1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Below is assy manual page for 1970 Camaro. I am seeking the two clips supporting PVC Hose, Original PVC Hose, Original Smog Hoses and ANY other Smog related parts that you might know of someone having. Mr Hoedel supplies reproduction hoses and doesnt have the clips.
RARE Metal Clips along with PVC hose are shown. I have also pointed out the left side Metal Tube "Tree" configuration which differs from the as-built I am also looking for the two ORIGINAL Hoses coming from the 992 Check Valves to the 297 Divertor Valve..... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...tails/Air1.jpg |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
They used the same diagram in the 1970 Chevelle Assembly manual for the L78 Chevelle. That "Smog Tree" configuration was offered in two designs for the Solid lifter Chevelle.Early versions (Dec./Jan.) received the "Hockey stick" design, with later(Jan./Feb.) getting the design where the valve was connected in the lower middle of the Valve cover, which appears to be wthe design your diagram shows.
I hope you can find those Dual Snorkle PCV Rare clips, and share a picture with us. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Mr 70, So should I assume that ALL the L-78 Camaros built from January 1970 forward would have had the left hand pipe shown above. Another 70 Camaro assy page L78/A9 shows the "Hockey Stick" pipe, which contradicts the above.
I do not know of anyone having an ORIGINAL (born with) Smog System on there 70 Camaro L-78 to reference too. It seems that everyone having restored a 70 L-78 Camaro A.I.R. system has used the repop Hockey Stick tree or possibly survivor Chevelle or Nova hockey stick trees....... Thanks, Chuck |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
With only 600 1970 L78 Camaros made,it's a hard question to answer.
I would "think" the majority of the 1970 L78 Camaros received the LATER design tube, not the 1969 Early 1970 L78/LS6 Hockey stick design. Both of these Configurations have been reproduced. What is the revision date on those L78/A9 pages in your Ass. Manual?? |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
GOOD LUCK Chuck,
It took me years to get (1) set of those clips for our dual snorkel LS-6 Chevelle. Would like another set myself. If I hear of any clips coming, I will let you know. The "MOF" |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
I dont expect anyone to loan me (anything) a CLIP, but I'd like to try and find a vendor to repop that and the(also very rare) TCS wire clip used on 70+ Z-28 ignition wire(right rear lower valve cover bolt)support brkt.....

Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Hey Chuck post a pic of the TCS clip...
|
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Not sure, but the assembly manual drawing of the driver side smog pipe tree looks like my 69 big block with A/C tree, which I got from Bill Hodel, for my 69 Camaro

Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
This CLIP is extremely RARE, along with other SMOG parts that were tossed. Anybody have a good idea as to WHAT company could repop these.....

Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Chuck
Can you tell me the Part# that the assembly manual or anyother source states that this RARE TCS clip is? That looks VERY similar to a clip used on another chevy application. |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Chuck:
We'll make 'em for you. Not something we normally do, but we can make most anything. I need a sample of each or excellent photos and dimensions. Would want to do a handful or so of each. Let me know and I can ballpark a price. Dave |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
You Deuce guys notice one of the few differences between the CTB/CTC engine's installed in the Z versus the Yenko in that pic?
|
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Spark plug heat shields.
|
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Nope, it's a left side vs. right side thing, and it negates that clip on the Deuce!
|
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
The temp sender is on the other head in the front.
|
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Bingo! Different wire harness' necessitated the temp unit to be installed in the other head where there were no wire holders, and no clippie!
Chuck and I were discussing this difference at SCR7. |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
If I had a Deuce..I would know that. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ins/tongue.gif
|
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Actually, if the deuce had the Yenko installed Dixco gauge option, the gauge sending unit would be in the passenger side head. This was either to leave the TCS system intact, or because it was easier to run the gauge probe over to the passenger side - I'd vote the later, as I don't believe that the guys installing the gauges knew that the factory gm temp probe also incorporated the TCS system.
Say the word, we'll find you a deuce! |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
mrrec, Can you send me your private Email or, I will try to contact you. I am very pleased(and curious about) your company can make spring clips.
Jack Seymour owns TWO 70 Z's both having the TCS clip. I will ask him about (and link this thread to him) "loaning" OR taking HIGH resolution close up pics of TCS clip. Borrowing or getting good pics of the L-78 Air Cleaner clip might be more difficult..... I'll have to re-read a thread at www.nastyz28.com and see if TCS clip part # was found..... Chuck S |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
The below pics are of: 1)1970 Camaro L-78 Air Cleaner & 70 Chevelle LS-6 non cowl induction Air Cleaner. I still dont have it nailed down on 1970 L-78 Nova application dating??
2)The VERY rare PCV Hose Clip 3)Eric Reifsnyders 1970 L-78 Camaro (ORIGINAL Powertrain) which will be on display at Camaros at Carlisle June 24-26th 2005 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...c/Cleaner1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...c/Cleaner3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Misc/Clip1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Misc/Clip2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Misc/Clip3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...sc/EngLeft.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...Reifsnyder.jpg (Chuck I removed one huge pic file) |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Chuck do you have a better picture of the Part#
Thanks for your Time and Effort on another L78 issue that needed to be cleared up. Mark |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Chuck thanks for sharing these pictures.
I too would like to see both of those clips reproduced. Erics Camaro looks outstanding.Very authentic & I notice a 1969 Upper Alt. Bkt. was used. |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Good eye on the alt bracket......Of the ?? unknown number of 1970 Camaro L-78's still around, there is only one I know that is concours restored. Joey Gray from North Carolina will have his Hugger Orange version at Carlisle for LEGENDS judging and all of us to oogle over......
Eric's above car was a race car, that he did a body on resto. He acquired the needed removed parts from several sources. I better let him give any more detail, as I do not have the FACTS..... Almost every other L-78 that I know of (maybe 12-15) is either in need of restoration, been painted wrong color, missing original powertrain, air cleaner, wheels, etc etc. There is the LOW milage Citrus Green 70 L-78 Camaro that Don Stowers reassembled, quite a while back.....I've lost track of it, but it had quite the story.... Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Chuck...why no insulation under the hood ???

Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
WOW….
Two 70/L78 Camaro’s in the same place at the same time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif When’s the last time that happened? Mark |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Bob-- that is because the L-78 does not have a Custom Interior. I quote from NastyZ28.com....
"1970 Z87 Custom Interior - Includes deluxe seat (in cloth or vinyl) and sidewall trim; glove compartment light and additional instrument cluster lighting; wood grained accents on instrument cluster, steering wheel and door trim panels; luggage compartment mat plus special engine compartment, hood and interior insulation." |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
Great...now I have to tear the insulation off mine !!!

If you find a person who can make these pcv hose clips Gm part # 3972132 I would like to purchase a couple myself. I have a 1970 Nova assembly manual that shows the date these clips began use 1-25-70 on the L78. In the NA9 section it shows Novas using a single clip for a SBC on the front of the air cleaner with the same part #. I could not find these clips or anyone who made them so I used (2) repro 69 style pcv holders that attach to front right side carb stud with a vise and careful bending and dremmel grinding made some nice alternative ones that work fine and look correct until someone comes out with them. My manual shows the Hockey stick style smog tubes also.

Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
mbxlesney, Your the 2nd person who suggested modifying the carb stud PCV Hose clip to me. I would like to contact Ground Up with my accumulated info, to see if clip mfg can make Air Cleaner Hose clip NEW.
I mentioned a January date in Nova assy manual. I've wanted to learn if pre-January 70 L-78 Nova's had open element A/C and then in January converted to the closed element Dual Snorkel.... CAN YOU please scan and show that Nova assy page OR send to me and I can host pic??? Thanks, Chuck Sharin |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
This clip can be reproduced from the origional by putting
it on a shadow graph. This will give yu the exact measurements to one thousand of an inch, lenth width, thickness radiouses just like a blue print. then any die shop can make the die. However unless you have the potential sales to pay for the tooling then no one will reproduce it. suprss70 |
Re: 1970 L-78 / LS-6 part(s) WANTED & Comments
<font color="blue">"Ground-Up"</font> is no longer on Long Island. They moved to Connecticut.
Myself and my friends have made numerous purchases from him in the past. The owner, Ken Santoro, is a gentleman. http://www.ss396.com/ <font color="blue"> </font> |
