Tranny Question
Would it really hurt the value or basic originality to a car if you put a M20 gearset into your m22 trans?
|
Re: Tranny Question
Why take a good box apart? I would just do a M20 for the car and take your original out and put it away.(JMO) I have a spare, fresh M20 on the floor, just to lazy to swap my original M21 for it. I need Mark, Darren, or Dan to be my neighbor. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Sam

In your case, I'd suggest you box up the old gears and provide them to the new owner if you should sell it. My L78 velle came with 3.73 gears in the rear, but POP and BS called out 4.10. 4.10 came with the car when I bought it. I returned them to the rear shortly after purchase as that is what I wanted. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/laugh.gif Sam |

Re: Tranny Question
Maybe he wants a lower first gear and doesn't want to change his rear. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Tranny Question
Good Question Sam. Just swap away. Who is going to look at numbers? or casings? Unless your going to be showing a car Nationally in which number verification is keen, go for it. If your going to drive your car(s), take all numbers matching parts out, throw them in a corner of your garage and drive without worry.

I was going to put the M20 low 1st gear in, coupled with the 4.11 posi rear it may be a little quicker...Im currently running an LT-1 with 11-1 pistons, worked 202 heads, chevy off road cam, edelbrock tm1 manifold, holly 780 carb,Unilight ignition, Alumicoat headers and 4.11's...anyone try a combo like this and see the difference? I was thinking of 456 gears but the tranny change will make the difference...I decided that I will never sell this car so having pure originality really wont matter..Maybe I will just put the tranny away and build the one I want to try... |
Re: Tranny Question
Thats a 12 flat car with 9" tires and open headers. Should run around 112 mph. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I put a set of Crane Roller Rockers on the heads and back then that was state of art technology for street racing.. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif |
Re: Tranny Question
Your close Long Beach Island man. The tarantula will work and a set of 88's I think will put you solidly in the 11:75-80 range. Maybe at 115mph. I don't think the carb is hurting you. I ran a 750 D.Pumper in the old days. 90/10 shocks front and 50/50 in the rear will help. Remember many stock eliminator cars run a Q-jet and go into the 10's with a hydraulic lifter 350. Don't need anything radical just the right combination. Hows your valve springs? Sam

Re: Tranny Question
Triple valve springs, heads are worked, done by Airflow research back in 81, With the unilight and springs I havent found the top yet, this motor screams, also underdriven pullys by 50%(Cant sit and idle for too long with this and flex fan)The MV guys use to really piss me off in the old days, they would make me sit there for emission testing and when the temp started to come up i would shut her down and make them wait, then they would fail me and I would come back later with open headers and inside there metal building it would echo and blow there ear drums out, then I would fail again and just wind up blowwing off inspection for the 20.00 dollar tickets..ahh the good old days https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif
