Check out this LS6 Scam
Check out this auction that was on ebay last week...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet...609149767QQrdZ1 The car was not too far from me, so I attempted to arrange to see it, but the owner ended the auction after I met the reserve. I got his number from a lead on Team Chevelle and spoke with him on the phone and he seemed legit and said he already had sold the car for $75K. So, I move along and find a triple black LS6 and was doing some pricing research tonight to help me negotiate and come across this... http://www.barrett-jackson.com/aucti....asp?id=181765 Look familiar??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
Although identical looking,the VIN's don't match.
Are you saying this is the very same Chevelle,or that it never existed? |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
If you look closely, you'll see the pics are the exact same...even the clock is at the same time on the interior pic. I believe that the ebay pics are just photoshopped to make them look like they were taken somewhere else. Look at the underhood shot too...identical.

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
I agree those Ebay pix do look identical to the B/J one that just sold for $89,640.00 w/fees.
So you're saying the Ebay Chevelle never existed at all,or was he just to lazy to take his own pix? I have seen a few do that, deceitful as it is. |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
I can't believe how well those photoshopped pics came out! The crazy thing is that I spoke to this guy at his home from a number listed in the phone book! He obviously is either really stupid or has the biggest balls ever https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
He said the car hadn't moved in 10 years and that his friend's father had owned it and passed away. He even explained to me why the alt was wrong and the vent was missing on the cowl etc. He said that he took the pics last summer. |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
Is his name Kurt.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
Looks suspiciously like the MO of Kurt. I don't know this seller, but this is at the very least, quite suspicious. My guess is, and this is just a guess, that the problem (for him) is that you were local. A US bidder may have lost money big time on this deal.
That is how Kurt operated. "Sell" the car, get the money, and then either no delivery, or deliver a pile of junk instead. Nothing against our Canadian neighbors, but I would be afraid to purchase almost anything from Canada on ebay. Lynn |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
I suspect you are right Lynn about why he pulled the ad. It wasn't Kurt though as it was a Sudbury, Ontario number. I think his name was Warren if I recall correctly. I wouldn't buy any car without setting eyes on it in person or via an inspection.

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
The pix in the B-J auction catalog were taken at Valenti Classics, a dealer in SE Wisconsin.

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
Well I consider myself a master in Photoshop. Look at the placement of the tire lettering. The tires are rotated. Besides there is really no way possible to remove the grass from the "through the tinted windshield". Also the BJ pic has a front license plate bracket that appears to have the name mentioned above, "Valenti Classics, a dealer in SE Wisconsin" IMO

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
There is a pair of brothers in ontario that scam people from the states selling fake cars. One lives in the states one lives here and they go back and forth.

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
I agree with the glass thing . . . no way in heck.
Try enlarging the photo . . . comes out grainy. A hint of texture to hide the lines???? Super good try though!!! |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
The pics are almost identical except..check out the steering wheel and the turn signal. hmmm I (almost, like 99%) know this would not have been done in Photoshop. The steering wheel is turned very slightly.

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
One other thing that is similar is the spot of sunshine about the size of a quarter on the console. Looks to me that they are of the same car, just taken a few min apart.
On one you can just see the point of light on the console and the BJ shows it much bigger. One was taken perhaps 5 min later than the other. Pantera https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
Yes the pics are different....especially the main view of the car as they're from a slightly different angle....look at the space between the mirror and top of w'shld etc. . But although too much for photoshop, the coincidences seems uncanny? . Could the BJ seller have taken a buncha' pics and this guy used some of them and the grainy ones on purpose? . The whole thing feels like a Columbo episode or something?? ~ Pete

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
The clock shows the same time in both pics. Same car IMO.
|
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
Could be the battery was unhooked or the clock just doesn't work.

Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
I would say 2 different photos and the photographers height must be 5'8" in the first photo and 5'9" in the second as the amount of the turn signal flasher visible under the dash is different by approximately 1/2 inch. And based upon the shadow pattern and the angle of inclination of the celestial orb (the sun) one photo was taken at 1:15 PM and the other at about 2:00 PM in late May or early June.
Gee, all those college level astronomy and geometry classes finally paid off. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif |
Re: Check out this LS6 Scam
It would'nt surprize me if some scammer went down to BJ to get his yearly suppy of pictures for his eventual scams. What better place to be.
