|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
I thought the L79 in 67 was only rated at 325HP????
Brian |
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
1968 were 327-325 hp one year
|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
If its the one painted black now that came out of KY new the car is 100% real.
|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Try this link. The 67 L79 had a cast iron intake and it was rated at 325HP.
http://novaresource.org/production.htm It is still a very rare piece. Brian |
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Well you learn something new every day. I all ways thought they were 350 HP rated in 67. It's not like you run across one everyday. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/worship.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
I should have all the original Paperwork on Monday from GM of Canada and also the owner...I have the POP...
Sam Is GM of Canada open on Monday, I wouldnt imagine they would celebrate the 4th of July... |
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Ehhhh .... They celebrated Canada Day, yesterday I think.

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
The information I posted only pertains to US built cars. Maybe Canada still had the 350HP version in 67, which may make it even rarer!

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
We got the same engines as you guys in the Chevy IIs. A friend's '68 L79 Chevelle was quicker than another friend's '69 L34 Chevelle by 2-3 car lengths. I don't think the engine actually lost any where near 25 hp switching to the cast iron intake and Q'Jet. These were the super sleepers that most people ignored. Too bad.

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Ok, here the deal on the 67 SS L79 Nova. Contacted GM of Canada (these guys are incredible to deal with). Got the original order sheet which I attached here. The car came as a L30/M20 with F40 Heavy Duty Suspension,Posi, Ect. Motor blew during warranty and owner had an L79 (327-350)put in it.(GM is sending rest of paperwork in a few weeks so hopefully the warranty stuff will be included.) The car is as close to a 9.5 as you can get. Has dual quads and an aluminum rad in it now. Original Manifold and rad come with car...What is a roundabout of what this is worth?
|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Sam, GM Canada does not keep the warranty info so they will not be able to provide it.
|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
That sounds more like it, I was not aware of any '67 L79 Novas (325hp) coming from Canada. I believe all 6 are from the US.
Cool story, but you would probably need the warranty replacement of the L79 to document it - and justify the increased value, otherwise.... It's a cool car, drive it like you stole it https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif |
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
There are L79 Acadians, though!
|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
I am with Kim. Never saw or heard of a 325HP nova car in 67. Grumps 68 was a 325HP car with a Q-jet and iron intake. 69 vettes had a 350-350hp with a Q-jet. I didn't think they called them 325hp cars till 68. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Sam it looks like they lowered the HP for the 67 to 325 instead of 350 Hp like the 66 nova.
|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Well if you say so Kim.
|
Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Colvin's book still lists them as 350hp, with 6 built. While I have a great deal of respect for nova resource, I would politely disagree. The block codes change in 68 and reflect the intake carb hp difference. I believe there are a couple of documented 67 L79s out there. If I'm wrong, I stand corrected.

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
Now I am with Kim and Schonye! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif I am not always real crazy about books. Unless they were written in 1967. If you really want to know you can always call Grump. He supercedes any book written today in my opinion. He was THERE!

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
I believe the L79 Acadians were only in '66, not in '67. Very cool cars, would love to have one - only like 100-200 built in both SS, and hardtops?
Of the 6 1967 L79 Novas, I believe 3 are found and I believe they are 350HP versions with the alum intake and the holley, not the '68 version. I wouldn't take stuff written down back in the day as gospel though https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif You old timers were just as much a bunch of BS'rs back then as you are now https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif I recall Don Yenko writing letters to NHRA about his 500 deuces.... et al. |

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
An acadian would be a sport deluxe not an SS, they were for nova's

I am still with you and Schonye, Kim. B.S. or not!! Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
The same way that the Acadian is the canadian Nova, the Beaumont is the canadian Chevelle. The disignation for the ss is sport deluxe for both. I owned both, the beaumont was a copper 66 SD rag-top with a 283 buckets console car, nice driver. I owned 2 acadians a 66 and a 67, i've posted pictures before of my pro street acadian.

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here, but, read the third question/statement from this auction. All REAL 67 L79 Novas were 325HP versions. Colvin should revise his book to reflect this, and oh yeah he should also add Norris Technologies as a manufacturer/supplier of "XT" wheels!!!

Re: 67 SS Nova 327-350
From e-bbay auction:
Q: Maybe I can be of assistance to you in selling your car. I own a documented L79 1966 Chevy II. Check the front of the block, passenger side, for a pad with the engine suffix code. If it ends in ZG, ZH, ZI or ZJ it's an L79. Anything else is some other 327 engine. The block and head numbers you have given were not exclusive to L79s. They were used in other applications as well. 5481 is the total number of all L79 Chevy IIs (all models) built in 1966. The 6 cars built in 1967 were 325HP, had cast iron intakes, Q-jet carbs and open element air cleaners...not all like the 66's. 11637 is indeed a V/8 2 door benchseat hardtop, but the engine could be any V/8 (283, etc.). Hope this helps. You have a great looking car and should bring good dollars if it's true heritage can be sorted out. 2oldtoos Jul-15-05 A: The number ends with ZA. Thanks for your help. |
