COPO AQUISITION

1 Attachment(s)
Well The Deal is done and the Car now resides next to my Shelby COBRA. For Now anyway!! a Great Car that has not been on the circuit for a long time. Even being a FORD Guy I really appreciate this awesome car. It was with a great sense of Pride that I summoned my 2 biggest Chevy Nut Neighbors over to check it out. She has the Solid red tail lights. rare Space saver spare mounted on a Rally Rim, and GREEN Interior! This is the COPO that was featured in "The 1969 Camaro Reference Guide" A-Z By John R. Hooper in 1991. The previous owner would not let that or the custom license plate, "69COPO" go with the car as his copy was signed by the author to him. so if anybody out there wants to part with their copy, let me know. It is a pristine example showing just 23,500 miles on the odometer. Even Ed Cuneen was shocke dto learn that I was able to get this car. As was another local Camaro nut who kept asking me, "How did you convince him!!??!!" Word to the wise. always follow up on these "I'll Never Sell it" Cars. Eventually they do get Sold. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/scholar.gif The last guy had this Car for 20 Years. I am not sure how long it will last in the FORD Garage, But it is by Far the Coolset Damn Chevy I will EVER own!! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif Here is a Link to some Pictures.

White wouldn't be my first choice but the more I look at this car the more I like it in white. The endura sure helps too. Sa-weet! Oh, and those pitted old headers are very cool.

Re: COPO AQUISITION

Were was the car located? I had a friend look at a car for me, it was located in Upper Darby, PA. It was the same colors, the owner of the car work at a auto repair center on Marshall and Bermont road. I passed on the car because it did not have any documentation or certification and the rear and trans were incorrect and the block had no #'s according to his inspection. The POP in the glove box was from an Impala. Can't be the same car could it??? Where was the car located? Do you have any documentation or certification.?

Re: COPO AQUISITION

This is why you should look at cars yourself. Your Friend gave you Bad information, if he was even able to see the car at all. the numbers are stamped into the rough cast on the Block. This Car is THE CAR in the 1969 CAMARO REFERENCE GUIDE by John R. Hooper as the example of a COPO CAMARO. They spent Hours pouring over the car confirming Part numbers and Date codes. The former Owner is no Fool and neither am I. the car has been to numerous Chevy shows and won many awards. please refrain from discussing my car in a negative light as you have never seen it.

Re: COPO AQUISITION

I believe Paceme was asking a valid question.
Just because the car shown in Hoopers book is suppose to be your car that he used as an example of a COPO, I would hope that it was never used as a buying factor. There are dozens of cars in books suppposedly representing different models that are in fact copies or fakes.

I believe Paceme's question was valid, when you purchased this COPO did it come with the certification or supporting documentation from Ed Cuneen or from anyone else for that matter?

Hi Dave, By no means do I think anybody was questioning your integerity, or validity of your car. This is just a discussion board and you are a new person to the board. Chill man! You have a great car. We would love to see more. Need to make a few more posts before you can attack us! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/wink.gif https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif

I mean no offense to anyone, but, what happened with the cowl tag on this car? It is obviously replaced with incorrect rivets (it has been off the car if original).
I love the car due to it's odd color combo https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...iggthumpup.gif.

I am not big on apologies, But if anyone felt offended, It was me. Personally, The Guy should have PM'd me before he went shooting second hand information about my car to anyone. I did PM him after my reply as well. Peace to everyone on the Board.

Re: COPO AQUISITION

Cool Car,
What is the history? Which dealer sold it and was it raced professionally? I see the axle tubes are welded, which is a clue of prior drag stip use.

