Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

Probably old news here but I didn't see anything on it (sorry I mostly lurk) but this would have been a neat find!
http://www.depereautocenter.com/

Evidently a Donald Schlag hoarded cars and GM hi-po parts including one, possibly two Yenkos, two LS6 Chevelles, and a ton of BBCs! (heck, I would have been happy with the 1967 RS/SS!)

The link is pics of some of his new finds...Tutenkamen's tomb was NOTHING! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Some amazing stuff there.... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif

First person that hit my mind is Heartbeat Jimmy.....I can just imagine how certain people must be going absolutely crazy, trying to get a piece of this action. I would invest money into buying some of this, but will never have the connections to do so.
I hope we can hear much more on this story, as the details unfold........

Unreal, id love to hear the story on this, did the guy pass away and left this stuff???? What do you think a collection like this is worth?? 2 or 3Million, more??

That is just plain sick! Even the guy taking the pictures is so excited he can't hold the camera steady. What a gold mine that may take years to inventory. It would be interesting to get a list of engine VINs to see how many cars might be reunited with their engines.

Those photos are absolutely hypnotic and I bet that was a nice little surprise when the Chevelle trunks were opened. This was one heck of a 401K plan for someone's retirement.

I saw it and many other things caught my eye..I almost passed out after clicking through some of the pics...a guy could make a fortune not selling any of it and just selling a tour through the stuff as is...Wowser!!!

Re: Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

I heard about this stuff 2months ago. The guy passed away and his sister sold everything to one guy. I was told the first trailer they opened, had a yenko camaro and 2 ls6 chevelles. The guy welded the doors shut because some trailer had been broke into at one time and that is why it took them a wwhile to get inside. I had a hard time believing that this was real, but now i see the pictures and know it is true!

Re: Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

They are looking to sell everything to one person. The yenko is N615312 he said. But must be N615313 V.V Cooke, and low miles. Roger

And the women wonder what we want for Christmas? . It's almost too much to believe! . Like Rick said, I'd love to go through the engines checking suffixes and Vins! . Santa, if you're real please swing by this place for a sleigh load! ~ Pete

Re: Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

Per the article, there may be a Yenko Deuce in there too... He evidently swapped out big blocks during the gas crunch, most of the BBC's are evidently Corvette engines, freshly rebuilt and then stored... He also swapped out the original engines in the cars (keeping them) just in case they were stolen, they wouldn't be numbers matching? Odd.

All of the trailers were welded shut and put end to end so they couldn't be opened or moved...

He supposedly drove around a rusty El Camino...all these great cars (I love Elcos...)but really!

Just proves you never know what people have stashed away... the one lead you don't follow up on could be the gold mine you miss out on. I can't help but wonder how much the sister sold all this stuff for...I bet someone got a very good deal.

What I'm hearing is that the entire inventory was bought for $1M and the current owner is looking to double their money ($2M) also heard that Jay Leno may be a potential buyer.

Re: Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

Just the eight cars pictured likely add up just $750-$1M. Add all the engines, carbs, fuel injection, exhaust, convertible tops, wheels, rear ends, bellhousing, transmissions, etc, etc, etc and it easily should add up to another $1M. Who knows? All you need is a couple cross ram Camaro hoods and/or complete set ups, some JL-8 rears and a few other high dollar parts and you could far exceed those numbers. I think a total package price of $2M would be very fair. If you were to e-bay these items individually, you could likely add another $1-2M but YEARS and a ton of work to do it. You could auction it all off but that would take many months to inventory and have the auction as well. Stay tuned. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

Did someone spend a lot of time cleaning those parts and restoring those engines? They all look too clean to have come out of wrecked or parted out cars. Some of those engines look like thay were removed from freshly restored vehicles!!

Deuce Trans?

A very unique setup, with the 69 Camaro shifter body and GTO benchseat stick... black knob and speedometer reducer still in place. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/drool.gif

