Got a card from a guy at VF who is putting on a US30 Reunion. Wants me to have the '68 Dick Harrell funny car there, as Dick and this car raced there on numerous occasions. As far as I know, just a reunion, no racing.

Not too far from Morocco, IN, and US41 International Dragway, which I found out is just a notch above a hole in the wall...but boy oh boy was the Yellow Submarine flyin' that day...https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Tom, did they set a date for the reunion?
The dragstrip reopening will be an uphill battle with regards to zoning and enviromental issues. Things have changed ALOT around here in the last 20 years since they last raced.
Local legend has it that Joe Satmary and the original We Haul still haunt the place as this was his home track.
I recall seeing quite a bit of U.S. 30 memorabilia at the Don Garlits' museum in Ocala a few years ago.

I for one,am most anxious to see this idea come to reality.
I think it is long over due.
Here is another great site to add to the memories.
I recommend scrolling down to the bottom right & clicking on "US 30 Commercial,to hear an actual radio Commercial by Larry Lujack himself from 1970...

Here is a vintage pic that my pops took not at US 30 but The Grove in Union Grove WI in July 1969 of Satmarys We Haul Camaro. Note the car has ZL1 painted on the front fender.

I can only imagine the draw that track would get if re-opened...I hope it gets done...

I do not know the date, but he did take my contact information and said he would get back with me. When I hear something I will post it here.

What's this 1970 CHAVELLE crap! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif

While the local residents have a point about the noise & safety issues,I don't think it's fair to judge the behavior of a few patrons some 35 years ago,on how it would be today. It was after all the 1960's-70's and we were all carefree reckless teenagers back then with long hair.
The Majority of those interested in seeing this become a reality today, are grown up responsible adults with families & careers now.
You never realize what you had until you've truly lost it,so I'd bet everyone would treat the Strip & surrounding areas with much more dignity & respect then ever before...especially on SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!
I know I would. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: U.S, 30 Dragstrip revisited

I was expecting some joke about the "Green Acres" subdivision.
I think I'll stop by Home Depot and buy a case of drywall screws for the guy that was complaining about having to pound nails back into his walls. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif
My guess would be that the biggest opponents to the track reopening would be the residents in the area who haven't maintained, much less improve, their properties.
I'm going to try and make a point of attending the council meeting next month.
