Challenger Concept debut.
Muscle Cars
New Challenger to Debut in Detroit http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...er_drawing.jpg Could this concept Challenger become a reality? Hard to say, but at least its chances at a revival are better than the Plymouth ’Cuda's. photo courtesy DaimlerChrysler Most people screamed bloody murder when Chrysler brought back the Charger with four doors and no resemblance to the tire-smoking Chargers of yesteryear. (Though it is faster, far more comfortable, more reliable and gets decent fuel mileage if you keep your foot out of it.) Nevertheless, last May, Hemmings Muscle Machines Associate Editor Daniel Strohl was told face-to-face by Chrysler execs at the 2006 Charger introduction that a two-door muscle car wasn't happening. Well, how things change. Perhaps seeing a chance to gain additional ground on GM, which is slowly sinking into oblivion, Chrysler has announced it is unveiling a 2006 Dodge Challenger concept. Looking incredibly like the gorgeous original 1970 model, the new car features rubber bumpers, which are the norm today with chrome likely never to return. However, stylists have done an admirable job of incorporating the distinctive Challenger trademarks: the rear fender kick, wide-mouth front end, functional hood scoops and those awesome rectangular exhaust tips, that were actually split in two, unlike the wide single outlet on its brethren: the 1970 and 1971 ’Cuda. Chrysler says the concept will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January. - By George Mattar Have heard that if she goes to production the big hemi (425 hp) will be available with (hold on to your hats) the pistol grip shifter hooked up to a manual tranny! Such radical thoughts - there couldn't possibly be a market for this, could there https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/shocked.gif ?! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...812/103629.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...enger_rear.jpg Does this beast stir anyone's soul? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
It looks to flat in the front end.
The rear resembles a Firebird. Are those Camaro IROC rims? |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
O.K. Rick, so its not the rebirth of the Chevelle. Though, I am sure they were able to save some money by using left over inventory of the IROC and 'bird. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Oh man I like that! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
Check this out! I like the orange version better. |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Looks good in the pics....will have to see the production version in person before I pass final judgment.

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Could MOPAR have another winner in the near future? It sure looks like it, if this Challenger goes into production. WOW!!
My Dad currently owns two MOPAR Hemi's. A 2005 Chrysler 300C, and the Dodge 1500 4X4 pickup. He is very happy with both. He always owned Chevrolets in the past. I tell ya, that 300C with the Hemi is a screamer. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
No doubt about it. I like the look of this Challenger over a new Mustang... Hmm. I might be walking into the nearest Dodge dealer..
Can they throw all-wheel-drive in there to. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
I'm not even a mopar fan but that spy photo looks cool as heck. I'm telling you right now, if this alleged "secret unveiling" camaro concept or whatever it is that GM has planned in January isn't anything less than spectacular, they might as well nail the coffin shut. That challenger makes the new Mustang look weak IMO...
|
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Bringing the Challanger back and styling it close to the original, if sales go well, maybe it will inspire GM to get into the pony car race and bring back the Camaro!!!!!
|
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
The tail is weak....looks like late 60's T'Bird....needs a good spoiler? . Although similar to the Challenger, the grille looks bad too....like leftovers from the 80's Dakota trucks? . The whole characture look is somewhat like the 'Mopars on LSD style' of the "Rapid Transit" show cars....wonder what stripes will happen? . The black car looks better w/ it's '71 Cuda style grille and fender gills. ~ Pete

[/ QUOTE ] I think the Camaro will be Chevrolet's last chance for any kind of comeback. How much of a comeback will it be? Good question. For the sake of Chevrolet, I hope the Camaro comes back in full force. Like Joe said, it will have to be spectacular to compete with MOPAR and even Ford. Being a Chevrolet fan/owner for many years, it is hard to watch what is happening to GM. |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
That concept is wild. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif
If Mopar makes the production model similar to that concept... I think they would be hitting another home run. |

GM,get your heads out of your a**es and get that Camaro built...and right! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
WOW! I like it. I have no doubt that GM will screw up the new Camaro.
|
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
I love it. After looking at my 70 & 71 Challenger rear ends just now, I think they did pretty well. That burnt orange one reminds me of a 71 model, now if they would only offer 20 different color choices like the original cars in 70 & 71......gotta build em' first though.
|
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
GM management ought to be ashamed of themselves. Chrysler has always been a little creative
and daring. Quality Control problems haunted them for years but since merging with Daimler they seemed to have cleaned up their act and they are building exciting cars that make you want to stop and look in the showroom. The only GM I would even bother to look at is the Z06 or a Truck. |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
My gut is telling me not to get too excited about the Camaro debut...their past history of resurrecting nameplates is not flattering in the least...and right now, GM is basically focused on bailing water out of a sinking ship...
|
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
I think those gm reps need need to get with the program, they missed the boat allready,I and many others would buy a new concept camaro in a second... That is of course if they built it right..Im a chevy guy to the bone,But that challenger sure looks good?

