Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
Someone correct me if I am wrong but Charley's Car is not "A" Festival car it is "THE" Actual Pace Car! Thread to the discussion about Charley's Car and the one AJ Foyt actually recieved
|
Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
#92 is the actual pace car used to set the pace for the 500 in 67. Charlie is the owner.

No..... [/ QUOTE ] Why not, you have a whole bunch of cars, just think, one less car to wash and wax, we all know what a drag that can be on your free time. As they say, time is money so I will be saving you tons of cash by you giving me this car https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |

Charley has nothing but time on his hands since giving up dog breeding because of some unfortunate mistakes

Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
You think I wax cars ?.. The whole point of this new car barn was to have a place to keep them where they stay clean and dry. I don't even have to cover them now. Dan Young put their name on the car after they got it from Chevrolet and it was on the 1/4 panels for years. I think when the 93 Pace car came out they wanted mine back at the track on race day but they did not want any sponsor names on any of the cars so Dan Young was removed from the car at that time.

Re: '67 Festival Pace Car

Mr 396...Here is a legible copy of part of the GM work order. L34 cam maybe. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/159...987%5B1%5D.jpg

Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
I think it should read L34 where it says L35. didn't your engine put out something like 280 rear wheel horsepower?
|
Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
Charley , that is a very INTERESTING piece of paper!
I will quote one line from that piece: "Change Powertrain combination from 'as delivered status' to RPO L-35 - 396 V-8 Engine - M-40 Turbo-Hyrdamatic incorporating 3:07.1 ratio positraction rear axle assembly (Garage)." Was your car delivered initally with a prior already built engine that was not the L-35 4-speed? If so, what was the original set-up GM delivered prior to the changes? I ask this as I still refer back to the 67 VN BB PaceCar I viewed years ago that had a similar changes that resemble this statement released to you on this document... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif |
Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
How about a larger, more complete view of this document?
|
Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
I remember a prior discussion on this board, that Charley's car was built on the production line with a four speed and L78 motor.
|
Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
The car was built on a production line with L78 and 4 speed. I have no idea why they wanted to do it that way. The L78 protecto plate was in the glove box. The document I posted a pic of is one that Dan Young retyped because the orig one is hard to read. I will try to scan it and reduce it in size so it will fit on this site.

Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
The company I work for buys the dealership but they miss buying the pace car. I think somebody missed a great opportunity.

Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
Charley, was there a release date for the INDY timeline that interfered with the production line built cars?
At times I have felt that already assembled cars were pulled to fill these INDY orders. Mark C or someone else disputed my drivetrain at one time based upon timeline "current knowledge" information; so as to refer to the Dan Young Track Car, this car in particular was another RPO designation vs an actual assembly line 'followed car' in respects to the INDY order required; I mean The Dan Young Car wasnt followed from the point of origin on the order sheets to the assembly line to the finished/delivered car....it was a car already completed and retrofitted to fulfill the INDY order????? Thoughts..... |
Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
Also, If I recall ...the 3:07.1 gear ratio was intended for the 4-speed, and the 3:08.1 was intended for the automatic?
Isnt this an understood knowledge of the build combinations in our first years? |

The cars were then shipped out to the zone to join the other IPC's at the track. Charlie has all the info and documents.... on #92. Good question to ask over at www.camaropacecars.com Phil https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
Why oh why would you ditch the L78 4-speed combo in favor of an L34/35 auto combo? If the low-horse 396 can pull the 3.08 gears I would reckon the L-78 could get it done as well??

Re: '67 Festival Pace Car
I recall reading a qoute years ago about the 67 pacers and after test driving them a little GM was afraid the driver may dump the dizzy blond and AJ out the back with the L-78 and stick...I have a very cool article on Charleys car from the Camaro club magazine...very cool read..I have it somewhere but cant find it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif, they also have a article of a black 69 COPO in it getting a frame off... the first i had ever read of them..

One can always theorize anything can happen at the plants, but I would expect the owner of the system could redirect anything at any time if there was a need to do so...... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif |
