1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

i just tracked down a very rare 70 challenger that has been in storage since 1977!!!! the 440 is gone but the dana 60 is still there and there is a hemi 4 spd. in the trunk!!! the car is a 440-6 pak (v code in vin)4 spd, dana, r/t, rallye gauges 8000 tach and 160 speedo, the car was originally lemon twist w/black int, the body is in awesome shape!!! it has a t/a hood on it right now, also most of the interior is in really nice shape also from being out of the sun for so long. it is a early car, a close friend of mine who has been looking for a challenger for a very long time will be buying the car in the next few days, it is really neat to see that there is some finds still out there!!!i will try to get some pics of the car next week. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...mlins/flag.gif

You should check the data plate to see if it is a real T/A hood car.

I'd hardly call a Six Pack Challenger very rare, however. They made about 1500 of them.

A good car found in Florida is rare.

If it is a factory T/A hood car, the build sheet and fender tag would have an N94 on it. If it's an early build car, its doubtful. The few that do were all May, June built cars... Sounds like a great car, love that color... Patrick

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

How about a 70 RT/SE Challenger Convertible 440 6pk, 4 speed? My friend had one up until about a year and a half ago, and now a friend of his brother in law has it under restoration (not that it was really in need of one). Bought it from a guy in the Navy back in 81 or so that being transfered, for $1500. Original matching numbers on everything on it, one repaint the original color in 82. Had just about evry option available except the shaker hood, it had power windows, power top, center console, rim blow horn, AM/FM 8 track, ralley pack dash, tinted glass, etc. Beleive it also has A/C but it's been a while since I've seen it.

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

There were 99 RT verts with the 440 six pack made I dont have the trans breakdown.Plus I dont have the RT/SE verts in a 440 six pack brokendown. The RT/SE cars are rarer than a RT cars so I would have to say its below 50.Heres what I have in the hardtop:RT/SE 440 six pack 4speed-135 RT/SE 440 six pack auto-161.

There never was an R/T SE ragtop. They never built 'em.

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

What differentiates an RT/SE from a base model RT?

442w30 02-05-2005 09:23 PM

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

It's a trim option for the interior and exterior, the most notable being leather interior surfaces and a smaller rear window. However, the SE was its own bodystyle, so there could not be ragtop. Some people with leather Challenger ragtops sometimes think they have an SE, but they don't. Likewise, there was an option package (A63?) that consisted of much of the SE trim and was available on the R/T hardtops and ragtops.

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

After reading your response to Mark I checked on the SE model and your right it was'nt available on the SE.I just leard something today.Mark the SE stands for SPECIAL ADITION.

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

The Challenger R/T-SE had a "formal roof" with a fiberglass plug that contained a smaller rear window. It also came with a leather interior and ceiling console. It had it's own VIN sequence that differentiated it from the regular Challengers: JS23 was an R/T hardtop, JS27 was an R/T convertible and JS29 was an R/T-SE hardtop. 442W30 is correct, there was never an R/T-SE convertible built. You could order an R/T convertible with the leather interior, but that did not make it an R/T-SE.

If you want to know about R/T-SE Chargers, I can tell you a whole bunch more about them https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/imag...ns/naughty.gif

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

Well then I guess it is just an RT then.

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

It still sounds like a nice restoration project (though you couldn't get a/c with a six-pack, it was available only on the four barrel engine) If you have the first 5 digits of the VIN I can give you a definitive answer. -NJSteve

Re: 1970 440-6pak w/dana r/t challenger found!!!!!

It's been a few years since I've seen it, and longer since i've looked under the hood. It is a 440 six though, we decoded it at the time he bought it 3 of us had AAR's at the time and knew the basics of Chryslers VIN info. The six pack and the air cleaner sat in his basement for years, because the carbs needed work and he didn't want to bother with them. It think the manifold carbs and air cleaner were in the trunk when he bought it as it had an edelbrock manifold and a holley 4bbl when I first saw it, which wasn't long after he picked it up.

It may not have had A/C although it had just about everything else, two option plate tags worth of them on the inner fender, even had a luggage rack on the trunk lid, although I don't know if that was factory or a later add-on. It was (is) red with a white top, and black interior, white RT stripes. He didn't like the white stripes or the luggage rack so neither went back on after it was repainted. I'll have to see if I've got any old photos of it.

That tag belongs to a plain-Jane, green, 318-powered 1970 Challenger hardtop. I hope it doesn't match your car's VIN.

I owned a pair '70 of RT/SE's. A plum crazy Challenger and a green Charger. Still have the blue & yellow California vanity plate that says 70 RT SE

I hope I am not hijacking your thread, my intent is only to show a cool car that is driven almost daily around here. 70 440 6 pac cuda. 4 speed pistol grip car, he said that he has the original 440 w/ 6 pac at home in the garage. It has a spun main bearing. Currently there is a 383 w/ 4 bbl. He says that it is an original plum crazy car as well. Enjoy!

This one was just recovered from the mudd and tall elephant grass with only the intake and carbs missing. Had the persons only known that under the valve covers were a pair of Alum Hemi Heads that Dick Landy and crew were brought back to Hawaii to install, those too would have most likely been removed. Rest of drivetrain to the org rims/tires in the magazine article were still with the car. Hood was on the ground next to the car. Car is slowly being taken apart for restoration. Hope to get some as is pics posted soon