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
imagine Dodge Challengers running in the IROC series. mercury should be pouncing with a body on that mustang chassis. bring back the Eliminator!

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
I haven't given a modern Mopar a second thought (excluding the Viper), but this baby floats my boat. The styling is there, yeah its retro and a bit daring (where is the sloping aerodynamic hood with C/D in the twenties?). Very aggressive stance, worthy of the title "muscle car" with a beastly modern 425 HP Hemi. If you have never had the pleasure of rowing a Hurst Pistol Grip, you are missing one of the sweeter pleasures of life. I concur w/ "71-LS6" - give me High Impact colors out the whazoo! Just imagine.... Go Mango, Sublime, Plum Crazy, Hemi Orange, Top Banana, Green Go, or for the daring, Panther Pink.
Did I mention this car excites me? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...hallengera.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...812/genfj5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...nsecharger.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...emi_orange.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...Challenger.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...2/p1010005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...chargeradt.jpg |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
On the www.moparts.com The Challenger concept has been talked about for weeks now. Theres a picture from "MPH" magazine showing the car posted. Cover picture. Can anyone post it?
Its in the "General" forum under Challenger concept, page 11. Its worth taking a look at!! Patrick |
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
C'mon Sam...tell us how you really feel. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
I agree that leadership at GM has been lacking...it's no secret. GM has missed out for quite a while. When Ford was doing the new Mustang, GM was farting around with an all aluminum big Chevy truck for one of their concept vehicles...Leadership starts at the top...and so does vision. I really like the new Challenger concept car...I think as far as retro styling...both Ford and Mopar get it...it remains to be seen if GM even has a clue... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/hmmm.gif |

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Chrysler seems to be building great products! but while the 425 hp hemis were tempting, no manual and ok styling has stopped me. But a car like this, with looks and a 6spd.... might find room in my garage for this https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
That car will be a huge hit. The fact that people will be able to buy a new 425 HP Hemi, pistol gripped Challenger is news that Chrysler is paying attention to what people are asking for. When you see that car, you know that it's a Challenger. Everyone also recognizes a new Mustang from a mile away. When you see a new GTO, you start looking for emblems to make sure it's not a Grand Prix. It's heartbreaking, but Chevrolet really turned it's back to musclecar enthusiasts. All they want to sell us now are new pick-up trucks and SUV's so we can trailer our old musclecars to car shows and race tracks.

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Wow that looks fantastic.
|
Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Glad to see certain car manufacturers are giving these cars their visual muscle car platform back , which can be built upon without jumping off the deep end with the generic cookie cutter designs-----------The time is right for the GTO to jump in---It would be great to see the major 3 car manufacturers battling it out again-----------

[/ QUOTE ] I couldn't agree more. I never wanted to own F--d, but their designs like the fastback GT and Shelby cars sure did get my attention.....and their interiors made every Chevy look like a taxi cab!!!! Now I notice the new Mustang on the streets, and before it gets into full focus, I think I'm looking at one that's almost 40 years old. They're sweet! What happened to our beloved Chevrolet!!!!?????? Why not a retro '69 Camaro, or '66 Chevelle??? Maybe what the General needs to see is national press coverage of the equilivent of a Boston Tea Party when the next shippment of lame "bar of soap" badge only cars arrives at their port of call..... Sorry, just venting. I feel betrayed. There obviously aren't any "car guys" running that company. .....or anyone with the balls like Zora to write a letter......... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif |

We can hope the new Camaro hits the mark !

Verne...well said..I couldn't have said it better...

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
The Mustang, Challenger, 300C, Solstice all show that design is the most important thing in a car. The GTO is a great car but it's a dud in the looks department. Just like a woman who might be great in bed and a fantastic cook but looks like Bea Author.

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
Well, two of the big three auto makers have taken the hint so far and it should help fill their coffers with more booty. The more competition the better. Wish there was a way to send this web site to GM in braille.

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
I sure hope if there working on a concept camaro, they dont make the same mistake they made on the gto,It seems to me they built it that way for convenience, and boy does it show..If gm would just hire chip foose for a week at 500 an hour to scetch a retro 69 camaro, that would cost gm 35 grand for his services. And i would bet the bank,it would be a hit to the public, and to the folks on this site...just my 2 cents

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
No--No--No----I was hoping GTO would jump in with an EYE-POPPING redesigned skin -- sorta like --Halle Berry---

Re: Challenger Concept debut.
The charger kinda missed the mark but they've overcompensated on this one, fortunately. It sure looks like a hitter to me.
In the last couple of weeks I recall seeing a picture of the interior with a pistol grip shifter. Has anyone else seen that picture? |
