Muncie linkage rebuild

Either need the rebuild kit or a good reputable rebuilder. Tired of stirring the mush. Thanks.

Any idea how much a typical rebuild/restoration would run???

Re: Muncie linkage rebuild

Ray has a whole setup for doing Muncie shifters. Has a plating guy he uses for the chrome. BB Benny just had one done by him..maybe he can share current cost info. Everyone I have talked to says that Ray is the right guy. Hope that helps.

Re: Muncie linkage rebuild

Would this Ray feller happen to have the correct *clips* that go on the linkage? You know, the old kind that actually work, not the new kind that just piss you off?

Re: Muncie linkage rebuild

Gents..........

Unlike the High-Perf 69 Camaros, none of the Chevelles or Novas received a factory Hurst during that era. They were all the crappy 'bolt to the cross member' shifters we all love to hate.

Sam's Chevelle shifter is different from Camaro as follows:

1. The handle is removable with two bolts.
2. At least 2 different handles were available, depending upon bench or bucket seats.
3. Chevelle used a stabilzer rod bolted to the x-member.
4. The support rod from the shifter body to tranny is much thicker and of a different configuration.
5. The reverse lock-out assembly has a coil spring rather then a heat treated wrap spring as Camaro.
6. None of the linkage is interchangeable.

And the list goes on...............

MacNeish, Rich's First Generation and many others have bought restored shifters and/or parts from me.

Good luck with the shifter Sam.

Rob - I've got a few extra 'clips'. GM NOS in black Zinc Phosphate. Email me if your interested.

Re: Muncie linkage rebuild

Thanks guys. Was out for most of afternoon and evening. Good info. Craig, do you offer the rebuild kits and/or do you rebuild? BTW, mine is the big hook separate Muncie handle for bench seat. Car shifts a tad better with the reverse lock out bar removed, but still unacceptable. Will sometimes select 2 gears simultaneously, very dangerous for self-destruct!

Is this the clip you need? Ground Up has them for $1.95 each. I have used these before and they work:

Sam,

If this is for that crummy old Dusk blue Chevelle you could just solve the problem by selling the car to me https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif
