Re: 1969 CHEVELLE COPO MQ CODE ENGINE COMPLETE NO VIN

Our 4 sped car has the original MQ code engine. The Chevelles had the VIN stamped on the deck behind the alternator. I would think that the only engines without a VIN would be the CE replacements. Our car was one of the last built and the engine build date is months before this one. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Keith,
I also have a 627MQ never vin'd 427 engine. I have also heard of at least one LS6 CRV code crate engine. It seems that some Towanda long block assemblies were coded for application but never installed.

Re: 1969 CHEVELLE COPO MQ CODE ENGINE COMPLETE NO

I'm curious to find out what GM did with left over engines at the end of the production run. Our end of July car has and early April engine. This certainly gave GM lots of time to know exactly how many 427s they would need. Left overs would probably be few. I can't imagine them scrapping them. However, I have seen skids of starters etc. dumped into gondola railway cars when clearing our plant for the 1988 trucks. It was amazing what was scrapped. Didn't see any scrapped engines or transmissions though.

Re: 1969 CHEVELLE COPO MQ CODE ENGINE COMPLETE NO

I wonder if they used some of the "left over" engines as warranty replacement so maybe you could get an 'MQ' engine under warranty and therefore it would have no VIN. But I would still think it would have the date and sequence stamping showing when it was replaced.

Re: 1969 CHEVELLE COPO MQ CODE ENGINE COMPLETE NO

Our L78 has nothing but the CEXXXXXX number. Your explanation is about the only way the and MP or MQ engine without a VIN would end up in a car but I think that they would still need a CE number or something to identify the engine for continued warranty purposes. Curious. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

1969 CHEVELLE COPO MQ CODE ENGINE COMPLETE NO VIN

Fran Preve of the Tonawanda engine plant told me a few years back that correct suffix motors were available then the CE motors used after these were used up. Does anyone know of any correct suffix replacement units being installed? Whether any did or not, was the servicing dealer supposed to stamp in the Vin if installing under warranty?

Our 396 was a warranty replacement and got no VIN stamp.

Not a big block, but the motor in my red deuce is a CTB warranty replacement, with no vin. Just CTB on the front pad.

I have seen an LS-6 with a 1972 casting "CRR" w/no Vin.

Re: 1969 CHEVELLE COPO MQ CODE ENGINE COMPLETE NO VIN

From the sounds of the responses where Vin-less correct suffix motors were replaced under warranty, I'd expect what Fran Preve of Tonawanda told me about the remaining correct suffix motors being used up as warranty replacement before CE motors were shipped out is right. . Although like any of these things, there's always exceptions to every "rule". . Has anyone ever compared the other digits of the CE number to make sense of what engine was supposed to be what? . Preve told me this list/book was tossed by some foolish years back.

Re: 1969 CHEVELLE COPO MQ CODE ENGINE COMPLETE NO VIN

What I have heard was if under warranty and it needed a complete engine it more than likely would have had a engine code but no serial number. If it only needed a short block it would have been a ce. If it would have dropped a valve and needed a short block and one head it also would have been a ce
