67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
http://cgi.ebay.com/Chevrolet-Camaro-SS-...1QQcmdZViewItem
I thought the L-78 was only available with a 4 speed transmission in 1967. Looks like a rare car. Paul 69 Camaro SS L-78 |
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
Yes it is a light restoration. 3600 Miles?? PTB was on doghouses not on firewall in 67, no HEI until 74, Deluxe door trim missing on the interior door panels ...... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif
Real? All 375 HP's that are known are 4 speeds. No Vin#-- no Trim tag info? Who knows. Looks good with the Jet. Phil |
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
That looks like the car the Chev Connection out of Portland sold at the Silver auction in Scottsdale a couple years ago...
|
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
I kinda remember some of the pace cars being modified for the track. Maybe this was a 325hp version upgraded? I'm not a pace car guy, but I think there's more to the story.

Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
That's the same seller that had the Yenko and COPO listed a week or so ago. He also has a RA IV Judge and a 54 Vette listed.

Original paint.... is he kidding?
This guy did the right thing by investing in cars when he did, but either he's dumb or playing dumb when it comes to his cars. |
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
was an Auto/L78 combo even available in 67.?
|
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
I don't think it was available till '69 except on a few COPO Novas in '68.
|
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
It is possible the car is legit, but was converted to an auto at some point in time. I suspect the owner is not nearly as knowledgeable as many of the board members. Although he certainly does has good taste in cars, and planes for that matter.

Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
The car is bogus. Should have 4 speed, doesn't have power disc brakes, No chrome interior trim. 1968 deck lid. I guess you could call that a light restoration. To many wrong things to be real! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif
No such thing as Air Spoiler Package in 1967. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bs.gif Someone is in for a screwing. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif Rick H. |

Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
You notice on all the ads he has the information is very scant. No vins, vague info, poor history, etc., it almost seems like someone is selling them for him. Eg. maybe a bank?. You would think that if he's selling off his collection that he would know what he would have to put in an ad to appeal to the buying collectors?? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible

Look at the current bidder. He has "0" feedback. These fake auctions are getting to be very obvious.

Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
The car is a real pace car, its one of the 06C Canadian built cars with the 0-1 paint code. The VIN is 124677N236170, if its the same one that was at Barrett Jackson in 2003 (how many other 67 L78/TH400 pacecars could there be). The car was originally an LF7/PG car, as all 10 of the small block pace cars made for Canada in June were 327 RS cars, not L48 RS/SS cars. If the owner F'ed it up by putting a fake trim tag on it, that's just too bad.

He is trying to pass it off as an original L78 pace car,It's up to $73,000,this is counterfeiting and has to stop.

Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
Heres the same info I posted on Camaros.net:
Tag info added to the auction, no picture of it though: VIN 124677N236170 O5A R 67-12667 NOR136896 732-Z O-1 D2MG 3SL 4K 5Y- Don't know what this means maybe the stock number whan it was sold by MotorCity MOTOR 1CTY 10W302354 It definately has a repro tag, interior and exterior codes are correct, as are most of the options but the body number is way to high for an 05A built car. So it probably is the correct body number on a repro tag with the build date changed and 4K added. 1 = Chevrolet 2 = Camaro 4 = 8-cylinder engine 67 = convertible body 7 = 1967 model year N = Norwood, OH assembly plant 236170 = vehicle serial number sequence Decode for body number: 136896 05A = Built the First week of May. (CHANGED BUILD DATE) 67-12667 = Custom Interior Convertible. NOR = Built in Norwood Ohio. 732 = Custom Bright Blue Bucket Seats. Z = (A50) Strato Bucket Seats. O-1 = Lower Color is SPECIAL PAINT and the Convertible Top Color is White. R = Interior paint is Bright Blue Options: 1D = (C06) Power top convertible 2M = (M35) Powerglide Transmission 2G = (D55) Console front compartment 3S = (Z23) Interior Decor group 3L = (Z22) Rally Sport Package 4K = (L78) SS 396 (ADDED CODE) 5Y = (A39) Belts All Deluxe - = Special Order/Fleet Code Heres the original options the car came with: A39 B37 B93 C05 C06 D55 D91 F41 J50 LF7 M35 N30 N40 N61 PW6 P02 U25 U26 U28 U35 U63 V31 V48 Z22 Z23 Z87 The car had a 396 700R4 trans and 4.10 gears in early 2003 and then showed up at BJ Scottsdale with the L78 later in 2003. Don't know when the tag got swapped. |

So let me see if I follow you because somewhere here you about lost me. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif
Someone took a real Pace Car (and a very rare one to boot) and made a fake Pace Car out of it???? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif WTF... I got to think that the 1 of 10 Canadian 327 Pace Car would be worth more then that fake Pace Car! Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
Jeff,
-------Just went on your website and really liked it. Very informative! Great pics! Loved your Vettes! Am I really seeing a 63 red roadster with blue interior??? If so was that the original combo??? Must be one of a kind. Sorry for the minor hi-jack. I couldnt help myself!.........Bill S |
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
Hi guys, just too add my 2 cents in on this. If you look at the pics the car has pdb but the center caps read cmd, not pdb there is a camaro emble on the glovebox door never seen one on a 67 and heres the best part look at the gauges (gas and speed)they are silver and shiny like the 68's. Theres more but i type too slow. I like reading your comments on the e-bay cars they have been very insightful. thanks aw

Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
Just noticed something else after looking at Jeff's car (a very nice car) shouldn't the seatbelts also be blue? Man this is sad. What if the owner does not realize any of this, or found out and trying to unload.
|
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
Man, this thing is up to $75,000 already. I wonder if these bidders are educated about Camaro's and what to look for. Reading some good reference books and talking to knowledgeable people could save them some money down the road.

Just because it has a power booster doesn't mean it has power disc brakes. The master cylinder is clearly for a drum brake car and it doesn't have the proportioning valve. And yes the gauge package is for a 68 as well as the glove box door and the deck lid and on and on and on. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif They couldn't even get the wiper motor installed correctly. I have a former owner to thank for that. The car is really Silver Blue metalic, with Dark blue interior. A real shame, because the car was 100% original, except a dealer got a hold of it in the mid 90's and put this crappy red paint right over the original color.(Resale Red?) I will restore the car someday, and put it back. But for now it is the only car I can really enjoy. I drive it to work a few times a week, and every weekend. I even park it on the street at the Bar scene in Ft. Lauderdale. Don't really worry about chips, or stuff like that. I know, that when I paint the car, I would no longer drive it as much as I do. anyways, The paint really looks much better in the pictures than it really is. There is nothing I can do to "little Red" That hasn't been done 1000 times. Thanks for Asking! Jeff https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif |
Re: 67 L-78 Pace Car Convertible
As far as the ebay car goes - It's a mess.
Many of the engine componets don't look right. And you know: - "If they couldn't get the big stuff right" I can only imagine what you would see if you look real close. Heck - The interior is 3 different colors? |
