Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
If the guy has the original window sticker that documnents the car... boy that thing is going to get outrageous in the bidding.

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
I can't say it is not authentic. However, here are some things to think about.
1. He should post a copy of the window sticker. 2. Most ex drag cars are in much better condition. I would expect a car that was trailered from the dealership to get better care. 3. His father in law bought it new. Has it changed hands multiple times since? 4. Does father in law still have P.O.P? 5. Special paint would be the correct code for a late 68 if it was ordered black. 6. I didn't see a date code on the heads. 7. Should a 68 have the positraction decal on the deck lid, like a 69? I am sure some of the other guys here will think of many other questions to ask. Lynn |
Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
If anyone here picks it up, Ill take the extra set of RS Tail-light assemblies he has pictured with the standard ones. Also do I see the rear shocks right NOT staggered and 67 style instead??

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
This looks like a cut up drag car with a Dana 60, some parts, and possibly no documentation. I would be very careful since a 68 is next to impossible to verify without a P-O-P or Window Sticker and / or Owner History. You can check the dates on the block, heads, trans, etc to get some idea if the parts are original. I don't believe I have seen a documented L89 for sale as these are most likely privately traded among serious collectors. There are however, quite a few clones on the market.

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
I ASKED THE SELLER WHAT HAPPEN TO THE ORIG MOTOR AND REAR END HERE IS WHAT HE SAID
My wife believes the original engine was stolen. I think my father -in- law may have sold the rear-end many years ago. Definitely before 1984. - Tim. D |

Regarding the father-in-law and having the P.O.P., he says he's selling it for the estate..... might need an Ouija board to ask him about it (<---- no disrespect intended, just a weak attempt at humor). |

https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gifWhy are you guys picking on this car. It may very well be real.He says he has the original window sticker! Maybe he just dont know how to sell the car. I will bet it is something special. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
For sure...if it was a drag car it wouldn't be a surprise to see the 12 bolt gone either....someone should look at the car if they are unterested....

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
Special paint usually goes with special cars.

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
How in the world can an 1,121 "original mile" car fall into such a state of dis-repair https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...s/confused.gif

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
Don:
I am not trying to pick on the car. I simply noted the questions that I thought should be answered before laying down some serious cash. I also pointed out that a late car painted black would have - - for the paint code. Don't think it is out of line to ask about documents. I realize it is easy to sit here and pick a car apart. I have said it before, I don't know that I would want my car to be under the collective microscope!!!! I also stated that the car may be legit, one would just need to investigate further. If the car is the real deal, the seller won't mind further investigation. Lynn |
Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
thats not to bad, I know of a car with less miles and it all but reusted to the ground and it also was a race car.

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
Drag cars are not usually know for a being in all that good of shape. I mean the car may look rough but their doesn't appear to be major rust issues... for a car in the rust belt!

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
1121 X 4= 4484 quarter miles!

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
That's a lot, but back to the pits and to the staging lanes... probably still about 2000-3000 passes down the strip.

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
just me but there a few ways to look at a deal like this...
you can bet there are at least a dozen big dogs from this site plus others across the nation that are on the car and probably have had people there to view the car all ready and are trying to close a deal if its believed to be real..if the seller is a honorable guy and does not feel comfortable closing the auction early even for the right price it will go big dollars in the end.... so why bug the poor guy trying to help out his mother in law...honestly can you imagine the emails he's getting..his head is spinning and there probably sitting around the kitchen table talking about what to do with the car and all the people attempting to throw money at them...leave them alone unless you have a serious interest in stepping up on the car and pulling the trigger..if its real you sure as heck are not going to get it for 20K or who know whats..but it wont be pocket change thats for sure, all the people making offers will make sure of that... peanut gallery out. Bud. |

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
That's not an original window sticker.
|
Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
I would want to see a photo of the original window sticker.
not a PDF document that can be altered easier than a photo. |

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
No order number in the upper right hand of the document, no axle ratio.
|
Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
Sorry, looks like it has a zone and dealer number. Anyone have a book of ECL codes?
|
Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
It doesn't look like an original window sticker. But that could be the pdf formatting that moved things around. Where's the axle ratio? Where's the Z27 for the SS option? Where's the zip code for the dealer address? Where is the dealer # and zone? Would there be a credit for the radio delete since no radio is mentioned? It's hard to look at something like this and think it's real documentation. I try not to be negative but that picture alone doesn't cut it.

Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
since when did they use bar codes back then? I have not seen one on a car that old.

-------Bought my 69 435 Vette from Ed Stinn, new in October 69. Funny thinking that this Camaro in its present condition is probably worth as much as the 435 Vette in restored condition...........Bill S

Would there be a credit for the radio delete since no radio is mentioned? [/ QUOTE ] Unlike cars of today, radios were not standard equipment in 1968, so there was no such thing as "radio delete". If the car had been ordered with a radio, it would be listed on the window sticker as an option. |
Re: 1968 Camaro with Alum Heads - Check this out
Guys I apologize this JPG got screwed up either when I copied it or scanned it. The bottom should show the total price and the Chevrolet Disclaimer. The barcode looking crap is supposed to be those items. I will fix it in the morning. Unless someone wants the PDF now and can display it. Sorry bout that. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/frown.gif

Is the dealer and zone # on the original? It still has some odd option descriptions like the posi rear with no gear ratio. And shouldn't there be a Z27 option for the SS? |
