'70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
Does anybody have an under hood picture of a 1970 Z28 with the Charcoal Cannister? I have a Van Nuys built Z that i'm putting back together and want to make sure it's right. All of the great pictures I see of '70 Z 28's either never have a cannister or it's out of the shot. Thanks Guys! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif

Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
Does it have the line that goes to the front bowl on the carb? Do you have the heat shield for the carb? I may have a pic in the files here. Jack Seymour took some pics at Carlile of an engine compartment for me.

Here is a mediocre picture of the missing rubber hoses, but with air cleaner installed, you cant see enough.....This is another woulda, shoulda, coulda, 70 Special Paint, Stripe Delete COPO Z-28 ( I never saw documentation or trim tag) I let get away.....OLD pics, before I learned how to resize and too lazy now.

Ok, last shot [/ QUOTE ] Show off... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif Is the charcoal cannister for CA cars only? |
Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
Dan...My understanding and reasearch says all solid lifter cars got them. The Ca cars had an extra hose that goes to the front bowl on the carb.

Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
Tony, My understanding is that in at least 1970 ALL Solid Lifter/Holly Carb engines received (Only)the A.I.R. "Smog" system W/O Charcoal Canister........So Charcoal Canister must have been part of system to cars SOLD new in Calif (???)

Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
Chuck...Somebody smarter than me will have to give you a definitive answer. I have looked and looked for all that info. The AM has the canister listed for many different engines, but I can't find anything specific to Ca cars. Does Jack Seymours car have a canister?

Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
This EEC Charcoal Cannister is Regular Production Option NA-9.
In 1970 ALL Cars sold New in the state of Calif. & Nevada were required to have it installed, regardless of where they were built, even Hyrdaulic lifters. Later it was standard equipment on all cars sold everywhere. Veterans Day Observed https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif |
Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
Here's another NA-9 70 Z-28. David James and the shop that restored the car towed all the way from Calif.....for the ACA Camaros at Carlisle 2005. This car I believe received the most points of any LEGENDS Camaro in the two years we've had the class. I wasnt too involved in the eng comp judging, and dont recall any discussion about the NA-9 equip...but no matter, the car is CORRECT and gorgeous.
mr70, I certainly respect your knowledge. Wish you would get involved with ACA Carlisle judging to help tweak the guidelines and points. Also would like your opinions on 70 Camaro L-78 smog components and the oh so favorite subject of 70 Camaro L-78 M-40's (NOT!!! in most people's opinions) Chuck Sharin http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Carlisle1h.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...arlisle1hb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...arlisle1hd.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Carlisle1i.jpg |
Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
Heres a picture of the carb (4489) on the California car. note the hose to the vent on the front bowl like Tony mentioned earlier.

Re: '70 Z28 Charcoal Cannister
I own 2 70' SS350 cars. Both were built in L.A. One was sold new in San Bernadino, the other which is a survivor, was sold in Minden Nevada. Neither car has NA9 emmissions, which has the charcoal canister. So now what? sorry to ruin the theory. Mike
