orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Because of this board and the contacts it creates i was able to get together with another member (gm 26) Nick who lives in the long island n.y. area to try and locate the orig owner of my survivor 14k mile L79 chevelle.I had an old address off the orig gmac loan contract that was issued when the car was new sold out of l.i.n.y so i asked Nick if he would swing by whenever he had time and see if the guy still lived there or if anyone remembered him, well it wasen,t even a week and Nick called me back and said he still lived there but was not home, he spoke with the wife and gave her my # so her husband could contact me , she said that he may not wanna talk about the car because he was so broken up when he sold it in 1977 with 12k miles that he always regreted it. I didn,t get my hopes up to high after that comment but about an hour later he called me https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif and said he was just talking about the car that day at work and could,nt believe it, we spoke for awhile and concluded that the car really haden,t been touched in the 29 yrs since he sold it.He special ordered the car in triple black with factory 488,s to do some racing a few day 2 items were installed and the suspension modified(for bite) possibly by motion performance(details sketchy) vintage race pic,s and whatever he still may have are going to be shared by him and its all made possible thru this board and its devoted members which i thank espically Nick who did it for the pure enjoyment of the hobby and would not accept anything for his efforts https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Scott,
Is your car the 67 that was for sale at a Bentley dealer in NY? If so, that is a beautiful car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Great story. When you swing by with it, you'll have to be prepared, as I'm sure his regret will increase tenfold and he'll wish he could buy it back.

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
It sure feels good when you come across an old friend years later. When i was in high school i had a 70 ss monte carlo that i traded soon after becouse i thought i blew the motor (young and dumb it was a bad distributor) got a 69 dart that was fun but troblesome. Well years later when i was building my prostreet 67 acadian, parts hunting (never had internet and such to get parts so your junkyard hunting and bargain finding wrecks was the only way to find what you needed) i came across a guy parting out a 67 nova ss when i got there his daily driver was my 70 monte. I was more excited about the monte then the parts car. He looked at me like i was missing a head or something, he did'nt really care when i told him the history of the car, but it was fun for me.

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
This connection was really rewarding for me. I was disappointed the first few times that I went to the house and no one was home. I would drive away and wonder that after 39 years could the original owner still live there? I went back a few days later and there was a car in the driveway. I knocked on the front door and was greeted by the original owner's wife. She was a very pleasant person and expressed to me that her husband really loved that Chevelle. I was happy to hear that he called Scott. I am looking forward in seeing Scott's Chevelle in our "Member's Ride" section with past and current pictures of his very special car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Great story. I think it is pretty neat to hear of another triple black 67 L79 Chevelle. Dad has the same car, documented with the protecto plate. It's not numbers matching (it was a race car in the 70's) But it has been restored to its original colors.
The unfortunate thing for us is that the original owner is deceased and his widow wasn't around when he had it. I have talked to the other owners but they don't have any of the original pictures. Dads car had sidepipes installed by the dealer when it was new. I left the brackets welded to the frame when I redid it. It didn't seem right to remove what was left. I did grind off the remnants of the old tow bar it had. I kind of regret that now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...rinskyleft.jpg |
Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
I also left the old bar style traction bars that were installed at some point in the 70's. The SS hood is going to be replaced with a stinger hood one of these days.
No it's not a real Nickey car. Dad is from Chicago and frequently would stop in at Nickey. He had all the paperwork signed to buy a white 68 427 Nickey Camaro. My grandpa killed the deal when he found out dad was street racing his 67 SS Camaro. Sometimes it's good to have police for friends. Unless they are your dads friends and they rat you out for racing. oops |
Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
I think your car looks KILLER just the way it is.....

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
This isn't Scotts car. This one is my dads but it sounds like they are twins. Scott, I'd love to see some pics of your car.

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Thanks for the compliment, he is really happy with it. The stinger hood will be the finishing touch. It was great redoing it for him. I'm dying to see Scotts car. I have been told black is a rare color so to hear of another triple black L79 is really neat.

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Our weather is crummy too. It's cold and snowed last night. We're supposed to get a big storm at the end of next week. I can't wait for summer. When the weather clears you'll have to remember to send me some pictures, I'd really like to see your car. The pictures I posted were taken last summer. I hate winter!!

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
We've had a wierd winter here, no snow and temps right around the freezing mark all season.

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
I used to work at a gas station in Chicago in 69 an I remember a customer coming in with a 300 post L-79 blk blk radio delete with dog dish. It had headers and there were guages hanging from the dash in front of the radio delete. Does anyone know of or remember this car?

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Yup car was always in and around the L.I area and even spent some time at motion perf (iam working on that) and various other speed shops.Has 15" orig crager rims, dupree elec fuel pump, old school sun tach and sw green line gauges ,super bite traction setup with factory 456 gear.Engine is 327 /350 hp,m21 trans, with duntov 370 hp F.I 30/30 solid lift camshaft, all deep groove vette f.i pulleys, and in its day ran a tunnel ram that the orig owner said was a work of art. The car never saw much track time it was never abused or beat but my guess is high 12,s https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif i guess thats why it only has 14k orig miles and retains all #s matching drivetrain!!! vintage pics comming soon thanks.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
Man, I love that car! Please don't change a thing about it. I've always been drawn to those L-79's because of the way they sound and run. I recently purchased a one owner Matador Red 1968 Nova L-79 car myself. You've got something really special with that car, just preserve it the way it is.

Re: orig owner of my car found thru syc.
