Wow - that is a special car! Color is way cool. Although the engine bay looks quite nice now - don't agree with their choice to restore it as the original condition is now lost https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif . I understand the urge, but considering the unique low mileage car that this is they shld have held off. Enjoy seeing the correct markings and other flaws that are missing in most restorations today. Were these chrome valve covers optional/available for 68? Thot they would be painted same as engine block. Would be happy to have this puppy in my stable to be sure https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif .

The thing I like about it is the picture of the rear right spring area. If you look at above and to the left of the spot welds holding the valance and the innter panel together you will see #s. Stamped from the inside out those #s are the id #s that are on the build sheet for that car. Nobody mentions putting the rear spoiler on it.

I love that color. My dad had a 68Z the same color. I've been trying to locate it for some time but keep coming up empty. Last known location was in Richmond, and the car was black.

I never noticed that stamping before so I went out and looked at my car and sure enough there it is. They must relate to the sheetmetal build week like the markings in the corners of the quarters and in the deck lid. Yes,they are correct for the SS 350 and the 302 Z along with the Vette. These are a ONE year only valve cover and are very tough to find.Each cover is marked with a O between the bolt holes on the intake side mounting flange.There are two different part numbers for these covers,right and left.The 68 painted covers also have the O, but are often difficult to see due to a ton of paint.I have several sets of NOS covers and a few std. painted ones for comparison.Note: the later service parts don't seem to carry the O ..........

Rick, If you have the build sheet to your car that# will be the same as the ID# on that sheet.

Kim,
No build sheet, Norwood car.

The sheetmetal on my car has a lot of factory stampings. Each quarter is stamped in the corners, deck lid is stamped, fenders have stampings in them. All my springs have original tags, and like the car mentioned here I still have the tape under one subframe bushing that held it in place.

The problem I see with this 68 SS is that I highly doubt it will be allowed to be judged in any unrestored class. Some of the markings and other parts look way to good to be unrestored.
One other thing that I see that is missing from this beauty is some sort of ducumentation. There is no mentoned or pictures of any paperwork. You would think with that low miles and the history of this car there would be some paper work like window sticker, protect-o-plate, anything. That would really sell this car.

But I got to say it is one beautiful car and the new owner should be very happy with it. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Nice paint and interior, but not a survivor.
The engine (and components) and trans and replaced rear were restored. The subframe was restored. Steering parts (with a repainted steering box) look original, other than that the undercarriage is restored.

So you're saying the body # is stamped on that rearend seam? Do you have another pic of one? Never heard of that before. Here is a shot of my tail panel and although I can not make it out that clearly, it doesn't seem to be the same as my body number. I still think it is a sheetmetal date code just like the quarters and fenders.

Kurt the # I am talking about is on the broadcast I think it is the 2nd item listed after the production date it's under id # on the sheet.Kim

I thought the SS cars got the J-52 power front disc barakes standard. Maybe that was in 69?

Paul, the J52 pwr disc brakes were standard in 69 on all SS cars. The manual drum setup was standard in 67-68 which is not a bad system on a small block car but it ain't no fun in a big block!

Kim, I have both Body and Chassis Broadcast Copies for 67-68 Camaros and I do not see what number you are referring to. There is one that is referred to as the IDENT. NUMBER on the Chassis Broadcast and it is after the vin. Is this the one you are talking about?...........RatPack.............

I've seen a original date stamp on the frame, it was a different font and in school bus yellow though.

That's the one the ID#. I had a 67 RS-SS vert I found that # By accident. It was a LA car. I had two body broadcast sheets to it. The sheet was on the 2nd page of International Camaro club's magine. the March/April 1991 issue. Donna Crispino put it in there. Also the car was in the Jan/Feb 1992 issue. Kim

I never knew the tail panel had that stamp. I have 2 68's an LA and a Norwood Camaro that I just looked at, and both have the stamping. I can't imagine that number tieing into the car in anyway. It has to be some sort of date code. I just changed the body bushings on the LA car and I remember pulling that piece of tape off and throwing it away. Woops. I will check the Norwood car and see if it is still there as the original bushings are still there. And Rick thanks again for the help last night with the 70 Z/28

Bill, you're welcome. The car is question is made up of about 4 different cars. The trim tag doesn't match the car or VIN, the motor doesn't match the car, the wheels are painted later model, the interior is out of a later model 2nd gen. The body is a wreck and needs a total restoration including every panel replaced including the roof.
