2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
1 Attachment(s)
Of the 596 AMC Rebel Machines ever built in any one of the 17 Available AMC Colors, (Yes, They did come in something OTHER Than Red White and Blue) These are two Low Mileage Totally Correct, Very Show Worthy Factory Matador Red Rebel Machines.
Back in the Day, all the Car Magazines said RED was the Prettiest Color, and we would have to agree. There are No Production Number breakdowns by color, however only about 20-30 might have been built in total in RED. 8 are currently known to exist on the Machine Registry, these are the Only Two Known to be Totally Correct and Complete. REBEL number 1- is a 56,000 mile example, that is fully detailed throughout, and is know as one of the Most Photographed Rebel Machines Ever. Magazine articles and Calendars too numerous to mention here. 4-speed, Numbers Matching. $45,000.- Rebel number 2- Was hidden away for many years in a warehouse. It has 36,000 Original Miles. Also a 4 Speed. And also Numbers Matching and Correct. Not quite as highly detailed as Number 1 but Very Very presentable. $40,000.- Until Our two Machines, There has NEVER been Two Matador Red Machines Side by Side. NEVER ! If You Want Unique, this is it. Buy The Pair! I will attach a Photo of Rebel Number 1 to this, but have Many Photos of Both available to Interested parties. If You Want a TRUE Factory RED Rebel Machine this is YOUR Chance. There are No Others like these. Correct. Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
These are very rare and cool...someone said one of these crossed BJ for dirt cheap...I didn't see it....got any V8 Gremlin X' s laying around !

Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
There was a "Bittersweet" Color Rebel Machine, that went for cheap on Barrett Jackson this past Tuesday. It was a re-hashed dog of a car. Not detailed and a horrible color.
I don't have any Gremlins at all right now, but there is a REAL V-8 Gremlin on E-Bay at this moment, and it's Red, also, there is a Matador Red AMC Hornet S/C 360. Kind of like AMC's answer to the Nova. Only they made about 1000 S/C 360's and that was that. |
Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
Draginwagon; I don't know where you got your stats from, but there were approximately 2328 Rebel Machines built. I was an avid AMC enthusiast for years, before jumping ship to Corvettes. Hornet S/C 360 production was approximately 674, while Hurst Scrambler Rambers (Rogue body style) were around 1512 built. I owned only Javelins and AMX's, mostly 1970, had twelve of them. Production for the 1970 Mark Donohue edition Javelin was 2501, and the RED/WHITE/BLUE Trans Am Javelin was 100 built. Unfortunately about the only real threat to Chrysler, GM and Ford muscle cars, track or street was the Hurst Super Stock AMX's, 52 were built in 1969. I believe they were built for homolgation to the SS/C & SS/D classes. Shirley Shahan campaigned one successfully. Then Craig Breedlove and his wife broke 102 USAC national and international endurance runs with a pair of '68 AMX's, one a 290cid, the other a 390cid. However Mickey Thompson came along the following year in 1969 with a Boss Mustang and broke these records. |
Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines

Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
AMC's of all types..AMX's/S/C Hurst'/ Rebel machines..were VERY common in N. Ill/S. Wisc when i grew up. In fact, the only muscle car dealer in my town of 150K specialized in AMC's. How weird is that?
I bought a '69 AMX from him in '78 and to close the deal he threw in an Offy crossram that I think was available through AMC. Being the brilliant one I am, I traded it the same day to a friend for some wheels. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif I'll bet there are a ton of cool AMC's sitting around between Dekalb and Janesville. |

