On a serious note is that where they are usually found?

The winning bidder in May is now the seller.

It's interesting that that the build sheet was not listed in the above listing from May. Also the mileage went from aprox 30K in May to 72K now. Even the pics in the two ads looks like there in the same location.

What difference does it make, a 35 year old peice of paper is not suppose to look brand new, even brand new paper 35 years ago didnt look like that...

Just for my own knowledge. I am looking to buy a 70 chevelle and have never found a buildsheet. so just wondering if this is where i would look if i ever find a car.

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

Yes,that is one area to look for one,but I have never seen one all laid out & open like that there.
I usually find them rolled or folded up tighter and snuggled up against the seat frame/springs with a Hog Ring or two.

1970ChevelleSS 08-22-2005 06:51 PM

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

Thanks mr70 so I would have to pull back that sheet of fabric and it would be under there. That explains why 2 cars i have looked for a buildsheet had that fabric all cut up around that area.

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

Carmen,
A lot of where you may find the build sheet will have to do with what plant it was built in. If you can tell me what plant it is, I can direct you where to start your search so as to help you narrow it down and not tear the whole car apart looking for it.

Also, in most cases you should not have to pull back fabric, simply remove the seat and flip it over.

On my L78 camaro I can feel a piece of paper on the passenger side of the gas tank, when I run low on gas Ill drop it and see if its a build sheet or some sort of sticker..

If the buildsheet is there Sam, I would consider not selling it, since the value will increase with paperwork. JMO

Unfortunatley the hobby is now a profit model for the entrepreneurial.I have little pity for those who get burned purchasing anything without doing the proper due dilligence-the facts are out there(internet) you just need to do the research. This member base has the sharpest cats in the hobby lurkin around..rarely does a car come across here that isn't pretty much exposed or validated(lots of egos keeps it real honest;)It would be great to have some sort of SYC certification that potential owners could recieve prior to purchasing a car..it would potentially save someone heartache and $$,and provide additional revenue to fund the website costs.

Just a thought

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

Well said. One problem is the hurry-up nature of most deals. While you're taking the time to research a car some other guy might come in and grab it. Yeah, it might be a fake but it might be the real thing and the other guy's coming to look at the car later today and he says he really wants it. Better hurry or it'll be gone.

1970ChevelleSS 08-22-2005 10:17 PM

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

I agree people should do there research. But i guy like me who has never seen a real buildsheet or pop has a harder time spotting a fake. Also it has been mentioned on this site that some of this stuff is getting harder and harder to tell if fake or not. I guess if i ever find a car I will have to see if i can pay mr70 to come out and look at it for me.

The owners of this site should really think about your idea. I bought my car sight unseen, cept for pics, and slept every night like a baby til it got here a month later. The fact that 3 members had owned the car and other members who knew the car e-mailed and talked to me on the phone made the decision pretty easy. And I'm the world's biggest skeptic.

I'll have to post a picture of the build sheet for my ls6 that was in the lower rear seat,it's looks about like the one in question, but I know that mine is real. Just because a sheet is in great shape does not mean that it's a fraud. What else is going on with this sheet/car that I missed?

I would like to see that buildsheet removed from the car for closer inspection. I have some that are in great condition without any tears or holes but they all have either been stained, yellowed, or some sort dirt has accumulated on them. The one I have for my 83 MCSS is not in that good of condition and it was under the rear seat. Other than this new piece of paper he has there is no proof that the car is a original SS. It has a 71 motor, a 72 Pontiac trans, and rocker panel moldings which were not part of the SS package after 1968. Does anyone have a buildsheet from a base Malibu from 1970-72? Curious to see what the option code is for the lower rocker panel moldings............RatPack..................

Nice codes Scott! Door frame molding, body side and possibly drip rail moldings on a non v/t car with the ZJ5 option? 733 custom buckets = nice combo, https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

I owned a 70 Chevelle SS396 back in 1979-had 2 buildsheets in the same place as this one. Even back then the sheet was yellowed! I took one before I sold the car for $550-still have one copy of the build sheet though! Bought it in 79 for $600 and drove it for a year and sold it for $550. 396 350 hp bench seat 4 speed with 3.31 12 bolt-all cowl stuff was there along with lots of rust.

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

That's a seat trim sheet.
Try looking for the buildsheet behind the door & rear panels-behind seat backs-under package tray cardboard-inside Headliner & ear muffs-under both Ft. & Rear seat buns-top of Gas tank-under carpeting-under floor sound deadner-under the dash & dashpad-taped to top of the radio-kick panels-engine the compartment wheel wells to fender area too.

scott s 08-26-2005 07:16 AM

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

Thanks ill check those areas ,i have the body broadcast sheet which was found in the front fender well area and looks like one from a la built car. Will the build sheet be cut in half like the rest that i have seen posted here???

Mr70 08-26-2005 07:30 AM

Re: WOW! Check out this buildsheet.

I haven't seen any Kansas Leeds Plant Buildsheets cut in half.
Framingham Mass. plant is where some were razored into a 1/3rd during seat construction.
