Muncie M20 Ink stamp
I recently pulled out of the garage an M20 muncie trans to clean the years of grease and grime that the trany accumulated. The trany has never been opened and sat in a garage for 20 years before I purchased it. I cleaned it with oven cleaner lemon sented as recomended on a previous threat. The cleaner works great. The steel tag reads 3952659 WB
the assemlby date is POD28A the vin number is 20N117375 661 case after I cleaned the trany an ink stamp WB was cleary visible on the top of the case passenger side about 1 inch high letters. I have never seen this before. was this stamp used only in this plant? or were other asembly plants using an ink stamp. suprss70 |
Re: Muncie M20 Ink stamp
Peter,
This stamp was applied by Muncie and not the car's assembly plant and is not always visable or as far as I know, on every transmission. I have a WO stamp but not the WB though they are easily reproduced for about $8. What color was the WB. All the WO's I have seen were yellow. Rick |
Re: Muncie M20 Ink stamp
Rick
The stamp is blue just like the colour of ink. The stamp in ink is the same letters as the steel tag attached to the side cover. This is the first time I have ever seen one Interesting. Peter |
Re: Muncie M20 Ink stamp
Any chance of getting pictures of the orignal stamps? High resolution straight on close ups would heaven.
Could you tell I am a detail guy.... thanks, Greg |

Re: Muncie M20 Ink stamp
The pics are on the way, can anyone help in finding what the complete vin number would be for this car? It would be nice to see if this car is still alive

Re: Muncie M20 Ink stamp
So you know that it is a Firebird right?
Norwood Ohio Rick! |
Re: Muncie M20 Ink stamp
Peter
I am guessing its a Firebird, but don't quote me. To narrow it down, find out what models in the Pontiac 1970 line started numbering at 100001 at the Norwood Plant. |
Re: Muncie M20 Ink stamp
They only built F bodies in Norwood!