Hi Tom,
Actually, My Wife is an authority on AMC Rebel Machines. She became such since she was virtually ignored at Car Shows, even though she does all her own Mechanical work and Detailing. Rebel number 1 has been hers for many years and she has written several articles about Rebl Machines. Her car has taken "Best Muscle Car" at the Greenwich Concours D'Elegance, Another Best Muscle at Bridgehamptons Concours, and too many others including a showing at Meadowbrook in 04. She knows her way around a lot of other cars as well. On the production numbers, There were a total of 1936 Rebel Machines built in 1970, 596 in any of the avialable AMC colors, 14 or 17 depending upon which brochure or dealer book you use. Leaving 1340 Red White and Blue cars. When have been privy to the Actual Factory documents for production through a friend who bought all the AMC records when Chrysler bought them out. They were going to trash it all. My friend has since sold off the Rambler records but hung onto the Javelin, AMX and Machine records. The National American Motors Drivers and owners association also publishes these numbers as actual. We have been fortunate enough to meet and befriend a gentleman who worked with Dick Teague in AMC styling through all those years and he verified my friends Factory Documents as the real thing. There are Only 8 Known Matador Red Rebel Machines, and ours are the only two who are complete and in show condition. Rebel 1 has been in Collectible Automobile, as well as Hemmings Muscle Machines and a Calendar car for Hemmings Muscle Car Calendar. Rebel 2, was hidden away till we got it. By the by, My Wifes Rebel has been photographed and engineering drawings done for a 1:18th Die Cast coming out in Sept 06. It will be a Yat Ming Signature Series car. The first Big Die Cast of a Rebel Machine ever. I have attached a Photo of her 390-4 barrel, Her handiwork detailing shows. The engine compartment itself is the Original Factory Paint. Hinges were refinished as was Block and ancillaries. She does All Our Detailing. |
Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
WOW ! If you still had the Offy Cross Ram, I know of someone who is looking for that. AMC Cross Rams are not very plentiful.
Drop a Cross Ram and Dual 4's on a 390 or 401 and WOW ! Could they move, they are virtualy the same motor. Even with the stock 4 barrel they go, They were nicknamed "The Flying Brick". As a Matter of Fact the 304, 360, 390 and 401 were all the same basic block. A little diff in Bore or Stroke and Voila. Because the Machines had more space and could utilize a few special parts that were Machine only, they had the highest horsepower. |

[/ QUOTE ] Jeez, just what I wanted to hear!!! j/k https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif I wish I still had the car. 40k, 2 owner, bone stock..Thats why I didn't want the manifold as I remember. Mine was a '69 so it had the flat hood with the fins in the front. (Not a good description but I'm sure you know what I mean.).Anyway, I loved that hood and didn't want to mess with it. Plus all I got was the manifold..no carbs, linkage, etc. Seemed like a good idea to get those wheels for "free" at the time..LOL! Awesome cars you have, btw! |
Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
a # that also floats around on the SC/Hornets is 667. also, the first 100 Donohue's were in the famed Red/White/Blue.

Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
I know, we all have our would have and could haves. Some of the cars and stuff I should have saved. I'm trying to make up for it now.
On Hornet S/C 360, Eddie Stakes of Planet Houston is the authority. He runs the registry and a website. Overall there were a lot less AMC muscle cars than people think. And a few Sleepers. Like the Alabama State Polices Javelin AMX's from the 70's and Los Angeles Matador Sedans with the Police Package 401's. Those were some cool cars. |
Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
The Biggest ticket AMC right now is the Super Stock AMX, there were only about 50 ever built. Red White and Blue. Cross Ram Dual 4's. Fast cars.

Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
Marlin; The Mark Donohue edition trans am Javelins are not the same as the TransAm Javelins, these red/white/blue cars came with 390cid engines and used an adjustable rear wing instead of a spoiler( '68, '69 Javelins campaigned in SCCA's TransAmerica sedan class racing used these). The Mark Donohue trans am edition used both 390 and 360 cid engines. However the 360 cid block was special and different in internal construction for use to destroke down to 305 ci limit for racing. Mark Donohue Javelins were built later during the 1970 model year and only this special design block tells you it's a Donohue edition, but if a Donohue Javelin was ordered with a 390 cid, it can't be destinguished from any other Go Pak optioned Javelin that has had a spoiler added. |
Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
You hit that on the head,
I recently put together a deal helping out a couple friends, one who needed to sell, and a buyer friend who I knew would apreciate the cars. It was a 3 car deal, A SS /AMX, a Trans Am Javelin, both with race history, and a Big Bad Green AMX. He's restoring the Super Stock now, sold the Big Bad car to another friend, and the Trans Am Javelin is in the hands of a very good collector who is going to Vintage Race it and then treat it to a full frame off. He showed the Trans Am Javelin at the Fairfield County Concours this past year and I belive a Photo is on thier website. |

Re: 2 -Factory Correct -Matador Red AMC Rebel Machines
1967 was the Last Year for the AMC, or Rambler Marlin. It was built on the Ambasador Chassis, so it could have a 390 V-8 in it. They made less than 1500 total, and Kaput. No More Marlin.
There is a GREMLIN with a V-8 on E-Bay and not the yellow one, it is a Red one and a true 304 V-8. That was the only 8 you could get in a Gremlin. There are a Lot of Gremlins out there that people put 401's in. They scream. Remember the commercial for the Gremlin???? Gas station attendant says, "Hey Lady, where's the rest of your car???" |
