Well, some lucky buyer got himself a full documented 1967 Corvette 427/435 horse car out at the Barrett-Jackson auction for the bargain price of $163,000.00

Well, it seems the car might have been, shall we say, slightly altered since the last time it was for sale just over a year ago ???

weird, that car has the same VIN

Oh well, at least his friends can make a "PRICELESS" ad out of him being hosed live on Cable TV.........

-------I dont know anybody that I talked to at B-J that didnt know that this car had a serious identity problem. When this car and the black/red 425 66 roadster both brought so much we all looked at each other in total dis-belief. There were other cars that deserved a tall bid so much more but for whatever reason didnt have the eyeball. I dont know how the car was presented by the owner verbally, but the catalog description is just begging the new owner to take it back to B-J and get a check back plus compensation. They have done it before and will probably do it again sometime in the future. Maybe thats how Craig amasses his "collection", LOL!............Bill S

Not that I condone this,but in B/J defense,they did &amp; do state to all Sellers,Buyers &amp; Spectators before the auction,that all they can do is Verify the VIN# presented on a Vehicle does indeed corolate to that Vehicle.
If there is a dispute,it is between the Buyer &amp; Seller.

Well, at the beginning of their on air broadcast they said that BJ stands behind the cars they represent at auction. Let's see if they really do.

Did the car have a tank sticker ? Yes. Was it #'s match 435 engine ? Yes... It might all be restamped made up crap but if done correctly it would pass muster at a NCRS event. Legally I'm not even sure the seller is doing anything wrong. Did the seller claim it came that way when new ? Probably not. As long as he is not swapping vin tags the rest is a very gray area. Now a car dealer might legally be held to a higher ethical standard but I won't hold my breath. Barrett-Jackson is bringing buyers and sellers together. They can't tear down each car and check all their histories. If it gets to the point of nothing but bogus cars at the auction they might have to look for a plan B but for now it is still a great place to be.

Rick, I don't have a tape of the auction coverage, but I definitely remember the announcers saying that BJ stood behind the cars at the auction. I remember because it stunned me to hear that. I think I even posted it that first night of the auction. I know they can't possibly go over every car that goes through the auction, especially if the cars don't arrive until the day before the auction starts. But I don't know why they said that. They were bragging about every car was going to sell because all the cars had no reserve and what you get at BJ is quality automobiles that BJ stands behind. If a buyer bought a bogus car, he would have some retribution against the seller I would imagine. The question becomes will BJ help mediate or if it went to court, would BJ lose their commission if the sale is null and void?

thats interesting, i thought i heard them state that they did not verify authenticity but would rack the car and inspect for any mechanical problems but they were not there to verify vin # and the such that was the potential buyers responsibility and i guess the potential buyer could look at the under car components to check for originality while racked but the inspectors did not check for things such as that. i don't know but thats the way i understood it????

Yes, I remember that part when they showed the service offered to put the car on the rack. But I'm referring to the beginning of the broadcast on Thursday night. It might have been the announcer getting his facts mixed up, that's all. I don't have a VCR so I didn't tape it. No big deal, but if anyone did tape the whole thing they might find what I thought I heard them say.

THey have a service where you can hire them to do a inspection of the car but if it was done correctly even then they would not catch it because they are not looking into the history of the car, just looking at the car in front of them.
