Re: motion valve covers
Very cool! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif
Are they going back on the car? If so, post a pic when you installed them! |
Re: motion valve covers
Very cool, what did those run you to get plated as I have a set that need to be re-done?
|
Re: motion valve covers
They cost bug bucks up here $500. Canadian However they are show chrome done right, no short cuts and they are even better in person.
The plating house did them in Toronto Ontario this place does the best chrome bar none. I also did my back lights and door handles and bumpers. Repro parts are much cheaper however thre are no GM numbers on them and they dont fit worth a dam.I bought new door handles from my 70 chevelle the GM repro ones and they did not fit as good as the origional ones. Re: motion valve covers
Did your plater give you any kind of guarantee on the chrome.? I know of lot of platers won't do gurantees for chromed aluminum. I have 3 pairs of orig motion BB valve covers, 2 of which have the orig, old flaking chrome and I am looking for a plater that will guarantee thier work. Your covers look great, I see you have the "cut" Motion emblems, they seem to be a bit rarer, IMO, than the Motion emblems that fit squarely into the box. SULLY

Re: motion valve covers
My plater does the chrome the right way, not like GM did with a flash chrome.
mine covers were all flaked and had to be striped to the bare aluminium. Then I think he copper plated them then chromed them. He stands by his work.He has done my chrome for a long time and it stands the test of time everrytime. these MOTION emblems are the real ones They might be the 68 vintage. Maybe one of our members can tell us what vintage they are. suprss70 Peter |
Re: motion valve covers
The story goes on the Motion emblems is that when they ran low on the smaller ones (the ones that fit squarely in the valve cover) they had a guy at the Motion shop cut off the ends of the larger Motion emblems ( the ones they used for fender badging etc.) and put those on the valve covers, I don't know if it is a 1968 thing only, I have seen the cut emblems on an original 70 Motion Camaro. Who knows for sure, just what I was told. SULLY

Re: motion valve covers
I have valve covers with both the Motion cut emblems and the smaller ones. I'm not sure of the vintage, but I think the cut ones are older. Where is Joe G and/or Joe C?

Re: motion valve covers
Wondering what they are woth today
anyone have an idea. suprss70 |
Re: motion valve covers
I know a restored pair recently sold on ebay for about $1k.
|
Re: motion valve covers
An NOS in the box with a receipt from Joel -- 'unrestored' small block pair went for $950 (+/- a couple bucks) a month or ago?
|
Re: motion valve covers
To my knowledge there was only one size chrome Motion emblem that was sold by Joel. I know the origional ones off my '70's hood are the same size as the ones on a set of valve covers I bought recentely.
Perhaps you may have a different valve cover that was made as a copy or from a different manfacturer from the ones Joel used. The center rectangle where the emblem goes was made smaller on them, so that necessated triming the ends of the emblem to make it fit inside the rectangle. Perhaps there is a copy of the Moton emblem out there that was made larger. To get a decent price break on them he would have had to order 500 or more. I just can't see him ordering some that are so close in size to the ones he already was selling. Unless they could have come from a second order from his supplier. No one seems to know for sure. There are some copies of his emblems out there now, but the type face is slighty different. Perhaps you are looking at one of them? Pantera |
Re: motion valve covers
my valve covers have the made by chevrolet molded in the inside of the valve covers.

Re: motion valve covers
Many motion items came with the purchase of my 71 z28,owner say's he bought alot of stuff there but never let them do any work.I have an original pair of big block valve covers that were purchased in early 1971.they have the longer emblems that were cut & the valve covers are not chrome.they say japan 739 inside the cover .i removed one of the emblems & it showed old yellowed out two side tape holding them on. .also have one long emblem that has never been mounted on anything.
|
Re: motion valve covers
yes mine have that two sided tape on them that is old
I will replace the two sided tape with something else does anyone know a good strong glue to put them back so that they wont shake off with the new big block.Did Motion use made in Japan Valve covers in 1971?? suprss70 |
Re: motion valve covers
If you can shake off 3M double sided tape without a big screwdriver, lacquer thinner, and 20 minutes of cussing, you have the baddest big block I ever saw. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif In fact, make sure they're exactly where you want em before you even make contact with the tape, you only get one chance.

Re: motion valve covers
Hey Peter, nice looking valve covers. on page 33 of baldwin/motion forum there is a topic on valve covers, has some really good info about why some valve covers have japan 739 in them & why some are chrome & some are not.
