Opinions on trailers....
Decided to buy a trailer for hauling some the cars around. Ultimate plan is to have 2, one open and the other enclosed. Will start with open. Giving strong consideration to aluminum with a front shield. Any feedback on brands or experience would be appreciated. Would also consider a "pre-owned" unit that was in excellent condition. Thanks!!

Wilma: I've got a heck of an enclosed trailer for sale. A featherlite 34ft gooseneck w/ living quarters. This was featherlites 25th anniversary model and has all the bells and whisles. It was $82,452 in price new. Has just 2000 miles use and in excellent condition throughout. Asking 34K. |
Re: Opinions on trailers....
I know I said in previous posts that I had a Haulmark unit, but in fact I have a 24 ft Triple C (I think) unit. It is great! Not one issue.
Hauling we have been to: Rochester, MN Windsor, Canada Ocean City, NJ Hershy, PA Pittsburg, PA bi-monthly trips to Long Island... Not one problem! |

I think Larry is still wanting to sell his. It's in good shape. Hauled a Motion Vette from Tulsa, OK to Collinsville, IL and back last year no problem. Drop him a PM if you like.

Re: Opinions on trailers....
I have an H & H open tilt-bed trailer. They are made right here in Iowa and I have been extremely happy with it ! ! ! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif H & H makes these in 16', 18' and 20' lengths. Mine is a 18' trailer.
This is my rig: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...how2004002.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...how2004001.jpg This is the display that H & H trailer had at SEMA last year: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...ema2004248.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...ema2004249.jpg |

Re: Opinions on trailers....
Happy Birthday JD, Do you have anymore info on that trailer, How heavy is it? I am also looking.
My concern with open trailers is stone chips and flying STUFF, For lack of a better word. |
Re: Opinions on trailers....
I just bought a new feather Lite 18 foot open , with the wheels, front rock gaurd,4 wheel brakes, and big tire option, wieght in @ 1200 pounds, I pulled to Nashville and back last month, very nice, 1000 pounds lighter than the old steel trailer,$5500

Re: Opinions on trailers....
Mark,
Don't really remember what it weighs but when I originally bought it, weight was a big concern for me as I was going to be putting a Camaro on it and pulling it with my Dodge Dakota pickup. My Dakota with a 318 V-8 doesn't struggle pulling it. You obviously know it is back there but I have pulled my '02 ZL1 from Des Moines, Iowa to Ann Arbor, Michigan to Camaro Super-Fest, from Des Moines to La Harpe, Illinois and from Des Moines to St. Louis to the Supercar Reunion plus all the regional trips to car shows in Kansas City, MO, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, etc. For more info on the trailers go to http://www.stainlesstrailers.com/ |

This Renegade trailer rolled over 50,000 miles yesterday at the Ann Arbor Camaro SuperFest. 3rd set of brakes/tires in nearly 4 years, but otherwise factory original. You hardly know it's back there https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: Opinions on trailers....
has anyone looked into the aluminum enclosed trailers such as featherlite, ATC, TNT, etc.. I have a dakota also for my daily driver and got rid of my 3/4 ton last year and don't want to have another vehicle around just to pull a trailer so wondering if a 360 in a dakota would pull one okay.. any thoughts on these??

Re: Opinions on trailers....
Tom........I have a 24' Haulmark enclosed trailer that works perfectly for me except for one big mistake I made when I bought it was that I didn't get the extra side door that allows you to get into the car without squeezing into the narrow opening as the door travel is limited....
Ken https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif see you at the Nova Nat's |
Re: Opinions on trailers....
JD,
I see in the latest edition of Hemmings Motor News that you are giving your 69 Camaro away in some drawing? Is this your car or somebody else's? If it is, it looks just like yours. You can enter at this website. www.hhtrailer.com |

If you will look at the photos I posted above, those two photographs with the 1st gen Camaro on the trailer were taken at the H & H trailer display at the 2004 SEMA show. Sorry if I created any confusion here. The display that H & H Trailer Co. had at the 2004 SEMA show in Las Vegas was in connection with a drawing. You put your name in the hat for the trailer, the Camaro on the trailer and the '69(?) Chevy pickup hooked up to the trailer. I was never notified I won it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif Wish I did. |

[/ QUOTE ] I bought a 1 year old 20' enclosed (actually measures 20' 10" inside https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif) unit three years ago. It has a walk-in door at the right front and the access door on the drivers' side. Somewhat unfinished inside when I bought it but I've done some upgrades. It had the rock shield (alum. treadplate) on the front and chrome wheels. Price; $4K. It's served me well for hauling a '70 Chevelle, and plenty of room up front for tools, chairs, coolers, and clothes. I also have an 18' open trailer but I rarely use it anymore. Security of tools, etc. is one thing but the car is just SO MUCH SAFER in the event of BAD weather. "Old cars don't like hail!" https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif |
Re: Opinions on trailers....
I have a 24' enclosed Pace American Shadow. It's a 1999 model that I bought used. It is still as good as new. I'm very happy with it. If you go enclosed, I'd recommend a white or silver one. Those dark colors fade quickly and absorb lots of heat. Good Luck.

Oh so true. I thought it would be cool to have a Black Trailer to match the Black Car and Black Truck. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif In reality, they're ANYTHING BUT https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif ! Next time I'll probably go with Silver/Pewter. |
Re: Opinions on trailers....
Bill,
You were inquiring about aluminum trailers? Go to www.exiss.com. They feature stock/horse trailers but make an excellent enclosed car hauler. They are owned by a fellow who broke away from Featherlite and took all of his 'know-how' with him. They are the same quality as Featherlite at approximately 2/3 the cost. Happy shopping, Rich |
