Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
Anyone remember a Phase III Corvette in that area? Custom gold paint, stacked motion style hood, inverted louver vents, flat back glass, moon gas cap, ect.

Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette

Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
I tried to post a picture but I think it was to large. I guess I need professional help so I'll ask my wife.

Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
With out looking it kinda sounds like this could turnout to be the Gold/Black car that was sold at BJ last Jan. It was up in that neck of the woods if you know what I mean.

That would be a early 69 from that vin #. It is only 1189 after my '69 was made.

Harold can fill in the details. It's a neat looking Vette but it doesn't look like a Motion car to me. The rear window isn't the same as Motion GT's. Here is a pic of the Motion for comparison.

Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
The NON Motion items that I see are
Headlights in the grill ???? Front air dam/spoiler Rear Spoiler not a Motion Hood (Similar tho) Obvious it was a repaint. Rear window is wrong Wheel flairs are 1970-72 stock flairs Stock rear taillights I think I still see the Corvette letters on the rear. That looks like a nice Moton style street machine. I know one thing and that is I would hate to try to drive it with the headlights like they are. I seriously doubt that Joel would have sold a car with them like that. Just too dangerious and hard to see when you drive it. I had one come through my Car lot one time with them in the grill area and what a POS to try to drive at night. You can't see squat very far in front of you. And the one I had didn't have a grill in front of the lights like this one must have. Either that or someone just forgot to put any headlights on it at all.??? LOL.... Pantera |
Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
No I don't think this is a Motion Phase III car but a Motion Mail-Order car done to the owners liking. I think they tried to copy the Phase III car and did a pretty good job.It no longer has a tri-power but was converted to single 4 barrel, 427x intake, 4296 Holley carb (1971 date code).I really don't know anything about the car other than it is in a great original customized condition. The paint is very old and except for changed items it is in a survivor condition.

Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
Motion car or not (?) I am no expert...
It sure is a neat looking machine... a real day-2 street car for sure. Cool find... is she yours? |
Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
Yes bought it last summer, the car drives out nice and I am planning to do nothing to it. It has never been detailed so it really does look like it drove out of 1970. I have taken it to some small car shows and everyone loves the look whether they know anything about cars or not.

Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
Harold you definetly have a cool old Day-2 customized Vette there. Don't do a thing to change it man. Sadly I don't see a single mod on the car that is a Motion piece (except the Moon fuel filler) but it was no doubt built to resemble a Motion Vette. There were alot of companies back in the day that followed Motion's lead on these kind of Vette Mods. Do you know where you car originated from? A car modified like that somebody has to know something about it.

Re: Sykesville MD Phase III Corvette
I know they had the lights there but this is a stock 69 grill with the lights behind it. If those are the original vette round lights then they are even worse than the square lights.
I don't remember when the square lights came out but I am sure someone will have the answer. As for the Maco vette, I bet that is not much better than the gold car as far as trying to see to drive on dark roads with out wiping out on a chughole. Lights down that low suck. They may look good but leave a lot to be desired at high speeds. Pantera |