Re: COPO AQUISITION

I was told that it was purchased at REEDMAN Chevrolet in Langhorne Pa. By Geo Coley. John spoke to him back when he first got the car. THe original owner said he was driving down the road in his 1968 396 SS Chevelle and looked at the Dealership and noticed this Camaro sitting out front with "427" painted across the windshield. Not believing his eyes, He pulled a U-Turn and drove into the Dealership. 2 hours later, the Chevelle was on the Used Car Lot and he Drove out in the COPO Camaro. Performance Modifications to the car include the Following: Traction Bars, Driveshaft safety loop, Hooker Super Comp Headers, Electric Fuel Pump hence the toggle switch on the Dash, MSD box. I am attempting to contact Mr. Coley and would like to interview him myself. Not that I doubt John at all, just that at this point in time it would be awesome to hear the stories first hand! My 69 Mach1 was a 1 owner car and I had a 1 owner 67 GT350. watching these guys light up as they retell their past to someone that actually wants to hear the stories is very rewarding. John had the Car repainted the original color and got involved with the International Camaro Club around 1987 where he attended many shows. in 1989 he received a Bronze Spinner Award at Chevy Vettefest (The award Certificate is in the Photos) for the car. In the early 90's He Built a Killer 1926 Model T Street Rod with a Blown 350 Air Conditioning, Cruise control, the car is way Cool. He loves The Street Rod scene and that is his passion now. after almost 20 years of owning the COPO, and many people asking if he "Still Had it", I was fortunate to be the guy who was there when he was ready to let it move on. These Cars are still out there. persistence pays off sometimes. Just Last year, an Original 1967 427 SHELBY COBRA was discovered almost by accident. a Replica owner was friends with a guy who when he saw the Replica COBRA, made mention that his older neighbor had the same kind of car in his Garage. It turns out that he is the original Owner of the Car and it has not been driven since 1970! Total time capsule car. It is Not for sale and the owner did finally register his Car with the Shelby Club that he did not know even existed! Of Course it created much excitement in the COBRA and SHELBY community as it was almost a Daydream come true. I am turning 42 this month. I grew up in and around Car dealerships in the 60's and 70's where my Father ran Body Shops and Service departments. That is where my Passion grew from, but when I see these Cars It brings me back to a Magical time in my life and as long as that feeling comes, I am going to keep tinkering with Cars!! I appreciate all the Help and advice and answers to Dumb questions I have asked. Of all the Forums I have been on and around, You guys have a Great thing going. It does not come fast or easy. everyone registered is what makes these things work. we are working on a Shelby Forum started by Carroll Shelby's Grandson, www.shelbyforums.com stop by and check it out. being New on a Discussion Board is never easy, espescially when you come along with a Car that has not been shown in Public for ten years. "Paceone" got in touch with me and we are all good. Ironically he was visiting his Mother not 2 miles from my House yesterday!!!! He is welcome to come by next time he comes down. as I learn more about the Car, I will post. I have taken it to My friends Detail shop to give it a good cleaning top to bottom and then I will take some Real Nice Photos. Hopefully the snow will be melted as it gives no Contrast to a White Car!! Have a Great Week!!

What are you going to do with it 12bolt ? Going to do any work on it ? What does it need ?

Re: COPO AQUISITION

I am really just getting it cleaned as you can see it has Garage dust and spider webs from sitting. whoever Buys it can decide to leave it as is, or remove the performance stuff and go all original. If I kept it, I would not change a thing!

[/ QUOTE ] Well Rick, You can remove My Car from your list of Potential "DOZENS of FAKES or COPIES". The Car was officially Certified By the COPO Connection on April 13th, 2005. you will also note it is the Only COPO from REEDMAN Chevrolet that has been Certified as yet. While doing My investigation on this car I have uncovered knowledge that there were 3 other COPO Camaro's at REEDMAN. My White 4 speed Car. A Yellow 4 speed Car with Front and Rear Spoilers. (The Owner Died of Injuries sustained in 1974 when He totaled the Car) a Green Radio Delete 4 speed Car, and a Blue Automatic Car that was purchased by a Black Man from Morrisville New Jersey. the Cars were sold within Days of their arrival. Due Diligence combined with Good Fortune has proven to be a Positive experience in this Case. I have compiled a Ton of knowledge that I was unaware of upon my initial Posting of this Car. I am just wrapping up my investigation as I have a complete Owner History as well. The Car was never Registered more that 50 Miles From REEDMAN Chevrolet from Day 1, including Right Now! I am the 5th Owner. This was a Very Special Car long Before it was put in HOOPER's Book in 1991. when the rest of that information is compiled, I will write a Nice Story with a Happy Ending. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/beers.gif
