Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
Don't believe they are in business anymore. Anybody on here have any recollection of this dealership? On a web search the only thing that seems to show up is a Corvair that was sold there. Appreciate it.

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
Is it Dunlop or Dunlap? They sold a deuce.

Is it Dunlop or Dunlap? [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the input, it appears it was Dunlap. A search under that title shows a few items, including the obituaries for the previous owner and a mechanic. Appears there is an existing Dunlap Chevrolet in Toledo, OH. Would like to get an idea of their old LOGO or something to replicate the dealer decal for their sold cars. Wonder if the dealership has possibly changed names over the years. |
Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
I'll dig through my notes, I spoke to someone there several years ago.

Don, try Youmans Chevrolet in Macon. That may be the old Dunlap dealership. If it isn't then there may be someone there that remembers it................RatPack..................

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
Called Youmans Chevrolet today Troy and talked to the sweetest "Southern Bell" receptionist named Jeanelda (now that's a name https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif). Anyway, she has been with Youmans for about 26 years and they took over Dunlap sometime in the early 1980's. She gave me the email address for the General Manager who will be back at the dealership later this week. She also mentioned the Youman family have all kinds of old pictures and such. Maybe the GM can provide me with a copy of a picture or logo or something. We'll see what develops.

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
I don't know if a lot of you feel like me these days in as much as there are a lot of people around today that don't give a crap about a lot of things and wouldn't cross the street to help someone in need. I find this negative attitude to be growing day by day. However, every once in a while you come across somebody or an organization that will be very decent and go that extra step just as a matter of common courtesy. Here is a prime example.
This is the email I sent to the General Manager of Youmans Chevrolet in Macon, Georgia. Hello George, your name was given to me by the very charming Jeanelda. Hopefully you do not mind me contacting you as I am wondering if you have interests in nostalgia and memorabilia. I have owned a 69 Chevelle SS for over five years now that was sold new at Dunlap Chevrolet in the spring of 1969. Quite a bit of past history has been gathered to this point. I am enquiring if you might have any old pictures of the Dunlap Dealership you might be willing to copy for me. Also of interest would be a picture or copy of some type of paperwork showing the Dunlap "LOGO" which might have been used on their decal placed on vehicles they sold. Thank you for your time George and I would understand if you feel my requests are unreasonable. Anything you might be willing to provide would be very much appreciated. Don Lightfoot Kingston, Ontario This is the response I got. Don, I should have several things I can send you. It may take a week or two. I am headed to Chicago on business Friday and have a lot to do to prepare. However, my father, Bob Dunlap's son-in-law, will be in next week and can probably place his hands on more memorabilia and history than I can. One of us will get something to you within the next two weeks. Send me a mailing address. George Like any other business these people are in it to make money. They obviously have no future potential from someone like myself living about 1,200 miles away. George just appears to be nice gentleman willing to do something for his fellow man. I will likely send him a nice framed picture of my car in return. Bottom line - the world hasn't gone completely nuts just yet I guess https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |

Thought I would put a closing on this thread. Received a bunch of stuff today from George Youmans. By no means the most exciting stuff in the world, but I certainly appreciate them and his efforts.
Received two old decals. |

It appears Dunlap was more than just a sales outlet. Here's an invitation to their plant highlighting the 25th anniversary of the Buick (established 1904?). This could be from around 1929.

Don, I would be jumping for joy if I got those items from the dealer that my car was sold at! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
OOPS - I don't know my anniversaries very well. I believe Silver is 50th and not 25th. So I guess that invitation and plant picture were from the early 50's https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
Silver is 25 !

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
Ya Bob. Every since I told my wife about this she has been whacking me in the head about my stupidity when it comes to Anniversary Milestones. DUH! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
Found this for us all !
Kind of relates to wedding anniversaries but I think but it kind of works for other stuff too. I just realized I could have just bought my wife a can last year. • First – paper • Fifth – wood • Tenth – tin • Fifteenth – crystal • Twentieth – china • Twenty-fifth – silver • Fiftieth – gold • Sixtieth – diamond |
Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
I better start saving...either my wife gets a new set of China...or we take a trip there! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ouguysrock.gif

Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
How's this for a first post here bringing a 10 yr old discussion back to the top? I'm in Macon, Ga and well familiar with Dunlap Chev and George Youmans Jr., the present owner. Among my collection of cars I have an LS6 Chevelle and a '69 L89 Corvette that were sold there. My family bought a number of cars from Dunlap over the years. What's really sad is that there was a literal mountain of old records in the Dunlap Chev. building in downtown Macon for years after the building was vacated when a new facility was built 5 miles away. I'm not sure how they were organized, but could have probably been had for the taking had someone had the interest. I believe they remained there into the 90's, certainly the late 80's. I wouldn't consider that Dunlap was exactly a high performance dealer, but they did sell quite a few SHP Chevrolets in Camaros, Chevelles, Corvettes and full size.
As a side note, I have a friend of a friend who's family had a dealership up North, I think Illinois or Michigan. He's been going through their old records and has found some documentation on quite a few SHP Chevy's, I think including a Z16 and a good bit of L78 and L78/L89 stuff. I think he's going to be offering it to people who can match up cars. I'll put another post on it when I hear more. |
Re: Dunlop Chevrolet, Macon, GA
