1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Hi every 1 ,,
My favorite car of all time has always been the 69 pacecar,
I do have a few ???? for you and hope you can help.

1- How many pacecars were built - all engines w/breakdowns -4 sd and auto ???
2- Did they all have the orange interior
3- Did any of them come eqipped with with the pacecar decals on the sides( or was this an option )and if it was , did it appear on the build sheet / window sticker .
4- Is there a known breakdown on how many were shipped to the U.S and Canada and overseas.

Is there a registry for the pacecars that most any 1 can go and view.???

I think thats enough for now , hope you can help . Thanks

Pacecar

Thanks Lynn , went to the site , Some what confusing to look at , I think I did not learn a whole lot more than what I knew already. Maybe some pacecar owners can help me learn more about these models..
I did not know that chev did not keep alot of production number info ??? Found this a little weird.

Thanks again Lynn . pacecar

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

1- 3675 were made, no breakdown on engines and transmissions is available. Rough guess is that there are around 1000 big blocks and 2700 small blocks.

2- Yes they all had orange houndstooth interiors.

3- None of them (except the two real ones)left the factory with the decals they were shipped in the trunk and the dealer installed them if the buyer wanted them.

4- Never seen any GM of Canada info for a pacecar yet. doesn't mean none were bought in Canada just that I haven't seen the paperwork. None were shipped overseas by GM. Who knows if any private buyers did. Alledgedly Mario Andretti's car that he got for winning the race was shipped to Australia around 1975. I know of at least 2 that are in Australia right now.

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

In 1993, the United States Camaro Club released the following production figures they had for the 1969 Pace Car's:Production;;3,675, L 35, 325 hp. 120 made,...L 34, 350 hp. 36 made,...L 78, 375 hp. 87 made , ... L 89, ....6 made....It would be interesting to find out what the new registery figures are 12 years later...Please post them when you find out, I would sure like to know...thanks

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Ok, so that will support my summation of 200-300 made with the 396 , then you have to break it down by transmission! So, Mark C., where do you get your 1000 # from??? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Did you forget the previous discussion you were involved in. No one knows for sure, but several posters in the previous thread made educated observations. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/show...6/fpart/1/vc/1

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Well, Yes I do recall this. If its such a secret on Kurt's #s then why guess based on what he has listed and doc'd. I mean no disrespect to you Kurt but you must have some actual #s on your lists of what is current today. Some of us may not have our cars on a list anywhere, alike myself, so I am what: .05% of that realistic figure of of 2-300. Maybe there IS more. The Yenko site I am sure was intended for the purposes of the COPO/Yenko etc cars not to leave out the ZL1s. I suppose our hobby needs to get together and complete the task of what that USCC did to start the ball rolling on getting better figures and #s supported to all who desire this! I would offer to start a site for it; It's a matter of the time it takes to download all that info, and then as received, are we actually able to rightfully say what VIN #s received are actual, true, and not forged....Thoughts people? https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Thanx Paceme , that made for some interesting reading,, A side from the copo , Would you consider this rarest of the rare as there is no way to really tell how many were produced.
At least as far as a 100 % factory built 69 Camaros built.

Thanks again pace car

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Another question,,,was the pace car a mid year introduction,I have the can dealership catolog papers , it doesn,t list anything about a pacecar,,

Something I find a little hard to believe is some 1 said earlier that there wasn,t any known pacecars to canada or any exported models known,,,you mean to tell me that in the mean muscle car days of 69 no 1 in Canada wanted 1 of the nicest cars ever factory produced, I know there were some copo cars for Canada and a fair amount of Z28 s for Canada.
No 1 has documented a pacecar from Canada.

somethings wrong with this picture. If I wasn,t 8 years old at the time I would have ordered 1 of these.

Just my 2 cents worth guys, and keep in mind that I know like 5 percent of what some of you guys know,,,no disrespect intended to any 1 .and hope no 1 takes it that way .

pace car.

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

No, Pacecars were actually started into production I would say about January, if not December, But I doubt it! I dont think there may have been any VIN assinged until January, so I guess I myself need clarification on this.
Canada, well....I am unsure as to any Canadian entries into that race but there might have been. But I would say that the INDY 500 was an American race at that time, and I believe that this probably wasnt such a nationally devoted Replica order of the PaceCars for Canada. NOW: I MIGHT BE WRONG! Maybe we can have a short discussion on that here... https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Thanx RPOZ11 , I guess your right but I have seen a fair amount of pace cars in canada,( 80 s Camaros )
Is there a registry for Canadian Z ers /copos/and others for 67-68-69 ?????
If not we should get 1 happening , could only help with getting a better picture of what the true production numbers really are ( at least a wider vision ) ????

thanx Pacecar

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

A registry for Canadian cars, Not that I am aware of (other than the COPOS listed here on sYc)...My dates of January might also be a bit premature for VIN assignments on these, I go but my recollection on those Ive seen over the years...

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Z11 Pace Car production began on 02D, the fourth week of Feb 1969, at the Norwood, Ohio Assembly Plant. My car, VIN 610XXX was a factory display car and was built on 02D and shipped from the Norwood plant on 03/11/1969. Dealers were told of the existance of the Z11 package in mid-January 1969.

There were a number of Z11s sent to Canada. I recall looking at a 396 automatic Z11 in 2001 in Canada that had its GM of Canada documentation. I didnt buy it because it was a horrible restoration: they actually welded new quarters on top of the old ones - just horrible https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/no.gif I drove 16 hours with a trailer, took one look for about 15 seconds and turned around and drove back home, another 16 hours. I was not a happy camper at the time.

First one I know about is 02D VIN N607547, which is prior to the two real pacecars. This is what it looked like about a year ago. https://www.yenko.net/attachments/142...ight_front.jpg

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

I am trying to get my hands on the Original USCC REGISTRY. Maybe I can get with Kurt and add his to it. We had a few hundred cars, and the numbers we posted were total speculation, derived from the 10% sampling we had.
Hopefully the original registry is not destroyed.

The 1000 came from the fact I have info on 267 Z11's (drivelines, VIN, trim tags etc.) and 59 of them are big blocks which makes the big block percentage around 18 to 20 percent of this total. There are another 25 that the original engine is unknown and the rest are L48's. There are 3 L89's, 4 L78's and the rest are split between L35's and L34's.

Of course since thats less then 10 percent of the total original population the numbers could be skewed, but unless someone has better data I'm sticking with that figure as the upper limit.

Might be easier on us all as well for you to offer what you have and we can begin to tell you what you have. Do you have a PaceCar and if so, VN/Norwood?

Re: 1969 Pacecar , A few production Questions

Just to offer for you, My VN PaceCar trim tag is an 03B build ... I am sure there may have been earlier Month and Week codes for VN built cars, I just never kept a record of it over the years. Had I known then that today it would have been beneficial, I would have recorded all of that...oh well! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/rolleyes.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
