Re: '69 Firebird steel wheel color
Why black Don ? Shouldn't it be body color on a dog dish cap ?

Re: '69 Firebird steel wheel color
Pontiac hardly ever had painted wheels like chevys! Besides it was only offered on certain colors and carousel red cars had Black wheels. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: '69 Firebird steel wheel color
My old '69 Firebird was a 1-owner car that was light green with 14"x7" IF code wheels that were BLACK in color and fitted with dog dishes. One other interesting thing about that car was that it was a standard 350 motor with a factory Turbo 400 transmission. That didn't seem right to me, but the car was untouched so I did some research. In '69, if you ordered A/C in your 350 Firebird, they upgraded you to a Turbo 400.
(UPDATED) Well, from how I read the paint chart just posted, my Limelight Green (59) Firebird perhaps should have had Limelight Green wheels? Its certainly possible that somebody rattle canned them for the lady, but I didn't recall any evidence that they were ever green. I put Rally II's on it since I didn't think the dog dishes complemented a 350/auto/factory A/C/dark green deluxe interior car very well. |

Re: IF code 14x7 steel wheel on 69 ss camaro
I had a Yellow 69 SS 396 AC Camaro years ago that had the mag wheel hubcaps. I bought it from a elderly couple and it had sheepskin seat covers over white houndstooth. I think it had two XT's and two IF's. Now some dummy will post something right below me.

Re: IF code 14x7 steel wheel on 69 ss camaro
I recall this being discussed on the forum before, and I believe Charley Lilliard, who has owned his fare share of '69 Camaros, spoke of a "survivor" SS car he had that had a mix of XT's and IF's on it. If I'm mistaken on this, I'm sure someone will correct me. I believe that XT's and IF's are all but Identical in appearance and specifications.
UPDATED-Dammit, can't I get a single comment posted before someone chimes in and undermines or makes my post redundant? That's it, I'm going to bed.... |

Re: '69 Firebird steel wheel color
I have a IF wheel I would like to "trade only" for a early XT? It is marked = K18 11 29 IF still may be original black paint even.
Also have 3 CL wheels to trade "only" I really don't want to sell them. Sorry Pantera |
Re: '69 Firebird steel wheel color
As I commented on the other site. My T-37 was Silver ('71) and had dark green metalic wheels. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif But it was a Freemont car and who know what they were smoking then in CA. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif It also had the wrong cam and lacked cid call out on front fenders. Oh well, made it even a better sleeper. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif Only the driver is awake. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/3gears.gif

Re: '69 Firebird steel wheel color
Thats a good question. We had a 69 Trans Am that was the equivalent of an X77 Z/28 in the shop last year that had recieved a real nice restoration and the owner was a very detailed historian on his Pontiacs. This T/A had black steel wheels with Pontiac Dog-Dish caps. As for the DANA Nova we just completed it had black XT wheels on it from new. I interviewed the owner who bought it new from DANA and asked him about the wheels thinking he may have had a mag or something ordered at DANA. He insisted the wheels were black with Dog-Dish caps on black Tiger-Paw Uniroyals. Without his input, I would have just gone with the norm and painted them gold, since all the original XTs had been replaced with rallye wheels at some point. But the trunk still retained every single original component. With the XT still black and the Blackwall Uniroyal. It has been my view that Dog-Dish slated cars were body color and full wheelcover cars were black. In this case it may have been a factory mistake, but I doubt anyone buying a car like that in 69' would think that black rims would look wrong. Why would you? Look to the Mopar camp and you see the black wheel look on there budget style factory racers...BKH https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
