1972 Z/28 or SS

Looking for leads on a 72 Z/28 or SS Camaro. Must be an RS. Not a total resto but something that needs a little work preferred. No eBay.

Re: 1972 Z/28 or SS

Darren-- while that car does appear to be a correct looking car, you have the same issue with that Red Yenko posted here too. The paint. The car is not supposed to have stripes as a Super Sport-- only the Z28s got striping. The wheels are wrong and there is missing trim on the back of the hood.

If you do not mind answering, why a 1972 Camaro verses other second generation cars? Just curious.

Darren,

What's the word on the 72 SS/RS? Did you call on it? Even though it is not completely correct, I would be more concerned if it was #'s matching. Not a bad price though.

Not numbers matching. Apparently new motor and trans. Supposed to be sending me more pics. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...lins/dunno.gif

Are you saying it should have hood trim because of the RS option, or the SS option?

I think a 72 is a good choice because it may be the rarest 2nd GEN.

Of course I may be BIASED! https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/cool.gif

BARNFIND-- your right! Nice homework! In 1972 the Z-21 style trim group was removed from the RS Package. I stand corrected (like always https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/grin.gif)

Darren-- Replied to your PM's

Mosport Take a look here. We have been tracking these striped SS cars for a while. While the jury may still be out on this topic- I am less skeptical these days.

I have been kinda living "off the grid" for the last 6 months or so (no address, no phone number, no internet) every thing I own is in three storage buildings and a garage...including my scanner. The only time I get to check this site is at work. I am hoping be back to a normal life in May, I will post some pictures as soon as I can. By the way, my 72 SS had stripes when I bought it in 1978 although I did not think they were original.

That sounds like the Classic Copper Z28 that has been popping up around the Flemington NJ, Lehigh PA and now NY area. Sounds like a cool car.

Re: 1972 Z/28 or SS - Found!

Well here it is. It ain't pretty but it goes.

1972 RS-Z/28 original colors Mulsanne Blue stripe delete ("DX3") with blue standard vinyl. Appears to be all original body panels but pretty much all are rusted. Underneath from the nose to the gas tank looks pretty solid. Car was treated to a Maacco paint job in 1980 Seafoam Teal yuck. You can see the original paint underneath on almost every panel. The person I bought it from owned it for 23 years and he got it minus the motor. At the time his father had a 69 L68 tripower Vette. The Vette got totaled so they put the motor and trans in the Z/28. Unfortunately the car doesn't have the tripower now but after doing some tuning the car goes like hell. I'm gonna need new tires by summers end. Plan now is to make it a Day 2 car.

This photo is mostly how it looks now, however, it is time to take it back apart and do the body and engine one last time. Somewhere in all the boxes the movers dropped in my garage is a bunch of the original parts I took off.

I can't end this post without giving credit to the Camaro that gave me the fever. This car is still owned by the same man since the early 70's. He worked with my Dad and every week my dad would tell me a story about the car...I would still love to buy this very car.