Re: Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

First you will notice in my signature that the "yenko" has been removed which only leaves a "copo"...so on with the show. OK I'll give you the short version which will probably end up being the long version so we'll call it my version. All of this started a while back with my trying to locate the lemans blue '69 yenko camaro that was sold out of Broadway Chevrolet in Green Bay, which has not been found yet to my knowledge. I found out in early june that there was still a '69 Yenko Camaro in Green Bay and I got the owners name (Dumpster Don) however I wasn't able to get ahold of him...come to find out he had recently died, I was then able to contact his brother (no help there...they didn't get along) and then his sister who I had found was the executor of his will....now let me tell you about Don Schlag...as you may have noticed earlier in the post he was affectionately nicknamed "Dumpster Don". His dad owned a farm implement dealership in Green Bay which was then given to him by his father which he ran. So you have a guy that's never been married with a decent cash flow from his own business that liked Chevy stuff - Great Recipe. Don would buy things and never sell them and he kept much of it in the basement of the implement building until he sold it at which point he had to move stuff out (that location now is an auto parts store) and the stuff went into trailers. He kept living in a "cracker jack box" house that was next to the dealership and if you walked in the front door that's about as far as you would get because there were Chevy parts piled all over the place. You may wonder how he got all those fuel injection units...well whenever people would have a problem with their poorly running injection unit he would simply trade them for a consistent intake/carb set up. About 10 years ago one of his trailers was broken into which is why the trailors were then all welded closed and placed through out the Green Bay area. I'm sure you are all interested in the Yenko Camaro...a little history first - in talking to a friend of mine he vividly remembers 2 '69 yenko camaros running around green bay in the '70s, one orange and the other green...no blue one...dealer trade perhaps? anyways, Don picked up the orange car around 1971 for either $1200 or $1500 bucks from the original owner and from what i have been able to find out the owner history is known (Don kept a record on the car) back to the original owner and the orange car was sold new through Broadway in Green Bay. Most of this info I have recently found out talking with people who knew Don many of which didn't know what he had because he was a very quiet person and never talked about much. Moving on...I was able to persue the car due to the assistance of a fellow syc member based on the potential selling price of the car (he will remain unnamed unless he wishes to make himself known and which I am very thankful to in allowing me the apportunity to persue the car without any worries) when I contacted Don's sister she had mentioned that she knew that Don a '69 Camaro and I told her I was interested in it as well as be willing to assist in any other way possible...long story short, we had a verbal agreement in late june/early july that I would get first chance at the car when they got around to them and she didn't think that they would get around to them until spring...so fall comes around and she tells me there has been a guy helping out and he's interested in the car and she thought it was only fair he got a chance as well...then come mid of November I call every month like she suggested for an update and she tells me that she sold the entire thing to the guy that was helping them out...which is Larry the current owner of the stuff...talk about your heart falling into your ass...I left out a lot of the conversational pieces between Don's sister and I just cause they don't need to be included, but the point here is and this goes with the topic of trusting someone's word and that is...DON'T trust somebody's word, especially when there is money involved...ALWAYS discuss a selling price and get a written document!...looking back it was difficult at the time to be aggressive yet patient seeing as how the brother had just died and not knowing the sister personally, but they wanted to sell everything so they wouldn't have to deal with it all and he was there with the cash...the family was asking $1 million for everything and Larry got it for a little less than that and he is looking for bids in the 7-figure range. Back when the stuff hadn't sold yet, the VIN number that Roger posted that he was told is the same VIN that I got from Don's sister off of the title which begs the question...where's the discrepancy come in...is it the VV Cooke car?...I could go on and on about this seeing as how I kept my mouth shut about this since late May only to have the car taken out from under me...but, I'm much wiser for it...what really upsets me is that this stuff was bought to flip, not for the love of the hobby but for the money to be made off of it...I will be viewing this stuff next week wednesday and will get as much info as possible...i guess since there is nothing to talk about in regards to the packers this season, something had to happen worth talking about...only is 'sconsin. Now onto the next great Wisconsin find!...

-------While I feel your pain (deeply) take a minute and think about the part of your post having to do with flipping. If you think about it, no one would buy this amount of stuff without thinking of rolling a bunch of the stuff over, even all of it. Theres too much money involved, plain and simple. To a whole bunch of people this is retirement type money here. Its not pretty, but thats the guts of it. I think you are being a gentleman and going about things the right way. Go to see the collection and go from there. Thanks for your candid report of the true story here as if you hadnt there would have been a whole bunch more rumors about this floating around.......Bill S

thanks for the story behind the story...people do strange things when money is involved. I guess if your Larry, life is good. I can only see one way to make things right in this case...Larry should offer to sell you the 69 Yenko and offer the rest of the lot to the deepest pockets. It probably wont happen but stranger things have happened.

Re: Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

If Larry had 1mil in liquid cash to buy the lot, he might want to sell to Yenko to Fred, but I doubt it.
My GUESS is that if he took a short term loan to cover the purchase, he will want to flip the entire load as quickly as possible to avoid the interest charges, and maximize his profits. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif
JMHO, as we live in a capitalistic country.

Fred..been there on both sides had stuff sold out from under me..and also happened to call at the right time and have bought stuff..you played it the best you could with the sister, the timing was just off when it came time to talk money was all...

I look at this stuff a little different, I think it will be great to get it out in circulation again!!! the parts are only worth what the market will bare..and with that much stuff and the word spreading there may be hope of some cars and motors/trannies getting together again..I hope who ever buys it will sell it off and not stick it in there shop forever...now that would suck knowing all that stuff is just sitting....again.

Re: Just saw this in Old Cars Weekly

Don't know Larry, but heard from a reliable source that he paid cash for it so he's probably not in a big hurry to sell. In regards to my flipping comment, I won't say too much cause I don't want to have anyone take what I type the wrong way, but I will say this...I'm sure Larry knew I wanted the Yenko based on conversations I had with Don's sister, but he had to have everything , he wasn't happy with everything minus the Yenko...which takes us to where we are now...it being bought for the sole reason of making money off it. I will also say this, I have met good people (such as Colin) who make a living off of selling classic cars and I think they provide a healthy service to the musclecar community by being able to connect people with cars they are looking for, however the manner in which I lost the car I am disgruntled about.
Frank - I haven't gotten any info on whether there is a Yenko Deuce or not, but when I do I will let everyone know.
My apologies if I offended anyone...
