....time slip, thats is!! How many of you still have time slips from your car from the 70's? POST EM! Who's got that quickest? AND..you gotta be honest! Here are 2 from when my car was raced as "Quarter Mile High" by the dealer in Maumee, Ohio. 11.49 @ 117 ain't to shabby for a SS back then. Even though I race Super Comp on the 8.90 index at 165mph...my heart is always with the Super Stocks. "Sherwood Allen & Ken Montgomery, are you listening" (a private on-going chatter)

This was for my Nova...started life as an inline 6 with a powerglide and 10 bolt...became a 402ci big block chevy with 8.5 to 1 compression...Crane Fireball cam...Edlebrock Torker 2-0...3310-2 Holley...cheapo Blackjack headers...Turbo 350 with an Art Carr shift kit...3:73 posi taken from a 1969 Z/28 that was totalled.

The car ran on unleaded gas (with octane booster), thru the mufflers on L60-15 tires. Pictures were taken at the Street Machine Nationals West-Pomona in 1981

Man, thats a nice looking Nova. The stance is sweet..BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: S-cuse me...You slip is showing....!

Thanks Brian...

The stance was due to the original 6 cylinder springs (3/4 of a coil removed) and shocks in front and home fabbed one inch metal lowering blocks in the rear. Man, that car was fun!

Re: S-cuse me...You slip is showing....!

These are from early '71. The car weighed 3960 on the dot. The engine was a stock (new) '69 396 L-78. D/MP ran 10.00lbs/CuIn. The car ran FAR off the record, but it was fun, and it actually won a few trophies. This isn't the quickest time slip. E-town had a machine in the time slip booth that wrote (or tried to) everything the person in the tower wrote. Modern technology for the time, but sometimes you couldn't even read your time.

Thanks!
I see you're from joisey too. Our club is having an event later this month down at Barnegat Bay. We're bringing the old Chevy cars to the NJ Speed Skiff/Garvey boat races. A lot of the boats are of early vintage with the same early Chevy motors in them. We get to park in the "pits" and compare Chevys........some with rudders, some with wheels.

Let me know if you're interested in joining us. That goes for any other joisey boyz.

Vern where and when is this race????
A friend of mine Dave Greenlaw used to race a skiff called "Very Cherry" (JS-99). He was World Champ for a few years. I rode with him a few times, What a Freaking Blast that was. I had to check my shorts when we docked. EVERYBODY stopped what they were doing to watch when they put the skiffs in the water to run. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif
It's been a long time since I have been to watch them.
Jeff, We can take the Big Car down. Put it back togeather and lets go shake the cob webs off of it.

Re: S-cuse me...You slip is showing....!

The date is Sun. Aug. 27th at the Municipal Docks in Barneget on the bay. When I get good directions, I'll PM you. If anyone else is interested, send me a PM so I don't forget to get back to you.

Keep in mind that the event is very weather dependant. They won't race if it's raining or if the bay is too choppy. We're going to try and set up a special safe area for the cars, near the boats. Plan on arriving about 10am.

Well, I've succeeded in leading another thread astray.......sorry https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif Let's see some more early time slips! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif

you know what the amazin part is with these time slips is? BWAG of this forum DROVE THE CAMARO on his 16th Birthday back in 1969! The 11.49 slip was, according to him "on the Brakes too! (see the 117 miles per hour) According to Bob when they raced in in SS/DA it's best was a 11.20 at 124 mph. HEY BOB.......jump in here....we wanna, at least me, hear more about ET Slips on "Ol Yeller" Bob...I'm eternally grateful for your contribution about the car's history! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

It was my 19th birthday 1968 when we serviced the yellow car and I put it sideways in the street on the 1-2 shift for the first of a lot of fun 1/4 mile rides!!The pic is from 1970, notice the 11.19 dial in on the windshield.

My oh my.....11.19 Camaro buzzin' around town, like yesterday terrorizing the people on the streets of Mt Laurel & Moorestown, NJ

So...with Deb in the car, this guy pulls up to me at the intersection of Rt 38 & Ark Road with a brand new Z06 Corvette from Classic Chevrolet in Moorestown (take the sticky tag off, dude!). Nice car ~ love those headlights! (love my T-3's more)https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Now, you'all know that I'm a quiet, conservative and still recovering-from-a-heart-attack kinda guy....especially with my wife riding along. So...this guy is revving and looking over at me and she's says, "Hey Jeff, don't do it.....I'm serious!" Now, Rt 38 is 3 lanes each way where we were and I already passed a cop who was going the opposite direction soooo......the light goes green and, like a good Super comp racer, I cut a least .410 light but let the guy get in front of me a bit........ I BLEW PAST HIM SO FAST at the top of second gear, I think he s**t himself with the noise from this Rat!

Needless to say, Deb was steaminnnnnn for a minute or so but then said "Jeff....you really love doin that, huh?" I said, Deb.....when I go outta this world, I wanna be on the Rev Limiter in front of the other guys fender!

Bob......I know about getting sideways this Camaro! WHAT AN ANIMAL! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif

So...getting back to the topic...I guess I'm in the lead on best E.T.'s huh????
