'67 Rcode 427 Comet
I am in the middle of the restoration of a '67 427-425 4spd Comet 202 sedan, one of 22 built. Is there an active member who is very knowledgable on these cars (virtually identical mechanicals to a Fairlane)? I'm going along well but do have a few questions. What a task finding NOS Mercury Comet trim pieces........not like catalog shopping for your Camaro or Mustang.

Take a look at the black with red guts one on E-bay right now. I think the auction ends today. What an awesome car. What color is yours?

George , look up 427Rcode in the user list and drop him a note !

Re: '67 Rcode 427 Comet
I'm not sure how knowledgable I am but I own a 66 and 67 R code Fairlane. We've restored two and are about to begin the 67 XL that I bought recently. I do have a few parts that might help but of course the trim pieces are different for the Comets. Good luck with your project, they're great cars. I don't know of any better looking engine than a 427 with that huge aluminum intake and dual Holleys with an oval aluminum air cleaner.

Factory documentation confirms that only 60 cars were built with this option. Body styles included the 202 sedan, Capri, Caliente and Cyclone. Records indicate that only twenty-two 202 sedans were equipped with the 427 engine. |

Looks like the car that's at the York show each year, one of my favorites - total sleeper https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Re: '67 Rcode 427 Comet
It's not a Comet but one of the best examples of these cars is the old Connie Moore Fairlane XL. It later became part of the Otis Chandler collection and was in the book featuring his collection. Dark blue with a black vinyl roof.

I remember that car from MCR years ago, but wouldn't the resto be somewhat backdated now?

Re: '67 Rcode 427 Comet
Thank You for the replies to my original post. My car is a Caspian (Dark) Blue/Medium Blue cloth 202 (cheapie) 2 dr post sedan. Very little street use ever, no rust but a tired old drag car needing total restoration. Probably about half done today and going along well. Tough car to do, very little NOS stuff, interior made up from NOS yardage searched out (no kits or covers). I am the 4th owner, previous to me owner had car for 22 years. I have found the original owner, the gentleman today owns Beaver Springs IHRA Dragway in Pennsylvania. Cool old drag strip, check out their web site. Boy, was he ever excited to hear from me last year when I found the car. I will be at the strip next summer for their nostalgia event and Bob will make a pass in his Rcode 427 Comet. Can't wait ! I'll try to post some pics in the near future.

Re: '67 Rcode 427 Comet
I'm a little late to this thread, but here goes.
If you haven't done so already, go to FordFE.com, which will link you to a Network 54 forum. A gentleman named Peter Wilson frequents that site. His ID will show up as either "pmw" or "Peter". He has an R code Comet but more importantly, he's totally focused on these '66/'67 427 Comets and Fairlanes. He is to them what Marlin is to Deuces. You give him a color and general area, and he can usually come back with the selling dealer, who campaigned it, how its optioned, and the VIN. And, like Marlin, he shares his information with like minded people. Do look him up there. A search for "R code Fairlane" should get you a bunch of hits. If you have trouble, PM me and I'll try to get you his contact info. Your best reference car is proably the 1,998 mile black on tan R-code 202 that Dick Bridges owns/(owned?). Car is said to be outstanding in its originality and detail, but I haven't seen it up close. Finally, I have access to a couple of reference quality R-code Fairlanes (a '66 and a '67) that I can go look at if you think that could be of help to you. Best of luck to your restoration efforts, please post pics when done! TOM BRESKE Seattle, WA |
Re: '67 Rcode 427 Comet
I was wondering where you were !!!!

Re: '67 Rcode 427 Comet
George;
I have a customer who is currently doing an R code Fairlane. He gave me the OK to forward his contact info to you, and also has some other resources available that may be of help to you. Check your private messages for his contact info, I'm not sure he wants me posting it on the open forum. Hope this helps. Eric https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: '67 Rcode 427 Comet
George,
Where are you located in Erie? I'm only 90 minutes south of you along I-80. The wife and I both have family up there and I would like to stop in sometime I'm up. Lon BTW, for Ford knowledge you might try a guy in Stoneboro. |
