COPO Camaro in NY sale info

Is anyone familiar with a Hugger orange restored COPO Camaro supposedly sold this past week in the Buffalo NY area? It's the car shown around with 15" painted wheels/small caps ?????????????? that owner says is correct. (so there you have it......thats why XT wheels are so hard to find..........you guys thought they were 14") Anybody know this car/history/new owner ?

Re: COPO Camaro in NY sale info

This car has been shown around quite a bit in the Western NY area by the owner of the past year or two. Has anyone else here even seen this car ? It is always displayed with the original (Ahem....) typewritten window sticker. Hugger Orange, Black Std., no Vinyl Top, painted 15" wheels and small caps, strong cosmetics. Anybody seen it ?

Rick, we await your input.

There was a Hugger orange Copo for sale earlier this year or late last year on e-bay that had some ??? marks. Don't know if the car ever sold. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif.

I have seen the car and I have looked it over. Pretty darn close if I might add.

I would rather say as little as possible but will say that if it is the car I am thinking of, then I would keep looking for a more hmmmmm, uhhhhh, correct COPO. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Lets just say this is (ahem) not the car you looked at. What do recall as questionable on the car you did look at "pretty damn close" ? I have no further questions your honor.

Ok, let's say it was not the car I was looking at. To answer your question. The car!

It is probably safe to say that more then one person has bought a fake COPO and that people will continue to buy fake COPO's whether they know it or not.

Rick, Either you are an attorney or you are an attorneys worst nightmare witness on the stand. C'mon, your're killin' us.............what gives with this car? I am assuming from the fact you jumped in with your intriguing post originally, that you are an innocent witness and not an accomplice. ( No your honor, I am not badgering the witness)

Ok you made me laugh. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif

I direct you to your opening statement and I quote, "It's the car shown around with 15" painted wheels/small caps ?????????????? that owner says is correct." https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif

And if we were talking about the same car, said vehicle had more markings then a kindergartner chalkboard?

I rest my case!

Rick H.

P.S. Was there ever a COPO made with an X33 trim tag? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: COPO Camaro in NY sale info

Interestingly, the X-33 tag was my first question when I saw the car. To answer your question in the previous post: Not that I am aware of. Any other opinions out there on X-33 COPOs ?

Re: COPO Camaro in NY sale info

George,
How about a Copo that had it's tag changed to X33 to make it a "Z28"! There was such a car at Indy years ago. William knows the car. I'm not sure of color, etc. The car was part of the Glockner Chevy Copo order. William, what do you remember?

So you saw that as well? My question was to see if anyone else saw the same trim tag. Which obviously others have. I have NEVER heard of a Z/28 COPO.

I really hope the person who bought the car understood what it REALLY was.

I think the 69 Z/28 COPO was a convertible.

I saw this car at a show Saturday. Looking at the information displayed around the car I would not think the car had a new owner. The hood was only at open a little, but lots of different color markings on the components.

Hi Mark

I saw the car at SC Indy 2001. It was Le Mans blue with a repo X33D80 tag. Had DZ motor but way too early for the car.

Based on body number [assuming it was correct] virtually had to be a Glockner COPO.

Interesting, every time I have seen the car at shows the hood is only open to "select" interested individuals. "select" meaning.."what kind of car is this, mister??".

I am curious about the show plaque he shows. Was the verification section still shown on the board??

Wait do I remember this car from a few years ago? I think we discussed it and called it out as a clone. Then if I remember correctly the fellow's daughter joined the site to explain about the car. Anyone remember this?? I remember seeing the car on the stands with all the mirrors.

Rick H 08-03-2005 04:47 PM

Re: COPO Camaro in NY sale info

I believe that was a different clone.
I remember that post as well. Something about the trim tag was removed during the restoration and the wrong one was installed then the correct was found and installed.
Something along that lines.

Re: COPO Camaro in NY sale info

There was just four 8x10 signs laying on the grass in front of the car Saturday. I didn’t look real close after reading the posts here last week. One sign said it was 1 of 44 COPO's after listing where the others were delivered to. No pictures. The owners name was on the show card that was on the dash and also on a business card that looked like it had been there awhile. That was my reason for thinking the car had not been sold recently. The hood was only opened half as far as in the posted picture.

I believe at one point the owner was asked to remove the verification from his signs.

Also I have not heard of this car being sold.

I remember this car.
It's 9N616345 (also is on the fake verification). Lots of BS on those signs.
If anyone gets a trim tag pic, I'd be interested.

Re: COPO Camaro in NY sale info

BS is right. Peeeeee Yewwwwwwwwwwww!

Makes for some great reading. COPO 9737?? I don't see any 15" rally's on the car. When I viewed the car it had some late model steel painted wheels with a code I can't remember.
