Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle

I posted this in the COPO section a little while ago.

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Location has changed a bit also, now in Fresno Tx, 11.5 miles from Missouri, TX both right outside of Houston.
Here's the documentation he had two months ago: "I have the following for documentation ~ Owner history going back to 1975, an old appraisal report stating the possibility of being a COPO, and certificate from the entity in possession of GM Tonawanda Engine records. There will no doubt be those who do not accept this as conclusive proof, so be it, you can buy it as a date correct clone and the difference between a incorrect paint and interior real deal COPO and a very good clone isn't that much. So buy it as a date correct clone if you don't believe the records I will show the winning buyer. The key issue here is the work that has gone into this car and how nice it is compared to most of the 1969 Chevelles you see anywhere." Another POP found, someday maybe I will be so lucky... |

Another POP found, someday maybe I will be so lucky... [/ QUOTE ] That's our point here, Dave, highly unlikely that he 'found' the original POP. More likely that it's a made-up one from eBay or from the guy in Florida who advertises every month in Hemmings. |
Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Funny no booklet for the POP, no tape on the POP and about two months of rust on it.
There is just about as much POP there as you get when you get a reproduction POP right off good ol' eBay... Kinda cheapens the value of the rest of our cars that have gennie paperwork to back 'em up. |

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Bill,
I was being sarcastic, I know that all I have to do to be lucky is to put in the winning bid on e-bay for a POP, buildsheet, cowltag etc. I gotta find something to entertain myself with here in Florida till I can get back to Phoenix in a couple yrs. Dave |
Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Bill, I like your response. Did COPO Chevelles come with front disc brakes from the factory? From what I can see the master cylinder is an after market set up with no bleeders and a after market proportioning valve. I am thinking this is a complete disc brake kit that you would install on a front drum brake car. Was front disc brakes part of the SS package in 1969?

Was front disc brakes part of the SS package in 1969? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, they were. Pretty sure all COPO's had 'em, too, but I will defer to COPO experts. |

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
bill,
No prob, temporary situation, wasn't my idea. I did bring my camaro so I wouldn't go totally cold turkey. Dave |
Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
it is bains car, i checked out the chevelle forum the other day and theres been all kinds of posts again about his car. he has made several posts over there asking questions about how to get a fake pop but no one would give him the info, i guess he found out where to get them.

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
...Well at least the car has a more correct '69 style SS steering wheel on it now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4553971792 as compared to the '71-72 style SS steering wheel that was on it in the previous auction.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4540285810 ... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/crazy.gif ...
I'm sure it's worth the extra $$$ now especially with the new POP now and all... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif |

