Not to many times will you see this happen but it did and couldnt have happened to a better person than Steve Sandlin as the new Owner of Yenko Deuce YS-024, Also not sure if Moses is or does check any internet sites but it was nice to meet and talk with you as well at SCR8, where the below pics were taken.

Instead of the ARK get a shot of it lighting up the rear tires and it will be known as the Burning Bush, Congradulations on a great car Steve.

The story behind the "disfigured" shifter ball goes like this... Years ago, Moses had a leak in the heater core and decided to change it himself... Using a trouble light to see under the dash, the light rested on the shifter ball as he was working... He left the light on and went in the house for a bit, and during this time, it melted the ball... Good thing it didnt set the whole car on fire as badly melted as it is! Another interesting thing I noted, is the ball itself is a faux-wood type Hurst ball... which i had never seen before on a deuce. (we had a big discussion here about the "correct" ball being black several months ago) I asked Moses if he had ever changed it, and he said no, that was the same ball it had on it when he drove it off the Dale Chevrolet lot in 1971. I noted there was no lock-nut under it to hold it in place on the stick, so possibly the original was stolen while sitting on the lot for nearly a year, or maybe some of the cars actually were shipped with this style knob... who knows? Was a really neat opportunity to talk to yet another original owner of one of these Yenko supercars... nothing quite like talking to someone who has owned and cared for one of these things for 5 years longer than I have even been on this planet! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Another cool thing that Moses said was that after he totaled his 67 Chevelle SS 396 he went shopping for his next car in 4/71 at a number of dealers. He went to Holtz Motors in Hales Corner, WI, Nickey in Chicago, and Fencl Tufo Chevrolet in Chicago before "settling" on the Deuce! He said he had never even heard of Yenko before buying the car and only bought it because after he beat the salesman Mr. Polanski up on price he was walking when Mr. Polanski finally aggreed to take Moses offer of $3600 before he hit the door and was gone forever! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

Re: Original and 2nd owner of Yenko Deuce YS-024/SCR8

We've been onto this car for years, and Steve got it done last Wed. morning! What an awesome car, a true time capsule. Original owner, original paint, original drivetrain, POP, inventory sheet, etc... Gus wouldn't let me lift the cover until Steve got there, but once it was out of the trailer I pulled the back seat out looking for the broadcast sheets https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif

Moses is an absolute wealth of info, and I've been soaking up his history lessons for several years now. Moses is also quite an accomplished scratch golfer, and was also a professional baseball player in his younger days. The Yenko Deuce was popular with African-Americans, no fewer than 4 (possibly 6) purchased them new. It has been a pleasure getting to know yet another original deuce owner.

As we were unloading the convention center Sat. evening, I noticed a man with a ziplock baggie and a pic of a Nova's front-end. I inquired, and knew who it was immediately. It was the original owner of a Silver deuce that was totalled in '73-4 in southern IL. We spoke for quite a while, and when we do the info exchange thing, I'll post the pics of his Deuce - he only owned it for 4 months, but retains the paperwork, a lesson for those hunting for their original paperwork! BTW, it had whitewalls when new - but received GoodYear Polyglas' within the first 100 miles, along with other speed parts.

Somebody needs to go back to Sunday School, Moses was not with the Ark - that would be Noah. Moses is indeed in the account of the 'burning bush', 10 Commandments, 40 years of wandering, etc... Here's your trivia question: What is significant about Enoch? One of only two people to be known for this?

Enoch had a son named Methuselah, the longest living man in the Bible, and he in turn had a son named Lamech. It's intriguing and curious because this Lamech, like Enoch, was the second person to have this same name. The first Lamech was in the line of Cain, and would likely have been contemporary with Enoch#2. The situation begs the question: Why would anyone choose to copy the name of a murderer or the son of a murderer?

Just these two in the generations leading to Noah! Though many names appear similar, ONLY these two (Enoch & Lamech) are exactly alike.

Steve, I'd be interested in following your progress with this car. I know that it will not be restored, but I imagine it will be cleaned up or rejuvenated a bit without disturbing its originality. Please keep us posted or post pictures of the preservation of this car. It would be interesting to follow. Great find.

It is also nice to see Dale Chev getting some well-desrved recognition. If you were in the Milwaukee area it was THE place to go for a Hi-Perf Chev in those days. ZL1s, L72s, JL8 Z/28s, all in stock. They were known to have done a few conversions; their '68 "Dale Duster" 427 Nova is still around. They ended up racing ZL1 #7 as "L'il Brother Hugger"
The main building had a second smaller showroom full of lo-mile vintage Corvettes.

When I drive past the site [now a grocery store] I wish I could turn back the clock.

Mr.Sandlin,What a time capsule you have purchased.I walked all around that car at the show amazed at the originality of it.I kind of have a story like yours about hunting down a car.I worked with a guy that has [I havent put my eyes on it yet] a 69 Yenko Nova 427 4-speed car that his uncle bought new.He drove it to work one night and I thought it was a Ralley Nova from as far away as I saw it.So there is hope to find "undiscovered cars" out there. The car is within 300 or so miles from me.But I am still hunting for it.Anyway sweet car just the way it sits. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/headbang.gif

Marlin, Clary, Schonye, and others on this board knew about this Nova long before me, so I take no credit for hunting it down...it just fortunately happened that my pitch had the right timing and circumstance for Moses to part with it. Special thanks to Marlin for introducing me to Mo a couple weeks ago. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

A good scrubbin, brake repair, hood tach repair, front seat cover repair and new tires are the only planned changes between now and SCR9.

Thanks for the kind words guys https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Most of Dales' Hi-Perf cars also received a 2nd dealer emblem. Styled after the Z/28/LT-1 rocker cover emblem it read "Dale Hi-Performance" I believe. I had one; gave it to Ron Normann. I owned 2 orange/orange houndstooth Z/28s sold new there; one was JL8. They also sold an orange/orange houndstooth COPO.

Glad you guys liked the documentation show, a lot of that stuff has never been seen before. It takes a bit of time to figure out the significance (if any) of each piece of paper that is found, and determine where it fits in the puzzle.
