Re: what's up with this door tag?
nope.....that was standard practice on a ford door tag
more pics to follow, there are a couple more skill testing questions but ya gotta get this one first |
Re: what's up with this door tag?
Fred is quizzing you guys. He explained it to me. You probably have to be a Ford freak to figure it out. Ever see a Ford door tag with that much blank space ?

Re: what's up with this door tag?
I take it it's the tag itself....not the info? ~ Pete

But why is the 5'th digit an F in the Vin attachment pic and R on the door tag? ~ Pete |
Re: what's up with this door tag?
89 DSO Stands for Ford Transportation. Was the extra space on the tag used to place a certification sticker or tag similar to SCCA racing?
|
Re: what's up with this door tag?
Hey maybe it was a prototype ! Either that or the extra space was there in case someone wanted to write "Charley Sucks" on the tag.

calling all blue oval fans..... what is different about this door tag: https://www.yenko.net/attachments/175...G_1126fred.jpg I'll go out on a limb and say the Tag is a Fraud. judging by the Apron stamping, someone is/was trying to pass off a 302 2V Mustang as a GT500 or Cobra Jet Powered Car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif have fun with this one guys [/ QUOTE ] |
Re: what's up with this door tag?
I see that Dave the R code on the tag and the F code on the apron , but what does that star mean?
|
Re: what's up with this door tag?
Your a star when you drive a ford!!!
|
Re: what's up with this door tag?
It's the asterick to indicate certain conditions apply....ie. you're driving a Ford?? ~ Pete
|
Re: what's up with this door tag?
The Star simply indicates the beginning and the end of the VIN. Example:*674005432168* I assume this way someone could not add digits at the beginning or the end as the VIN was simply pounded into (Of all Places) Radiator Supports and inner fender sheetmetal. Both of which were commonly replaced after Front end collision damage. Not one of FORD's "Better Idea's"!!
|
Re: what's up with this door tag?
Not that I know(or care to know)anything about "Furds"but does that serial number tag have enough digits for 1968.GM cars always had 13, you only have 11.Is that normal or did ford keep their serial# short as to not confuse their owners.

pete, good catch on the F and R
dajudge, the 89 dso is the key 12 bolt, bingo on the star ssteve, get back in your shop and get that firebird done, I need Frank on the LS6, Stuart is waiting patiently. Here is the buck tag, you will notice an S on this one where the F and R are on the others. The F 302 is on the apron, the S 390 is on the buck and the R 428 is on the door tag. Keep the guesses coming guys. |

"NOT FOR TITLE OR REGISTRATION"
Is that unusual to state this in regard to the VIN on this plate? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif |

"NOT FOR TITLE OR REGISTRATION" Is that unusual to state this in regard to the VIN on this plate? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif [/ QUOTE ]although that is on all the FORD door tags, I never understood why. assumption would have one believe that due to the probability of cars ending up in junkyards, Most people never bothered to change that Door Tag when they R&R'ed the doors. as a kid at the Dealership, My task on Saturdays was to retrieve Keys from the night drop and assign Mirror tag and Key numbers and write all the information from those Warranty Plates. I have seen many but this one is odd for certain to me. other than the fact that it was probably a Test mule I am drawing a Blank. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: what's up with this door tag?
Found this on www.mustangandfords.com
[ QUOTE ] DSO 89, Transportation Services (that entity within Ford that was responsible for all routing of company vehicles) [/ QUOTE ] So was this an executive car? Found on www.ponysite.de [ QUOTE ] DSO 89, which stands for Ford's Transportation services, a common DSO for special promotion use or management VIP reservations. [/ QUOTE ] It could be a factory race car? Are we on the right track here? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif DOH! Just read the other post - cool car! -Sam |