Bain responded to the thread about this auction on Team Chevelle. Here is his long drawn out response. Grab a cold one. This is gonna take a few minutes to read. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
#26 Today, 12:12 AM irongolf Tech Team Join Date: Jan 2005 Location: Houston Posts: 99 Re: Familiar COPO -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Members, I am going to respond to this, but only once, and I will probably not bother to contribute to this web site again unless directly and respectfully asked to. This whole thing started with a simple market research project, a simple question in my mind. I had seen many Yenko Replicas that were nice and if they were done right fetched a good amount of money. So I did some poking and proding of the membership to see their thoughts and reactions. My life prior to restoring cars was heavy on the R&D aspect of building products. I didn't see this as anything different. Low and behold though shooting a test sample was different than testing your collective. I'd say they are a bit on the reractionary side. BUT I DID GET TO SEE THE STATE OF THE PEOPLE IN THIS NICHE OF THE USED CAR BUSINESS. And lets be plain about this, this is the used car business. I proceeded to build my car as a date correct COPO, becasue the market research suggested COPO was the hot ticket. My assertion later on was based on a vertually unknown source of GM info at D.P.E. and I did base my cars origin as a COPO on this. Many don't belive it, some do, and at the end of the day I think a lot of the credibility is more about knowing someone really well, the type of people who like to be the shepards of a following and be known as gurus in this field. people who have taken time to work with people and be leaders like Rob Clarey, Tim LaForge, Ed Cunneen, and Alan Colvin to name a few. Mr. Long has spent his time doing other things than writing books and staring web sites. He also worked at GM like many of the above mentioned players. He is quite knowledgeable, and has a following as well. I have seen the paper Greg has, it does exist, and I have been working with him on many projects at this point. Some hate this man becasue they feel; that he is ruining the hobby. My feeling is that this isn't true. The big reason why is that I am not taking the liability on the claims here, he is! I do have a place to hang my hat and the liability of the claims I am making. Looking at the others in this guru position I see people who will not show their lists and are more than likely using their gm lists and contacts to help themselves, which was confirmed by a couple of members at Yenko.net. Perhaps a few freinds of freinds also get to benefit by their association with the leaders in the various groups I have named. And after tasting the wine I see why, you could spend forever dealing with people who want to find out about their car, while real business is banging down your door, its mostly a waste of time unless it's for your own or your friends restorations project. I have the ability at this time to authenticate your 1969 MN ME MP & MQ cars, but ask me if I want to and the answer is no unless someone makes it worth my while; I have better things to do, like what you ask? Well starting in August I wil be beginnig a new comprehensive facility for remanufacturing these cars into modern day pavement pounders that can be driven and of course restorations for real cars as they are identified. We plan to take the guess work out of this whole industry by implementing the ISO 9000 QC protocols to used parts identification and manufacturing techniques and assembly and much more. I dare say that many of you will end up being my customer. I am definately not an idiot and I will refrain from stating my opinion about Texas Tornados comments. The car I have is real, and in fact the earliest known COPO Chevelle to exist at this time. ITs a valuable car and it had a nice restoration. I have all the evidence I need at this point, while the people who resist me have nothing but I doubt it, and it just can't be coz blah blah blah, nothing significant. If we went to court those of you who say no would lose coz the perponderance of the evidence is clearly on my side. Way on my side. IF you want a response from me on anything at this point concerning my car, parts, restoration concepts I will only respond to considerate thoughtful sincere people and requests. If you sling the idiot or moron word around your only hurting yourself, and I will not respond. This thing has come full cirlce, and I am now moving into the market with many GM contacts and skilled professionals, here I come, look for my website in August! Sincerely, Al Bain |
Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Actually I think it was a good read. Unfortunately it won't matter if they use ISO 1 million ...his reputation in the "Used Car" market due to this Chevelle fairy tale will always precede him and the car... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif
|
Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
And yet nobody else has seen this "proof" or list of VIN's that the big block engines were assigned to! I still don't see how Tonawanda(I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong) would know the VIN of the car since that isn't assigned until the car is scheduled at the assembly plant.

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Well I don't think you can or I don't think that is possible. However, if you really knew Vince at the time and you were on good terms with him, maybe worked for GM and asked him nicely, he probably could have pulled the records back in the 1970's. That would be the only way. Plus I am sure vince had his own set of records on the Big Block performance cars from 1969 and 1970. So really the validity of this claim comes down to this; did this guy Greg really work for GM in the 1970's https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gifand did he know Vince Piggins real well???? Can anyone verify this???

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Who else has had a COPO Chevelle, Nova or Camaro verified by these individuals?
|
Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
No one that I have ever heard of... if fact, I've never even heard the term "D.P.E" mentioned by anyone other than Bain, ever. I think its his own private verification system. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
There is one thing that I can't understand about all this mess. If Bain's car were a real COPO and he has proof, why he he trying to sell it for less that half what it is worth. Why not show the proof and sell it for the $150k it would be worth. I know he is not the smartest person around but surely, he is not that stupid.
James |
Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Because the proof was probably on back order for a while

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
Well you know Mr. Clary all due respect to you and your club if your going to test this man it should be independantly formulated by a few people and reported on by someone who doesn't have a conflict of interest in this matter. When did you call him?? I think it's conflict of interest to report on this in the manner you have chosen, no disrepect intended just my opinion. This seems to be a really hot issue and I think it probably deserves to have completely impartial people investigate and report on it? What do you think?https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

Re: Guy is claiming a 69 copo chevelle
I could have a police freind of mine do it who has nothing to do with any of this
