L89 Orange vert clone
That 1969 Camaro hugger orange L89 convertible clone was auctioned tonight at American Auto Auctions in Raynham Mass. Government seized, auction went to $86,900.00 I wasn't there so I don't know who bought it. A buddy of mine saw the car a few days ago and he said it looked really nice. I don't know if the bidders knew any history on the car. I wonder if it will turn up for sale soon.

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
Was it described as a clone or as a real car ?
|
Re: L89 Orange vert clone
According to my friend a few days ago, there was just a basic description, 1969 Camaro, 396, basically what you see is what you get. I don't know if that changed by tonight.

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
It was last registered in Mass. so I assume that's where it finally ended up before it was seized. I don't have any details why it was seized.

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
I have a bunch of pictures that a friend who was interested in buying this car emailed me. I would be happy to forward them on to anyone who is interested in seeing them.

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
Can you email them to me at [email protected] ?

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
I'd heard that it needed some cleanup. It had been regularly driven lately and wasn't as nice as it used to be. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
I MAY BE ABLE TO SHED SOME LIGHT ON THE CURRENT STATE OF THIS CAR.I ATTENDED THE AUCTION TO POSSIBLY PURCHASE THIS CAR, FULLY KNOWING IT WAS A CLONE. THE FORMER OWNER IS FROM CAPE COD AND IS IN PRISON SERVING A DRUG SENTENCE. US MARSHALL'S SEIZED THIS CAR WITHIN THE LAST YEAR AND STORED IT IN A WAREHOUSE.THE CAR WAS VERY DIRTY AND SOME PREVIOUS BODY WORK WAS STARTING TO SHOW. 15 OR 20 REAL BIDDERS SHOWED UP JUST FOR THIS CAR. THE GENERAL CONSCIENCES TALKING TO BIDDERS WAS "THE CAR WAS REAL".. AND "VERY RARE". NOBODY SEEMED TO KNOW ANY OF THE HISTORY ON THIS CAR, NEVER MIND PREVIOUS OWNERS / BUILDERS.. ONE OF THE REASONS I AM MAKING THIS POST IS THIS, OUT OF ALL THE PEOPLE WHO SHOWED UP FOR THIS CAR ONLY 3 PEOPLE BID, THE CAR OPENED UP AT 50K BUY THE CURRENT OWNER WHO I KNEW. HE AND I WENT TO 57K WHEN I STOPPED BIDDING, A NEW BIDDER WHO I HAVE DONE BUSINESS WITH JUMPED IN AND THE 2 BATTLED TO 86K... WOW.... THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVED MANY PHONE CALLS FROM DEALER FRIENDS THAT ATTENDED ADESA BOSTONS FRIDAY SALE, THE WORD IS THE BUYER WAS AUTHORIZED TO GO TO 105K ON BEHALF OF DESANTIS CHEVROLET. HE WAS BRAGGING THE CAR WAS ONE OF 17 OR SO AND IT SHOULD DO 250K AT BARRETT IN JANUARY. ALSO THE CAR WAS SOLD BY THE US MARSHALL'S AND HAS NO TITLE.. THANKS SM

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
I can't believe this car keeps getting passed around as a legit car. What a shame and I hope nobody gets burned on this car.

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
Thanks for the info Scott and congrats on your first post. Who is Desantis Chevrolet ? So nobody told the bidders it started out as a 327 car ? Is anybody going to tell them ? Seems to me they are better off knowing now before they start bragging about how rare it is and get caught up in another sour transaction.

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
THE GUY THAT ACTUALLY BID ON THE CAR WAS FROM "SHOE CITY AUTO SALES" IN BROCTON MASS. A SMALL USED CAR DEALER.HE REPS CARS FOR DESANTIS CHEVY. THE ONLY ANNOUNCEMENT WAS " IT IS A 69 CAMARO" . MOST BIDDERS AT THAT AUCTION NEW I WAS THERE FOR THE CAR,EVERYONE THERE WAS LOCAL. SOME WONDERED WHY I STOPPED BIDDING SO EARLY. SOME PEOPLE CAME TO ME THAT NIGHT AND INFORMED ME THAT THE HIGH BIDDER DID HIS HOMEWORK AND NEW HIS STUFF, I LAUGHED !!!! SCOTT

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
I BELIEVE SO, HE WAS SELLING DRUGS TO AFFORD THE LUXURIES OF LIFE, "FAKE CARS". HE DID FREAK OUT ON BRADY AT CARLISLE WHEN BRADY INFORMED THE GUY HE BOUGHT A CLONE. I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT HE LOOKED LIKE.

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
Hi; Let me set the record straight. I was asked By a Very well known Collector in Ga, to carefully go over the supposed 3000 mile L-89 Orange convertible that appeared at Atlantic City Auction for sale. My findings then were as Now. A very Nice Orange Low Mile Convertible. This car had paint work to the top of both fenders and hood?, paint work to the top of one quarter where an antenna was removed, A 100% original interior, except for the stick pedals( too nice). The rear was refinished? The subframe was also refinished?, The engine had a JJ stamp that one character just wasn't right!!!! Nicely over restored for a super Low Mile car. However Very Correct and dated Right there!!! The questions wher Heightened by a real Protecto-plate??????????. I called the name on it and just got ringing, the Number was Correct and the People still lived at the Pa adrress on it!!!!I spent several hours tring to get some History somewhere. Well here What Unfolded. the Miami dealers that brought this car to Nj. Bought the car in Fla at an Auction, there it Had No Protecto-Plate. It had been repped by Eddie Eldridge for the seller in fla. They had carefully removed the interior in search of Some thing to Point to the birthpoint. WOW somewhere between Fla and NJ it Grew a Protecto-Plate that was weathered for more authenticty !! Further phone calls to Steve Shauger Put everything clear https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...thumbsdown.gif This Car was constructed by A well Known restorer to be the Ultimate Clone, Infact there is a Bill of Sale that Clearly States it as a Clone outthere!! In fact The Original Protect-Plate still Exist Verifing it as a 327 /auto car.
Now on to Victor Miller, he bought the car in Atlantic City and wasn't seen untill Carlise the following Spring. There I unfortunately sold him an NOS 69 fender. At 10 o 'clock he was Drinking a Bud . He Begged and Pleaded for info on this car. I refused , Finally I he had to know, I told him what I listed above and Then put him on the Phone with Steve Shaugher and They talked for a few minutes and He stated He had been told by Others that This was a Fake Car!!!. He came back to my space the next day DRUNK Screming and threating Me and My family and All of Those who called His car a Fake. He made an Absolute Ass out of Him Self and he was asked to go away. He was not Right in the Head!!!!!thankfully Him and his group went back to the Cape. They reappeared at Gm Carlise for Round 2 where it was just as ugly as the first. There will be many chimes on that one. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif Jim |

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
This car first showed up Jan 2000 on ebay. It's bounced around ever since. POP appeared in 2002. Someplace that first ebay auction has been saved. Pretty famous car. I've had several people ask about it over the years. They then passed on the car. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/smile.gif

Re: L89 Orange vert clone
But at some point, is somebody going to get physically hurt because of this car? We keep hearing about guys "who did their homework" and think this is a real car and buy it as such. Then when they are told it's a clone, and tempers start to flare. This car can lead to a dangerous situation as it sounds like it has already. What a shame, it's a well built clone and should be represented as such.
