documented 1970 1/2 Camaro Z28 C.O.P.O is great condition all numbers match and the interior is original too. The documents include a window sticker, broadcast sheet, Chevrolet delivery card, original owners disclosure of loan statement, Combined Note & Security Areement , payment card(51.98 a month) and loan depoit slip, original dealer invoice, Protect-o-Plate, dealer important paper holder with owner manual, this car has the COPO code 9796AA on both the broadcast sheet and the window sticker, I have never seen a car in this condition with this much documentation, is a pure Z28,Rockcrusher 4 speed, and that's about it, e-mail me for some photos. Chris,

Nice car. Another 9796 was just picked up quietly by another SYC member. The most refined of the '70 design by far and the spoilers really worked well to keep the car planted at high speed.

What is the build date on your car?

06-B is a good date, and fits the production date time period nicely.

If you can post up some pictures of your car right here!

Gotta plead ignorance here, being a Chevelle guy. What did this COPO package consist of?

Re: approx Value? 1970 Z28 COPO 9796

1970 CAMARO COPO 9796

As the 1969 ZL-1 option was pushed through as a COPO to get around the approval laden RPO system, in order to dominate Drag racing, the Special Race spoiler package for the 1970 Camaro was designed to allow Chevrolet to continue to dominate the SCCA Trans-AM race series.

Vince Piggins was involved from the start.

After testing of the 1970 Camaro SCCA race cars with the standard issue “short” RPO D-80 spoiler tests showed significant Lift at the rear of the Camaro at speeds in excess of 120MPH.

Piggins got permission to "Borrow" the Firebird center section and had AO-Smith Corp tool up the individualized end caps. The result was significant.

With the short spoiler there was 112 pounds of lift. With the new COPO 9796 High spoiler at the rear there was 168 pounds of down force-a critical 280 pound difference in a Camaro equipped for Trans-AM- A significant improvement for the Camaro in the areas of stability and cornering traction at speed.

In order to comply with SCCA Race rules a limited number of these cars were built in late April 1970, and starting in June - also included the front spoiler as part of this package.

did it start out with just the tall rear spoiler and the front was added later? I thought I read that some where too.

I think this car is from Florida.

I'm curious why you would post inquiring as to value when you just bought the car. If you were going to flip it I assume you would of had a good idea of it's value when you bought it. That being the case, I presume your keeping it so who cares what it's worth as long as you like it?

btw, looks like a very nice car to me. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I bought the car because I thought it was a good price and was hoping to see what the experts thought as far as a value goes would be nice to know, because if someone were to offer me great money for the car I would like to know what the market value is today, also would be nice to know how much to insure it for thanks,in response to "who cares" I guess since I asked the question I would be the one who cares, sorry, is that not a polite question?

I have a Forest Green/saddle no console M22 non COPO bought new in AZ by a GM Proving Ground employee. I bought it in 1977 for $1350 out of the AZ Republic newspaper.

I changed the color to black in the 80's as I could not find a factory black car to buy and wanted a black car.

I have seen VERY few of this color that are still that color today. Yours is probably due to the green interior ...

Nice car, interesting to see a deluxe interior in a no console car

Black was not a factory option color in 1970 on the Camaro so if your car is a 1970 Z/28 the only way you could get a black car was by ordering special paint or like you did, paint it yourself.

You'll find very few special paint cars.

Re: approx Value? 1970 Z28 COPO 9796

I had the exact same car except it was originally citrus green repainted the forest green. Still have the original build sheet that I found under the pass. side seat . I sold the car in 1987 or so for 7k .. I sold it too cheap as I had people beating the door down to get the car.. completley unmolested 80k mile car at the time .I bought it out of Oregon & it had the personal Oregon plate RPO Z28 . It was one of my favorite cars I ever had.
