard rubber washer against the paint. Unsure about this detail but no self tappers I'm quite positive.

Re: 1970 Camaro Rear Bumper Guard

So what do ya do, drill the valance? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif It looks like you can't get a nut behind the panel.(talk about a nut behind the wheel) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif I was told by a guy that ownes a few second gen cars that he uses self tapping. No wonder every other '70 or second gen Camaro has no rear bumper brackets... I really don't want in to be a mickey mouse deal. What a pain in the backside this has become. Thanks for the comments guys. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

I believe on the assembly line the workers would mark and drill the rear valence with a 33/64" drill (Slightly larger than 1/2") and then slip in the Wellnut rubber thread inserts. The nutserts have a bronze 1/4UNC thread insert molded inside and are shouldered. Once the bolt is inserted and tightened, the rubber swells outward, locking inself to the valence. Great for those blind holes where no wrench can go....

Re: 1970 Camaro Rear Bumper Guard

Previous post absolutely correct.......rubber wellnuts/nutserts inserted into large holes, about 1/2". I went and looked at an untouched car today, pulled off 1 gaurd to look and there it was. Car I looked at is of no question, orig paint, orig owner, never apart. And before anybody asks.............no it's not.

They are simular to the radiator nut inserts located on the core support of 1967-69 Camaros. They are located on the drivers side.

I'll have to check to see if they are the same size. If so they are available and would be a perfect substitution.

Re: 1970 Camaro Rear Bumper Guard

I believe rad attachment is 5/16, gaurds are 1/4-20. Same type harware but not correct thread size.

Re: 1970 Camaro Rear Bumper Guard

The ones I ordered from Modern Chevrolet for the core support, to mount the radiator on the drivers side, were 1/4-20. They may be the same for the guards.
