67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
Does the core support in this auction look like a NOS piece. Should the GM sticker have a bar code on it? Looks pretty new to me. The reason I ask is because I'm bidding on it and want to make sure it's legit. Thanks Richard Core support

Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
Yes, core support is legit. NOS doesn't mean it is 35 years old. That piece was made before they discontinued them from GM and the sticker is correct for the year it was made before being discontinued.

Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
We bought a similar unit for our Z28.
We're very happy with it. |
Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
Keep in mind there were several revisions to 67-69 core supports, and an NOS piece is not necessarily identical to the factory installed piece... depending on the level of restoration you are doing, you may want to take this into consideration. In any case, any GM piece is better than a repro.

Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
Joe is correct with this. We spent a considerable amount of time studying Jerry M's book. Also, numerous questions were answered here.
Good Luck, email me if you need addition help. |
Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
For that item you might as well buy the repo, as it looks exactly the same... including the "wrinkly" look to the front side of the upper bar.

Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
I disagree, there a few noticable differences between the repop and GM piece. Especially where the holes are located for the rubber radiator insert washers. Plus some repops are drilled incorrectly for the washer bottle and the regulator.
For correctness go GM, for who cares and it's a driver go repop. Rick H. |
Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
I'm gonna try and restore the 68 Z28 that I just bought as correct as I possibly can. I bought Jerry MacNeish's book and it's been really neat to read what the correct parts are supposed to be, then go look at the car and find that it has the correct one. I actually was bidding on two core supports and won the other one. It looks like an earlier version and the sticker has no bar code.

Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
Ricks First Gen has the radiator core support, original GM tooling, for $249.95
SM-11 or a quality import for 89.00 |
Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
I had seen those but still wanted to use NOS. Maybe it's my imagination, but the original on the car doesn't seem to be as wrinkled as the newer replacements.

Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
That one you pointed to on e-bay was just as wrinkled...
A metal worker or a person with some patience can easily straighten it out... I straightened mine out... BTW... my original one was a little bit wrinkled... and it looked original... |
Re: 67-69 NOS radiator core support question?
That's what I meant, even the newer NOS looked more wrinkled. I made the mistake of bidding on two at once and ended up winning both, even though I paid $150 less than several others did last month. One is newer NOS, one is older NOS. The older NOS one looks more like my original with less wrinkles.
