Where to get factory correct hoses?

Where is a good place to get factory correct upper and lower radiator hoses? Do they make reproductions that have the GM part numbers on them?

I will be installing a new radiator sometime next week...time permitting, so I'd like to change the hoses out, too!

Any suggestions? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Duh...it's a 1966 SS 396 Chevelle. I found some on the National Parts Depot website...next question is...which size tower clamps does it use...2 1/16 or 2 5/16?

Kasey...it sprang a bit of a leak in the radiator... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

It's all good. It'll spend some time in the gagrage for a bit.

Probably the damn shop that knocked the bearings out of it put a hole in the radiator https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

Bruce,
That car is nothing but trouble for you. Why don't you let me do you a favor and take it off your hands, it should run fine up here in the cool Pacific Northwest....

Seriously, be sure to get a lower rad hose with a spring inside, to prevent it from sucking flat when hot. If your new hose doesn't have the spring, you should be able to pull it out of the old one and slide it in...

A little detail often missed/skipped when doing a restoration is the rad hoses. The originals had a somewhat faded 1/8 wide white stripe running the length of the hose with "breaks" for the numbers, and breaks at each end. I found an nos hose, and duplicated the stipe on the two rad repro hoses for my 68 Chevelle. I've noticed the diehard Vette guys use a blue stripe for their application.

You mean like this? The blue line is correct for mid-year applications.

Bruce. The clamp on the water pump is the largest, 2 5/16. The 2 upper clamps are the smaller, 2 1/16. And I forget if the lower one on the radiator is the same size as the upper???

And if you want to get real anal you can dust the hoses in baby powder when completed to replicate the manufacturer's mold release. Sorry, I am one of them........

While we're on the hose/clamp thing. Who has the correct size water-pump bypass hose clamps? I can't seem to find the right size.

Re: Where to get factory correct hoses?

Are you talking the side style clamps. If so try paragon corvettes.

mssl72 01-29-2006 05:53 AM

Re: Where to get factory correct hoses?

I've ordered them from Paragon before and they're big. Here's a link.

clamp

By the time the clamp starts to get tight, the nut doesn't have anywhere to go.
I'm kinda stumped. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Mark, what do you have for pipes coming out of the intake and water pump and do you have the correct by pass hose????
Could you post some pictures of it?? Or take a measurement of the circumfrence and post it. Something doesn't seem right. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Where to get factory correct hoses?

I agree something doesn't seem right. All the fittings are correct as far as I know. The one on the intake is original from what I can tell. The water pump currently on the car is a rebuilt one and had the usual fitting. Here's a pic that shows the water fitting on the intake.

Here's a pic that shows the hose. The clamps have all been changed since this picture was taken.

I didn't have the foresight to keep notes on the measurements. I may have to drain some antifreeze and pop that hose to measure things. Any ideas?
