meanest supercars....
Of all the 60's and 70's supercars, who built the biggest, baddest and fastest of all !! Your opinions please !! thanks ! steve https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smirk.gif
|
Re: meanest supercars....
Don't know if they were the biggest, baddest or fastest, but Yenko definitely built the coolest.
|
Re: meanest supercars....
Somebody here will remember the details, but in the mid to late 60s C&D ran a great story on a lightweight Dodge Coronet Hemi. The writer drove from Mich. to CA. I'll never forget that article or at least the fact that I read it 10 times. Might have been a '65. That is the one I remember.

Re: meanest supercars....
Motion Performance - Example: 1969 BM SS454 Camaro, 1 of 1
|
Re: meanest supercars....
My vote is for the Baldwin Motion Phase III cars...toughest looking and toughest on the pavement - - and they came with a money back performance guarantee!!!
|
Re: meanest supercars....
I think the coolest, meanest and badest are those Motion Phase III Second Generation Camaros. Yenkos to me are muscle cars with class and pizazz, something those sloppy weld infested Motion cars lack.
But hey what do I know... just my opinion... and for the record, opinions are like a$$holes, everybody's got one. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/haha.gif |
Re: meanest supercars....
'68 Motion Camaro (specifically the MindBender) and then the 2nd generation Motion Camaro Phase III's (like Motion1's)... would have been really cool if they would have built a Phase III Maco.
Could care less about any kind of '69 Camaro's or Motion Phase III GT's, but that is just my opinion https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif |

Re: meanest supercars....
In my opinion you can't get any badder than a Dick Harrell tuned 68 COPO SS 427 Nova.
Another bad ass car is a Nickey 427 Camaro One of my personal favorites of all time is ZL1#1 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif |
Re: meanest supercars....
Either a '68-'69 B-M Nova or a '69 427 Yenko Nova. Light car with LOTS of horsepower. I thought I read that Yenko had to stop building the 427 Novas because they were, in his words, "too dangerous." (Hence, the Yenko Deuce.)

My opinion... This '73 ZLX Camaro would spank a 427 Yenko Nova https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif
https://www.yenko.net/attachments/149...onZLXCamF2.jpg There wasn't anything on the street meaner than the Motion built cars https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif as an example.. what would you call a Yenko Camaro or Nova that was bought new from Yenko, then taken to Motion Performance to have the beast unleashed? Now THAT would be the ultimate supercar https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: meanest supercars....
I have been a Chevy guy for a long time, but I dont know if I would want to put any of the above picks up against a Hurst Hemi Dart on slicks. If I were going to pick a motion car,I would think I would be hard to argue with the insanity behind a bigblock Motion built Vega.

Re: meanest supercars....
Hard to argue with a Hemi Dart. What kind of exhaust did the Hemi Dart come with stock?.

Re: meanest supercars....
Then I vote Hurst Hemi Dart with slicks to. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
|
Re: meanest supercars....
Motion was famous for it...but every big city had their shop that would build killer stuff...Hemi Darts are sure badass...so are the Mr Norm GSS 440 Darts..But I'll still take a 69 Yenko Nova and tweak it like everyone did.....that has got to be an animal...
|
Re: meanest supercars....
1. 69 ZL1 Corvette
2. 69 Yenko Nova 3. 69 Hurst SC/rambler |
Re: meanest supercars....
Gotta be MOTION. 11.50's or your money back. My '67 BM Chevelle is a good example of how bad these cars were. The car set the B/HR record at NY National Speedway (11.50 @ 123 mph) as a 2 week old car off the showroom floor. Not too shabby. It later ran 10's with the addition of a tunnel ram. That's a hell of a fast street car in 1967 or even today.

Re: meanest supercars....
Although not as well known as the others,Ray Ridge Chevrolet in Trenton Michigan took delivery of a few noteable Hi-po Chevrolets, and turned them into SUPER Hi-Po Cars.
One such car was a 1970 Chevelle LS-6,with Dealer added: Aluminum 454 block,AL. heads with Headers & AL.intake. Fiberglass front fenders,hood,Trunklid W/spoiler. Prowler Street tires,Sun Gauges,Drag shocks,and Disc Brakes deleted. & 4:88 Posi. It supposedly ran mid 10's. |

Re: meanest supercars....
Gotta go with the Hemi Dart. I got to ride along on a run in the early 70s. It did 10.5----130 mph.
Then I had to go back to my L-48 Nova.......hehehe... ktownkid |

There's one certain blue Chevy Nova that belongs to the Clary's that I think is the MOST cool,
bad a$$ car around... or Steve Sandlins 69 RS COPO https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...emlins/eek.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif to both By the way...GRB posted something about a 65 lightweight Belvedere...is this what you were talking about GRB? Re: meanest supercars....
There is only one "KING" of the supercars. The answer is...the 1968 BALDWIN MOTION, PHASE III, L-88. "IF YOU WERE TO MAKE THE PROVERBIAL PILGRIMAGE UP TO THE SUMMIT OF MOUNT MUSCLECAR IN SEARCH OF TRUTH, WISDOM AND THE MEANING OT LIFE, YOU'D PROBABLY FIND MARK HASSETT'S EXTRAORDINARY 1968 BALDWIN MOTION CAMARO, WARMED UP AND IDLING WITH THE DOOR OPEN, BECKONING YOU TO ENTER, BANG SOME GEARS, AND EXPERIENCE SOMETHING UNFORGETTABLE. THE KING! BALDWIN-MOTION PHASE III" - Musclecar Enthusiast June, 2004

Re: meanest supercars....
-There were a lot of racing programs from the factory and other Very Mean Supercars, but Motion was available to the guy on the street on a daily basis ---building cars for customers as fast or as wild as they wanted to go.-Couldn't really get any meaner than the 454 VEGA--and then the calvary was called in to put Motion back on the reservation---So for the MEANEST --You gotta go with Motion, welds and all https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/burnout.gif---This is purely an unbiased statement-- https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif

Re: meanest supercars....
My vote is #1 = '69 427 Yenko Nova, #2 = '68 Gibb COPO-Harrell converted 427 Nova.
The Motion cars just don't do it for me, overdone for the most part. I think the Yenko and Harrell cars were 'fast with class' https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |

Re: meanest supercars....
Xplant - the car I'm talking about was an ugly sleeper. Seems like in was that intermediate sized Dodge coronet. Had an aluminum grill and I think it was one of the first real write-ups about the hemi. This guy raced down Van Nuys Blvd. and blew everything away. He wrote in a way that you relived everything he did. It was great. One day I will find that article....one day.
The Hemi Dart was bad but they were no warranty not for street use weren't they? Or does it matter? |
