So , many of the active members have read my recent posts (and even older ones!) and lo and behold, a member named "Bwag" sends me an email that states....
"In 1992 I was divorced and a shoebox full of my car, motorcycle and racing pictures disappeared. This summer my oldest daughter found the stash of pics at my ex's home and gave them to me. The yellow car was in some of the pics. Bob" Talk about making my day! He did post a couple of them in that post about "971 Day-2 Camaro"...but this one...I jumped thru the ceiling! I'm joining the sYc group NOW....Where do I send my money? (Besides to bob, who so graciously shared the pics) https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |

That's very cool. Wouldn't you have been disappointed if bwag didn't share that information he had? Maybe now since your so happy with the site we will learn more about your car?
Nice score! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

Interesting...looks like an SS emblem on the grill, but the "SS/DA" designation was where the L72s played...doesn't prove/disprove anything, just observations...

Very cool pictures. Are there any dates on the pictures? Is that an early short spoiler on the rear of the car, it looks a little odd.

Darren, My soul is open to you. What more can I tell you that wasn't shared a year ago in the link that was posted?
(not said sarcastically ) I posted the trim tag yesterday. All I know is whAT i KNOW. Dick Arons did the motor for bob Schmidt Chevrolet in 69....So, as a 19437, who knows what engine came in it in 1969. I know it ran in the mid 11's with the time slips the seller gave me in 1984. I know I went 11.4 at Atco in 1990 with it on the M+H's that came with the car. I' know it's one bad ass car that you hear 1/2 of a mile before you see it! Please, come to NJ and we'll go over it. I'm sure, like BWAG, I'll learn something new! Your pal, Jeff https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gifx2 |

Re: 1970 History Delivered by sYc! I'm joining tonight
Ok so it sounds like you have no idea what the car was originally. Not an ounce of anything wrong with that. It's a very cool car. Have you ever contacted anyone associated with Bob Schmidt to get more history?
That picture blown up would be perfect for duplicating all the markings. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |

Yes, when I bought the car in 1984, I was in touch with the dealer who said he ordered the car from GM that way, then Arons went thru the engine to run NHRA. In the paperwork, came Aron's blueprint check-list and the bill-of-sale dated 4/30/74, from Schmidt that said "As-is sale SS-427 Camaro"

I had posted a pic on 8-18 in 70's style paint and graphics att. 153997 showing the car with Barrie Pooles Mustang and Don Grotheer's Cuda. That shot was at the first Gatornationals in 1970.

Jeff I have the paint and I will find the time. Ol Yeller looks good with the graphics. It’s always been
and always will be a race car. It’s just a race car with mufflers on it now….. |

------Im sure you have mentioned "Bob Schmidt Chevrolet". If you have also told us the location of the dealer forgive me, but can you remind us??? I spent an awful lot of time at both Norwalk and Dragway 42 as well as other more southern Ohio tracks and haunted several different Ohio dealerships as well. Went to school at Ohio U in Athens and spent may weekends roaming all over Ohio to see what different dealerships had in stock in 1967/8/9. During that time period I rarely passed by a Chevy dealership without turning in and seeing what they had. I remember one in Washington Courthouse that had a large number of Hi-Po cars, but cant remember the name.
--------All that said your 69 has a fairly memorable paint scheme and although there is something familiar about it I cant say posatively that I have seen the car...........Bill S |

Man, even in 1974 with the gas crunch underway that seems like a heck of a deal. By 1978 when I was in the '67-'69 Camaro hunt (in California) I couldn't get close to nice SS or Z cars for anything below $2500. I should have been shopping among used race cars. |
